Vivek Ramaswamy Fundraising Program Allows Donors to Earn 10% Commission of Donations They Raise

Republican presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy’s new fundraising program, Vivek’s Kitchen Cabinet, allows donors to earn a 10% commission of the money they bring in.

It’s not quite a pyramid scheme since it’s missing some aspects, but this is still weird:

Calling all go-getters who support Vivek’s America First 2.0 vision for the country. Get some skin in the game $$$.Join the Vivek Kitchen Cabinet Team. Our program leverages the power of peer-to-peer relationships to promote small dollar donations and bundling. Members get a cut of the donations they bring in. More support for Vivek is more money in your pocket $$$. To join, simply fill out our form and get verified by our team.

It’s a sales commission.

Vivcek said the program is a way to “democratize political fundraising.”

“As a political outsider and first-time candidate, I was stunned to discover the degree to which the political class cashes in on the electoral process. I found out that most professional political fundraisers get a cut of the money they raise — why should they monopolize political fundraising? They shouldn’t,” Ramaswamy said in a press release given to The Washington Examiner.

I guess that makes the program make a little more sense. I’m not well versed in campaign finance laws, but I still wonder how this would work on the state level more than the federal level.

Vivek offers the following:

Vivek put some important information below the form. By participating, you become an independent contractor for the Vivek campaign or its agents. Therefore, you “agree to pay any applicable federal, state, or local taxes on those funds.”

But if this works, then we might see future campaigns operate differently.
