Biden Administration Stresses “No Plans Underway” for Research on Blocking Sunlight for Climate “Protection”

Response to White House Office of Science and Technology Policy report show that many are concerned about the unintended consequences of geoengineering.

Early this year, I reported that Mexico cracked down on a project called “Make Sunsets,” which would have used sulfur-based compounds to counter what “experts” assert is man-caused global warming.

Congress had ordered the White House to review the core geoengineering approach of the Mexico project, the blockage of solar radiation. The report, produced by the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy, initially seemed to offer measured support for the idea of studying similar plans.

The controversial concept known as solar radiation modification is a potentially effective response to fighting climate change, but one that could have unknown side effects stemming from altering the chemical makeup of the atmosphere, some scientists say.

The White House report released late Friday indicates that the Biden administration is open to studying the possibility that altering sunlight might quickly cool the planet. But it added a degree of skepticism by noting that Congress has ordered the review, and the administration said it does not signal any new policy decisions related to a process that is sometimes referred to — or derided as — geoengineering.

The report provided all sorts of grandiose ideas on how to achieve solar radiation modification (SRM), all of which come with potentially destructive unintended consequences.

One method would be to significantly increase the amount of aerosols in the stratosphere, which would reflect the sun’s rays from the planet.

Other ideas floated included increasing cloud coverage over oceans, or reducing the amount of cirrus cloud formations, which reflect solar radiation back to the Earth.

The report noted that undertaking the mammoth task could have severe ramifications weather patterns and food supplies, which would in turn impact biodiversity, geopolitics, and health.

…While insisting that it was not definitively moving ahead with the plan, the Biden administration insisted in its report that the idea appeared promising.

It said a ‘program of research’ into the practice would ‘enable better-informed decisions about the potential risks and benefits’ of blocking the sun.

There has been a lot of graft and wealth transfer that still has yet to be tapped into. Watts Up With That contributor Francis Menton crunched the numbers and determined that the world is now wasting over $1 trillion in “renewables.”

…[T]he massive investments in wind and solar additions for electricity generation were not even sufficient to keep up with demand growth, let alone displace even a bit of existing fossil fuel generation. Even in the electricity sector, fossil fuels continued to grow. And the electricity sector is only about a quarter of primary energy consumption.

Here’s the big picture:

  • Primary energy demand . . . in 2022 increas[ed] 1.1%. . . .
  • Global electricity generation increased by 2.3% in 2022 . . . .
  • Fossil fuel consumption as a percentage of primary energy remained steady at 82%. . . .
  • Carbon dioxide emissions from energy use, industrial processes, flaring and methane (in carbon dioxide equivalent terms) continued to rise to a new high growing 0.8% in 2022 to 39.3 GtCO2e, with emissions from energy use rising 0.9% to 34.4 GtCO2. Bottom line: it’s now $1 trillion per year, plus or minus, invested in wind and solar “renewables” plus grid upgrades and energy storage needed to accommodate them. And for that vast sum of money, the percent of primary energy from fossil fuels does not budge by even a tenth of a percent. And, as world energy consumption increases, carbon emissions just continue to increase. The trillion is just completely wasted.

Just imagine how much more money might be wasted on these SRM technologies.

However, there are a few upsides to this news. I have always maintained that the biggest driver of climate was the Sun. The SRM approach aligns with that assertion.

Additionally, more people are questioning The Science and the “experts.” There was a great deal of pushback on social media on the announcement of the report, based on real science.

Now it is being reported that the Biden administration stressed, in a separate statement, there was no “comprehensive research” planned for SRM.

In a separate statement after the release, the White House said, “There are no plans underway to establish a comprehensive research program focused on solar radiation modification.”

Hopefully, no power-mad, climate-crusading, morally righteous Big Tech billionaire will decide to fund SRM privately.

Wow, Logan’s Run was a cheesy sci-fi Seventies guilty pleasure.
Perhaps the graft has bought a vast underground retreat for the wealthy, where everyone is young and happy.
Thirty is a long way off when you are 18.

Why do I believe they say they are not looking into it they are looking into it?

The religion of leftism has been battered lately by Supreme Court rulings. Abortion-Roe v Wade- has been overturned, Race-affirmative action- has been dealt a blow, now all that is remains is climate. It to is being resisted much to the frustration on the Religion’s gate keepers..

And “gun control”. Don’t forget how apoplectic the Left was when Bruen dropped last June.

Funny thing, though: A year later, all those “shoot-outs over parking spaces” and “blood in the streets” the Left predicted … haven’t happened.

It’s almost like people who are peaceable and non-violent by nature — and not because the law requires it — will still be peaceable and non-violent when the law relaxes. Or something.

“all that is remains is climate.”
    And gun “safety.”
    And forfeiture.
And “public health” exceptions to the constitution.
    And the Commerce Clause.
    And secession.
The tunnel, though illuminated at the end, is very, very long.

This entire idea is rank nonsense. A few degrees of extra warmth are not going to kill us, and if anything, could moderate extreme weather events. In no event should governments be allowed to waste money on this boondoggle with its unknowable side effects. We all saw how well the government did with the Wu-flu panicdemic, now consider how much worse it could make things with this scattered-brain idea.

A few degrees of warmth could moderate extreme weather events. Or it could make them more severe.

Or it could have no discernible net effect.

Complex weather events are just that — complex — and despite their assurances to the contrary, meteorologists and climatologists still do not fully understand them. (Oh, they might know what precursor conditions are conducive to hurricane or tornado formation, but they don’t fully know what contributes to those precursors or what subtle combination virtually guarantees bad storms.)

I’m just saying: With all the real-time monitoring of local and global conditions and centuries of historical data and analogues, they still can’t tell you with certainty what the temperature and rain chances will be tomorrow. But we’re expected to believe they can accurately predict the long-term, planet-wide climatological effects of a hypothetical geoengineering plan?

The regime claimed they weren’t going after your gas-powered vehicles, gas appliances of a host of other things until they were found out.

I swear, it reads like bad science fiction. Create a crisis to rid themselves of pesky Humans while they cower in front of the God they created.
It gets worse and worse…why do I feel like we have been here before?

This is the equivalent of Gain of Function research for the environment. What could possible go wrong?

Okay, but I’m only going to play the part of Neo if Snerdly is Morpheus.

Once again demonstrating their usual lack of self-awareness, the (arguably) illegal Biden Administration thinks people will actually believe them.

It. Ain’t. Gonna. Happen.

Ladies before gentlemen. I think we should tackle the woman-caused global warming first. We could start by muzzling all those lefty, academic viragoes to cut back on all the hot air.

Simpsons did it!

Well it does sound stupid enough for the pedophile’s retarded administration. After all, they swallowed the climate fraud hook, line and sinker.

If Potato says they’re not doing X, you can bet X is happening anyway, either overtly or covertly.

Leave it to the Biden Administration to take an episode of Futurama as actual fact.

I loved the part where Dr. Farnsworth’s adversary, Dr. Wernstrom, proposes placing a giant mirror in orbit to reflect some of the sun’s rays back into space, thus cooling the Earth. And does it. But a rogue space rock hits the mirror, which starts it tumbling, and as it turns over the concave design reflects and focuses the sun’s energy onto the Earth’s surface in a line of fiery destruction.

I feel like that sort of mishap — whether by miscalculation or simply poor design — is exactly what would happen if global governments decide to start playing God (more so than they already do, that is).

So… back to Plan A… Nuclear Winter.

They aren’t interested in our gas stoves either.

Oh, and claims that they want to take away everyone’s lawfully owned guns is just a myth.

There’s already a wide variety of crony-socialist private corporations that exist for the sole purpose of implementing plans to block the sun, and all of them get the vast majority of their funding from govt (and the rest from donations from imbecile rich liberals).

The US is actually pretty far behind the curve on this. It shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone that these rent-seekers are targeting US D’s for funding.

    Beat me to it.

I’ll have to go with being shocked, shocked to discover there was US-funded gain of function research going on in WuHan.
