School Board in California Approves Measure to Notify Parents if Their Child Identifies as Trans, Despite Outcry From Activists

The Chino Valley Unified School District in Chino, California just approved a new policy which requires parents to be notified if their child starts identifying as transgender or is using restrooms that don’t match their biological gender.

The measure faced opposition from progressive activists. Even California’s state superintendent of public instruction showed up to voice his opposition and was ultimately removed from the school board meeting by security.

ABC 7 in Los Angeles reports:

Chino Valley school board approves policy to notify parents if their child identifies as transgenderThe Chino Valley Unified School District board voted Thursday during a heated meeting in favor of a controversial policy that requires schools to notify parents if their child identifies as transgender.Under the policy, schools must inform parents if a student wants to use a name or pronoun different from what’s on their birth certificate or official records.Parents would also be notified if their child wants to use a different bathroom.California Superintendent of Public Instruction Tony Thurmond spoke at the contentious meeting and was escorted out by security after a brief exchange with school board president Sonja Shaw.Shaw suddenly ordered Thurmond to leave the meeting when he attempted to respond to her criticism.Thurmond said he attended to stand up for LGBTQ+ students who invited him to join them “as they spoke out against a radical new policy that threatens their safety.””I don’t mind being thrown out of a board meeting by extremists. I can take the heat – it’s part of the job,” Thurmond wrote in a series of tweets. “What I can’t accept is the mistreatment of vulnerable students whose privacy is being taken away.

The Hill has more on this:

Ahead of the vote, Sonja Shaw, parent and Chino Valley Unified Board president, said, “I feel very confident that we have a board majority that supports parental rights.”Shaw is among the board members responsible for putting forth the policy and said the bottom line remains that parents have a right to know.“We’re going to safeguard parental rights,” Shaw said. “That is a constitutional right, and we’re going to make sure that our parents at Chino Valley know they’re sending their kids here to be taught, not to be anything else.”The policy mirrors Assembly Bill 1314 introduced earlier this year but never passed. The bill called to have California school districts notify parents if their children were gender nonconforming. Critics said the bill would force children to be “outed” and would force others to maintain a level of secrecy.

The left’s efforts to push this gender agenda in schools has awakened a sleeping giant in parents across the country. It will be fascinating to see the impact this has on upcoming elections.
