Senator Ron Johnson Warns Against a Return of Mask and Vaccine Mandates

This is not 2020. We have over three years of data showing that mask mandates did not “slow the spread”

I recently reported that progressives and the reporters who love them were already clutching their pearls over a new, “highly mutated” covid variant. A few colleges and Hollywood studio have already reinstated mask mandates.

Senator Ron Johnson (R-WI) is concerned over these developments, asserting that the return of mask and vaccine mandates is “alarming.”

“It’s alarming that the mandates are kicking in again,” he said. “It’s like, OK, we noticed masks didn’t work, particularly for children. We always knew they didn’t work for kids.”

Morris Brown College in Atlanta has reinstated a mask mandate, while Rutgers University in New Jersey continues to enforce both a vaccine mandate and a mask mandate nearly four years after the first COVID-19 case emerged in China.

“Masks might have some marginal impact. We can’t deny that fact,” Johnson said. “N-95 masks can have some marginal benefits — but not to deny people freedom.”

Johnson was always highly suspicious of the federal vaccine mandate and has advocated for those who have suffered an injury from the COVID-19 vaccines. He has attributed those positions to helping him win reelection last year.

The Wisconsin senator has also called on the Biden administration to admit its pandemic policies were a failure.

Early on in the pandemic, I covered why masks were doomed to failure. It is clearly time for a reminder.

[S]uch protection is recommended only after engineering controls, and individual work practices have been ruled out as effective protection. This is because anything that relies on humans 100% for success is doomed for failure.

Let’s consider some of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention rules for the proper use and care of face masks, such as donning the mask.

  • Wash your hands before putting on your mask
  • Put it over your nose and mouth and secure it under your chin
  • Try to fit it snugly against the sides of your face

The hands are one of the most efficient highways for germs into the body, but how many of us wash our hands (or even put sanitizer) when donning masks? And I can’t tell you how many times I see people with masks that are not covering the nose or chin.

Serious people recognize the mask mandates were completely useless, especially as the covid virus is now endemic. Author Ian Miller analyzed the data on mask usage and covid cases, publishing a book with all the data: Unmasked: The Global Failure of Covid Mask Mandates. It is a review of his detailed and extensive research.

This is just one of his many examples:

Mask mandates were destructive to our young.

Lockdowns and mask mandates have stunted babies’ development, a study suggests.

Youngsters born during the pandemic were less likely to have said their first words by their first birthday compared to babies born pre-Covid.

They were also less likely to be able to wave ‘bye’ or point at objects, researchers in Ireland found.

The team say face masks limited children’s ability to read facial expressions or see people’s mouths move — a crucial part of learning to speak.

Bans on visiting grandparents and relatives were also blamed for depriving them of vital socializing time.

I would also like to point out that people in Japan who became so used to wearing face masks during the pandemic are signing up for lessons to teach them how to smile again.

This is not 2020. We have over three years of data showing that mask mandates did not “slow the spread.” Like the vaccine, use of those masks should be up to the individual.

I will be taking a hard pass on mask wearing and covid vaccines. I suspect I will not be the only one.

Finally, I will note that a dozen international scientists are now claiming that the new variant is not likely to be a significant health problem . . . because of natural immunity.

A dozen scientists around the world said while it was important to monitor BA.2.86, it was unlikely to cause a devastating wave of severe disease and death given immune defenses built up worldwide from vaccination and prior infection.

“It’s still low numbers,” Maria Van Kerkhove, COVID-19 technical lead at the WHO, said in her first interview regarding BA.2.86.

That the known cases are not linked suggests it is already circulating more widely, particularly given reduced surveillance worldwide, she said.

““Masks might have some marginal impact…”
Marginal?
Lowers your blood oxygen rate.
Breathing in your own, and others, bacteria.
Breathing in your own carbon dioxide.
Hardly marginal.
Turned your impact upside down, I did.

I will dust off my protest mask. I only had the one mask, and only wore it when forced. It started out white, but is now a filthy, stained ditch water color, sagging disreputably in mute defiance of the police state. I never caught COVID, which I actually do attribute to this disgusting rag. By being repeatedly exposed to its unspeakable filth, my immune system was on high alert.

I still have the airsoft mask I got for the exact purpose of showing how retarded mask mandates are. You can literally see my mouth through the 1/8″ metal grid. So in the rare instance I need to go in somewhere and I can’t afford the time to drive to a place that’s not run by retards, that’s the one I’ll wear.

Does anyone make rubber masks of Biden or Fauci? I’d wear one and point to the signs mandating masks.

There are over 700 studies some dating back to the Spanish flu showing maks do nothing for anything smaller than 3 microns.

Lucifer Morningstar in reply to 2smartforlibs. | August 26, 2023 at 1:14 pm

And most of the deaths that occurred during the Spanish flu epidemic came about by the massive use of the new wonder drug acetylsalicylic acid. Yep. you read that right. Aspirin given in massive doses to the sick caused most of the deaths. Not the actual disease. We now know giving massive amounts of aspirin to those ill is a bad idea. There’s even a warning on the box about it. But they didn’t know back then and pushed huge amounts of the new “wonder drug” on those sick thinking it would help.

    To Too Smart,
I am against mask mandates, your reasoning is flawed.

A mask is not meant to stop the extremely small viruses themselves.
It is meant to stop respiratory droplets which are much larger

I like the part for a guy who tells nothing but baseless lies Jones is right quite a bit.

This is very good, he takes his work seriously as you can see when you look below his navel in his video on how to be the best female swimmer.

The Covid was released and all the ensuing acts were meant to do one thing: Justify “Cheat by Mail Voting” and all manner of ways to make sure that their mistake of under estimating the ability of Voters to elect a man to be President who could make a difference, was never repeated. All the elements, especially in rigging elections in states like Pennsylvania, Georgia, Wisconsin, Arizona, and Michigan.

The Big Question in 2024 since we have been made wise to how they did it in 2020, will they have enough fraudulent votes to keep pResident O’Bribem in Office for another 4 years to finish off the Country or his replacement who will be worse?

Time will tell, but 2024 will prove to be the year when we learn just how much of our Founding Fathers’ Blood and courage still runs in our veins. They stood up to the Greates Superpower of their time and so, the question is can we who are their successors stand up to the Marxist/Communist Democrat threat that is destroying our Republica and voiding our Constitutional Rights? How far will be go to stop them??

No. Just… no.

Be ungovernable is my spirit animal.

BTW, has Fauci the psychopath, Walensky, Collins, Tedros, ugly scarf lady, et al, been executed,* yet, for their crimes against humanity per the Nuremberg Codes?

*after a fair trial, of course.

“*after a fair trial, of course.”

I am reminded of a line from Hogan’s Heroes. “You will be shot, tried, and sent to the Russian front!”

    Milhouse in reply to LB1901. | August 26, 2023 at 4:52 pm

Um, the so-called “Nuremberg Codes” is NOT a law. It’s just some people’s opinion, stating that they think certain actions are wrong. It has no force of law, it certainly doesn’t define any crimes, and nobody can be tried, let alone executed, for “violating” it.

Johnson. More bland than Wonder Bread, but one of the few decent public servants around today, especially in DC. Of course he sounds extremist, because he’s honest and has principles.

Masks and vaccines? Sorry to chuckle. More power to those that need them to cope with life. What else do they have if not for the ridiculous things they fall in line for. A false sense of security.

The new call is simply an extension of this:

When the Republican side of both the Senate and Congress come out strongly against any potential policy in referring to March 2020, is when Biden (or his handlers) have made it a point to allude to bring back rulings of Federal mandates and the possibility of making the public aware of declaring another Executive Mandated Emergency action. Not based on the medical science but as a result of the political field..

It would be a shame if our only two choices next year comes down to the president who enacted vaccine & mask mandates….or the other president who enacted vaccine and max mandates.

MASK mandates…not max mandates. Where’s the edit button?

henrybowman in reply to TargaGTS. | August 26, 2023 at 2:45 pm

What MANDATES exactly, did Trump enact?
Seriously. I remember none… except possibly for federal employees, and sucks to be them anyway.

CommoChief in reply to henrybowman. | August 26, 2023 at 3:27 pm

In fairness he was absolutely enabling Fauci, Birx and their ‘two weeks to flatten the curve’ nonsense that turned into nearly two years. Then he went along with shoveling $ out the door for stimulus checks. Nor did he ever reel Fauci in once it was clear he was full of crap.

Trump was also highly critical of anywhere be it another Nation like Sweden or a State like FL which didn’t lock down or ‘opened up too early’.

Trump certainly didn’t direct the DoJ to intervene in lawsuits v States, Municipalities, Universities or employers who sought to unconstitutionally deny the civil rights of Citizens by their mask mandates, preventing religious services, funerals/weddings, ability to spend time with dying family members in Hospice and so on.

In fairness? If only we had not all lived through it. As if anyone would not have “enabled” the medical experts at the start of an unprecedented situation. As if anyone would have know that Fauci was intentionally deceptive. He was not the one to mandate to the states, and he didn’t. He acted reasonabley under the circumstances, but to hear it now, he was colluding with the liars.

It is fantasy to infer that anyone else, including those running for president, would have seen through the deception that was occurring at the time and saved us. Perhaps RFK, Jr., but even then, the lab leak pandemic had to run its course.

Lot’s of us knew that masks were not going to do didly squat on day one for a variety of reasons. Same for the totes made up ‘6ft safe distance’.

By Easter of ’20 it was clear that the ‘experts’ in public health were full of crap. A few Governors began to curtail the excesses and took massive criticism including from Trump.
Sweden never did the insanity so they certainly saw through it.

No Trump didn’t order a lock down. He did stand on stage with Fauci and Bros while they urged mask mandates, made up social distancing guidelines, urged folks not to go to Church/gather with family and urged local and State govt to lockdown. That lent his own credibility to the efforts of Fauci and Birx.

henrybowman in reply to oldschooltwentysix. | August 27, 2023 at 3:59 pm

Federal poohbahs are free to “urge” all they want, there’s no constitutional restriction against that. In fact, if they would limit themselves to that — the DEA, the CDC, the NIH, the EPA, the DOC — the USA would be heaven.

It wasn’t until Biden that the Federal government actively interfered with state practices, interstate air travel, vax passports, and the like, to force people to get vaxxed.

The point of a mask or vax mandate is not about forcing you to do anything. Here is an example of the insidiousness of those mandates:

Do you know that when you travel by airplane you have the right not to have your luggage inspected? That’s right, you could simply refuse to comply with no fear of being arrested or kicked out of the airport.

But there is a catch, a minor one: any bag that is not inspected does not get put on board an aircraft. So what freedom do you actually have?

“And I can’t tell you how many times I see people with masks that are not covering the nose or chin.”
I always wore my mask below my nose, especially in medical offices.
It was my way of expressing a fat “fuck you.”
Also, it kept my glasses from fogging up.

If your glasses fog up, the mask isn’t working. It’s leaking around the nose. Those little wire inserts aren’t up to the task of keeping a seal around a high and narrow nose.

DO. NOT. COMPLY.

Worth a repeat:

“What do you call re-imposing mask policies that have been proven ineffective or restarting lockdowns that are known to cause harm?

“You don’t call it sanity.

These terrible policies only work with your cooperation. How about refusing to participate…”

Or move to a red state where that foolishness is now against the law.

Florida governor signs sweeping laws against vaccine, mask mandates — https://www.courthousenews.com/florida-governor-signs-sweeping-laws-against-vaccine-mandates/

Masks have some redeeming features….

The flannel masks I bought in 2020 are worthless for Covid. But they worked great keeping out the cold, windy winter weather and easier than dealing with a scarf, especially when pumping gas.

The lighter masks are great during high pollen days in the spring and the fall dust seasons. Some of the lawn guys blow the leaves into a big pile and then use their mowers to mulch and vacuum them up. So, there is a brown haze for a while.

California cities refuse to enforce laws against smash and grab retail store looting and vandalism, yet have time to enforce mask mandates?

alien in reply to Tiki. | August 26, 2023 at 5:45 pm

It’s much easier for the police to arrest a lone surfer on a deserted beach for not wearing his mask, than to risk putting themselves in danger by confronting a criminal who might actually fight back.

Yawn. Another variant? Most of us here in the Free state of Florida will continue to live in freedom.

Not not happening…not after 3 years to flatten America at the hands of these Swamp Rats who have managed to convince themselves they’re special and better than the rest of us despite screwing up everything they put their grubby hands on.

Go pound sand you deranged tyrannical morons!

Newly reported deaths in Hong Kong

If the U.S. had the same rate of COVID deaths over the pandemic as Hong Kong, more than half million American lives would have been saved.

Can’t imagine why masks didn’t work in the U.S. . .

The commonly available masks are not effective in themselves at blocking transmission; they are too porous. Then there’s human nature. Even if the mask were able to block transmission they have to be worn correctly, stored correctly, changed out often, disposed of properly. Given that about 70% of US population is obese it seems farcical to suggest that US population as a whole possess the self discipline to use PPE effectively.

Finally if a mask is effective in your view at blocking transmission then you can always wear yours and be 100% safe so it should not be necessary to have a mask mandate. Doubly so if you have chosen to maintain the booster jab up to date. Though the jab doesn’t block transmission either as admitted by the manufacturers.

CommoChief: Finally if a mask is effective in your view at blocking transmission then you can always wear yours and be 100% safe so it should not be necessary to have a mask mandate.

Masks are hardly 100% effective. Nor are seat belts or condoms. However, masks can reduce the probability of infection, depending on the environment and disease prevalence. In addition, community use can reduce community spread. Consider one of the comments above that the person would purposely expose people in a medical office, including perhaps someone immune compromised sitting nearby.

See Cheng et al., Face masks effectively limit the probability of SARS-CoV-2 transmission, Science 2021.
