DeSantis: Theories of Dems Stealing 2020 Presidential Election ‘Did Not Prove to be True’

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis does not think the theories out there about Democrats stealing the 2020 presidential election are not true:

The comments went further than Mr. DeSantis typically goes when asked about Mr. Trump’s defeat. The governor has often tried to hedge, refusing to acknowledge that the election was fairly conducted. In his response on Friday, Mr. DeSantis did not mention Mr. Trump by name — saying merely that such theories were “unsubstantiated.” But the implication was clear.“All those theories that were put out did not prove to be true,” Mr. DeSantis said in response to a reporter’s question after a campaign event at a brewery in Northeast Iowa.—On Friday, Mr. DeSantis did criticize aspects of the 2020 election, including changes to voting procedures made because of the coronavirus pandemic. But he specifically dismissed one particularly far-fetched theory that Venezuela, now led by President Nicolás Maduro, hacked voting machines.“It was not an election that was conducted the way I think that we want to, but that’s different than saying Maduro stole votes or something like that,” he said. “Those theories, you know, proved to be unsubstantiated.”Mr. DeSantis also said he did not have much time to watch coverage of his chief rival’s arraignment on Thursday.“I saw a little bit,” he said. “Unfortunately, one of the things as governor that you have to do is oversee executions. So we had an execution yesterday, so I was tied up with that for most of the day.”

Florida put to death James Barnes, a man convicted of murdering a nurse in 1988.

I looked up “DeSantis 2020 president election” to see if he said anything about it. The Tampa Bay Times noted a few days after the election that DeSantis didn’t acknowledge Biden as the winner. He remained silent.

DeSantis basically remained silent since then. In 2022, he campaigned for a bunch of people who supported the idea that the Democrats stoles the 2022 election. But when asked:

When asked by reporters whether the last presidential election was rigged, DeSantis has instead highlighted changes to election laws he has supported or simply changed the topic.“I’ve been asked that a hundred different times. Anyone have a question on the topic of the day?” DeSantis said during a mid-June press conference. He then went on to criticize the Jan. 6 hearings that were being held at the time. DeSantis, however, condemned the Jan. 6 insurrection in the immediate aftermath of the riot.DeSantis has also rejected calls to do a statewide forensic audit of the 2020 results in Florida, asserting that there was no need and that the election went smoothly in a state that delivered a win for Trump.
