7-Eleven Workers Who Beat Thief in Viral Video Will Not Be Charged

7-Eleven Workers Who Beat Thief in Viral Video Will Not Be Charged

“Any Investigation going forward is to hold accountable the individual who threatened & attempted to rob them.”

Last week, two men working at a 7-11 in California went viral on social media because of a video of them stopping a thief and beating him with a long stick. It was quickly announced that the men would be investigated.

Now the district attorney on the case has said that the men will not be charged.

KCRA News reports:

Stockton 7-Eleven clerks in viral beatdown won’t be charged, DA indicates

Two Stockton 7-Eleven clerks seen on video attacking a would-be thief shouldn’t expect to be charged in connection with the viral beatdown, the San Joaquin County District Attorney indicated on Tuesday.

“The Stockton 7-11 Store Clerks are not & have never been, suspects of the San Joaquin County District Attorney’s Office,” District Attorney Ron Freitas said in a statement. “Any Investigation going forward is to hold accountable the individual who threatened & attempted to rob them.”

Video of the July 29 assault has gained national attention. In the more than five-minute clip, a man can be seen emptying shelves of cigarettes and other products from the store’s shelves before the clerks step in to stop him. The clip shows one of the clerks pinning the man down while another beats the would-be thief with what appears to be a pole.

Here’s the original video in case you missed it:

This is a win for law abiding people.

Public officials are going to find out that if the police are not allowed to do their jobs, people are going to start taking matters into their own hands.

Quite a surprising outcome, since you’re not usually allowed to defend yourself or your property in any of those communist states.

What does the mayor have to do with whether they get charged or not?

Black Mayor. So I assume he was pushing the DA for some kind of charges. Too bad for him that there’s at least one DA in California that isn’t a woke lunatic and sees this incident for what it is.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mayor_of_Stockton,_California#/media/File:KevinLincoln.jpg

The Black Republican mayor who ran on public safety in 2020 that’s also running for Congress as a Republican?

Yeah, sounds like a real progressive zealot to me.

You might be mixing him up with our last black mayor.

The Gentle Grizzly in reply to Lucifer Morningstar. | August 10, 2023 at 6:24 pm

I seriously doubt a black, er, excuse me, Black mayor gives two hoots in hell what happens to a non-Negro-type of black.

For some, any non-Negro is beneath them; they will not defend them and in fact will want to lynch them.

      Also, see CharlesO’s comment.

And you know this because you know the mayor, or you’ve got a study or data of some sort to demonstrate factually that black, er, excuse me Black people only care about “Black” people

Or based on your broad range of non-white friends that number in what, a single digit, gives you this insight? Or is it the long beard? The long beard gives you this wisdom and insight into both Black and Sikh cultures?

Oh my, so much the rest of us can learn from you.

        Idiot.

This is news that has no business being news.

A person should be able to protect himself and his property, but this country has fallen off a cliff.

No not the entire Nation, just certain parts of it where the public either passively allowed or enthusiastically approved of the erosion of public safety and common sense.

gonzotx in reply to CommoChief. | August 10, 2023 at 5:45 pm

      Pretty much the entire Nation

CommoChief in reply to gonzotx. | August 10, 2023 at 7:08 pm

Nope. Not even close, the USA is a Continental size Nation. I would wager its less than 500 Counties out of the just over 3K Counties in the USA. Encompassing the bulk of the population? Maybe, but those largely coastal population centers +Chicago, Detroit, Houston, St Louis and a few other blue enclaves isn’t close to holding sway over the majority of the land mass of the Nation.

If you live/work in one of these 500 Counties and/or are surrounded by a cluster of those 500 Counties who are just shy of anarchy then it probably does seem like everywhere. It’s on the national news and it is everywhere you go in your daily life but that’s a form of confirmation bias.

In any given year, 57% of U.S. counties have no murders. We live in one of them. When there is a murder here, it’s always one tweaker shooting another one.

Wow. Will miracles never cease? A DA that finally gets it. We’re not going to put up with these retarded black thugs any longer and we will protect ourselves from their violent acts & actions. Hopefully, this won’t be the last time a black thug gets their well deserved beatdown.

I wonder if this has anything to do with the fact that they storekeepers were Sikhs and therefore people of color themselves

The Gentle Grizzly in reply to Ironclaw. | August 10, 2023 at 6:29 pm

Some many think so, but, I doubt any Sikh would hide behind that smarmy “people of color” shield. That shield is for the “whitey be keepin’ me downnn” trash that continues to wallow rather than find a job.

And, from the looks of things, they will have to change their tune to “de non-Black be keepin’ me downnn!” whine. This is because in just my lifetime, the survivors of the German camps, the Vietnamese, the Koreans, and, soon, the Afgans made or will make a success of life and leave the ever-whining Black behind.

Dems in Cali are having quite a bit of a problem with blacks, Hispanics, Asians etc who are not all in with the progressive indoctrination of their kids. I doubt they want to add Sikhs to the list

RandomCrank in reply to Ironclaw. | August 11, 2023 at 4:54 pm

Sikhs are from Punjab, in northern India, and really aren’t “people of color.”

Next, bring the perp back to the store, put a noose around his ankles, hang him upside down from the nearest street light. Let the store sell stuff to people expressing their displeasure until they have recovered 10X their previous losses. Garbage is ok, no rocks over 2″ allowed.

“Public officials are going to find out that if the police are not allowed to do their jobs, people are going to start taking matters into their own hands.”

And ‘officials’ really won’t like how the public handles such ‘matters’ …

Obviously, what we need is more gun laws and anti-vigilante laws to discourage that kind of thing.

Y’know, this being California at all….

The people have always had police power. The police operate under a delegation of power from the community at large, which community finds it expedient to delegate such power to a specific organization generally in the name of consistency across the community. Since policing is a delegated power from the community, it is also rescindable from the police by the community.

Of course taking police power into one’s own hands is NOT (yet) the wish of the community. But if the police will not do the job, then the community shall have to seek alternate means for accomplishing it.

[emphasis mine]

“The Stockton 7-11 Store Clerks are not & have never been, suspects of the San Joaquin County District Attorney’s Office.”

It was the Stockton PD that was doing the investigating. Separate group. The DA’s office doesn’t consider them suspects, but they’re not saying what the investigating officers or their higher-ups thought.

“Any Investigation going forward is to hold accountable the individual who threatened & attempted to rob them.”

That does not mean they store workers were never under investigation. Just that from here on they won’t be.

I’m still skeptical of the belief that nobody ever considered charging the “vigilante” store workers or investigated toward that end. The District Attorney is an elected position; he knows public opinion heavily favors the workers, so if he charges them, his career is over. That’s not true for the investigating officers.

    txvet2 in reply to Archer. | August 10, 2023 at 5:07 pm

The DA is the only one who counts. Everybody else can have an opinion, he has the decision.

Agreed. And justice is absolutely better served by his decision.

I’m just saying, the language used on every story and press release about this incident — including the one linked above, in which he announced his decision — makes me think that before the DA said he’s not pressing charges against the workers, the police investigated as if they wanted him to and/or believed he would.

Then again, in retrospect, that language could fully have been the media wanting to turn “Sikh store clerks defend themselves from armed robber” into another racially-motivated bias crime.

Good, hopefully it will help more shop owners feel more confident in defending their wares against thieves.

It would t fly so well after the murder of a 75 year old disabled man in Utah by the FBI

https://www.thegatewaypundit.com/2023/08/new-details-emerge-about-75-year-old-utah/

Sikhs own not insubstantial tracts of fruit and nut orchards and fruit canning co-opts in the area. I have the feeling wealthy Sikhs were not going to let their fellows in Stockton get burned.

Street justice is back, just no longer delivered by cops.

It is clear that there is too much light on this and the politicians would take too much heat. What happened in SF after the Gold Rush there was criminals running free, corrupt police, and corrupt Judges until vigilantes started to attack. The vigilantes attacked criminals, police, and judges until Law was restored.

I believe this is the start of it. It will start on a small scale, and then go after criminals. the corrupt police, the corrupt DAs, the corrupt Judges, and then the corrupt politicians until Laws are put in place and prisons filled.

As The Whispers famously sang, And the beat goes on … 🎵

“Any Investigation going forward is to hold accountable the individual who threatened & attempted to rob them.”

Notice they didn’t say such an investigation would happen,

Let’s save time and just skip to the part where he walks.

Just a note. The fellow is cautioning the clerks is a fellow store owner who was subject to robbery and vandalism the first day he opened his clothing establishment. He was a friend, had called 911, and was entirely sympathetic. and said he would be both percipient and character witness for the clerks if necessary.

The crook needed an Icee for all his aches and pains after that… https://www.megaplextheatres.com/

These turbaned heroes were merely applying their ancient caste system by putting their attackers in casts.

RepublicanRJL | August 11, 2023 at 6:43 am

I was recently told by an employee at Home Depot in Smithfield, RI that they can be fired for stopping a thief.

I think this video proves what I’ve believed. Steal from me, suffer the consequences.

believe when the thug threatened lethal force (stating / implying he had a firearm) in the first two incidents and then flashed a lethal weapon (a knife) in the third incident he moved things into a different realm–in the third incident, the thug is very lucky to have survived and due only to the restraint of the sikhs

not a prosecutor alive that could overcome three assaults / robberies in a 24hr period by the same perp and at the same place, cameras be damned

Shopkeepers of the world unite! You have only your vagrants and shoplifters to lose.

A bit about the Sikhs, one of whom was an employee of mine about 25 years ago. Their religious customs tell them to wear a turban, which after 9/11 got many of them mistaken for Arabs. Their religious customs also tell the men to carry a kirpan, which is a curved-bladed knife.

Most Sikhs in the U.S. who wear turbans (not all of them do) will carry a very small kirpan inside their turban. But that varies, even here. A couple months ago, we took a 4,300-mile road trip between WA State and SE Wisconsin and back, and in Montana on the return I saw a Sikh in the rest room at a fuel stop.

I told him that I recognized that he’s a Sikh and not an Arab or Hindu, and that I knew the Sikhs were vegetarians like the Hindus. I complimented him on a very prominent dagger hanging from his belt. He was a truck driver, and carried that thing for the ancient reason: personal self defense.

It was a very friendly conversation. He was amazed that some guy in a cowboy hat in Montana (me) knew the difference beween Sikhs, Arabs, and Hindus. In any case, Sikhs are legendary warriors, and have served in the British military since colonial days, being allowed to wear turbans.

You really don’t want to mess with the Sikhs, as the criminal learned.

Oops, a typing mistake. I told him that I knew that the Sikhs are NOT vegetarians like the Hindus.
