School Board in California Approves Measure to Notify Parents if Their Child Identifies as Trans, Despite Outcry From Activists
“That is a constitutional right, and we’re going to make sure that our parents at Chino Valley know they’re sending their kids here to be taught, not to be anything else.”
The Chino Valley Unified School District in Chino, California just approved a new policy which requires parents to be notified if their child starts identifying as transgender or is using restrooms that don’t match their biological gender.
The measure faced opposition from progressive activists. Even California’s state superintendent of public instruction showed up to voice his opposition and was ultimately removed from the school board meeting by security.

ABC 7 in Los Angeles reports:
Chino Valley school board approves policy to notify parents if their child identifies as transgender
The Chino Valley Unified School District board voted Thursday during a heated meeting in favor of a controversial policy that requires schools to notify parents if their child identifies as transgender.
Under the policy, schools must inform parents if a student wants to use a name or pronoun different from what’s on their birth certificate or official records.
Parents would also be notified if their child wants to use a different bathroom.
California Superintendent of Public Instruction Tony Thurmond spoke at the contentious meeting and was escorted out by security after a brief exchange with school board president Sonja Shaw.
Shaw suddenly ordered Thurmond to leave the meeting when he attempted to respond to her criticism.
Thurmond said he attended to stand up for LGBTQ+ students who invited him to join them “as they spoke out against a radical new policy that threatens their safety.”
“I don’t mind being thrown out of a board meeting by extremists. I can take the heat – it’s part of the job,” Thurmond wrote in a series of tweets. “What I can’t accept is the mistreatment of vulnerable students whose privacy is being taken away.
Here’s a video report:
The Hill has more on this:
Ahead of the vote, Sonja Shaw, parent and Chino Valley Unified Board president, said, “I feel very confident that we have a board majority that supports parental rights.”
Shaw is among the board members responsible for putting forth the policy and said the bottom line remains that parents have a right to know.
“We’re going to safeguard parental rights,” Shaw said. “That is a constitutional right, and we’re going to make sure that our parents at Chino Valley know they’re sending their kids here to be taught, not to be anything else.”
The policy mirrors Assembly Bill 1314 introduced earlier this year but never passed. The bill called to have California school districts notify parents if their children were gender nonconforming. Critics said the bill would force children to be “outed” and would force others to maintain a level of secrecy.
The left’s efforts to push this gender agenda in schools has awakened a sleeping giant in parents across the country. It will be fascinating to see the impact this has on upcoming elections.

The pendulum is gaining momentum….
I’m old enough to remember when “grooming” meant children (and adults) maintaining a good mind and body, instead of appearing to be good to children while mutilating them in mind and body.
Words change meaning. I am old enough to recall “vibrator” meaning a device in the power supply of car radios and mobile transceivers.
If a boy applies mascara and lip gloss in the boys’ room, but does not identify as transgender is notification necessary?
Nah. That just means he’s been watching old music videos.
Goth is an odd subculture.
All it is to me is, “will someone please pay me some attention?” Not fawn on them, but at least acknowledge their presence, and call them by their given name when with the people who brought them into the world.
Only to the American Federation of Musicians.
It wasn’t that long ago these same libs were screaming if you let your kid take an aspirin to school.
But they were having young boys in elementary schools waiting in long lines in front of the school nurse at lunch time to have adderall shoved down their throats (and the teachers and administrators were trying to force parents to put their boys on that serious drug if the kids were a little too rambunctious in the classroom … being “boys”).
Back in the day, your parents might get a call from the teacher or counsel for acting outside norms, which gender confusion or dyphoria certainly is, and no one blinked an eye.
I’ve said it before, I’ll say it again.
It is a simple universal truth for children that if ANY adult EVER tells you ‘keep this a secret from your parents’, they should IMMEDIATELY leave and tell their parents.
“The measure faced opposition from progressive activists”. AKA Democrats.
Dem politicians and their buracracies really do want meddling parents to surrender their kids to the State.
The State is the progressive activist as witnessed by the Superintendent showing up. Can’t have the peons making their own local choices. By the way… who paid his way to the meeting?
Ca. Dem party.
A dose of sanity in California.
How about that.
I’m sure a court will overrule it. Can’t be respecting the family or taking care of kids, after all.
Get off the coast, and there is a lot of common sense in California. They are swamped at the polls by the major cities both in sheer population volume, and better organization of cheating.
This is true. Once you get east of the major metro areas, California is conservative, although the large swathes of red on the California voting maps contain smaller communities. However, they are strong enough that without the election cheats==mail-in voting, vote harvesting, homeless and illegal immigrant voting–California might still have not supported the current State Assembly and their horrifically evil ” Committee on Public Safety” that blocks every bill that protects children or fights drug dealers. All that is moral dies in that committee, whose name is reminiscent of the French Revolution.

May as well change the headline to”School Board in Commiefornia shows common sense despite outcry from retarded activists.”
It was a 4-1 vote. Now they need to identify the Board member who voted against it, and show them the door.
Maybe not.
The majority, sane as they may be, need another voice pointing out any fallibilities in their decisions. Every group needs a dissenter, a “devil’s advocate,” to make sure they dot their i’s and cross their t’s. If a board member doesn’t keep them on their toes, a court will surely break those toes.
.
This is biased reporting, retold from an abc station’s reporting.
In other words, it is unlikely that the decision to expel the activist was truly unprovoked, and it is unlikely it truly was “sudden” – as is to be expected the leftist news organization uncritically quoted here did not interview anyone in favor of the sane anti-woke policy but only woke activists.
In any case, good on the school board and the community that elected them for doing the sane thing even though they are trapped in California.
Really? Are they parents of students in the school system? Because if not they can go outside and carry signs in the parking lot.
The Relentless Proglodites think everything is their business because they know better (just ask them.)
The Relentless Proglodites *need* everything to be their business so they can feel better about themselves. They have so little else.
The Relentless Proglodites *want* complaining to count as doing something, as that’s the best they can manage.
Chino Valley is more than half Hispanic with a significant Asian population. The area is small (under 200K population) and is in the more conservative San Bernardino County. My guess is that religion plays a role here.
The Hispanic population is already being targeted by trans ideologues. Watch this new video by California Insider if you get a chance:
