Left Loves The Kochs Again, Now That They’re Reportedly Mounting Anti-Trump 2024 Effort

Left Loves The Kochs Again, Now That They’re Reportedly Mounting Anti-Trump 2024 Effort

“The political network established by the conservative industrialists Charles and David Koch has raised more than $70 million for political races as it looks to help Republicans move past Donald J. Trump”

Charles and David Koch, commonly referred to as the Koch brothers, have had an impact on American politics for years now, through their foundation and directly, although David Koch passed away in 2019.

Anyone who was paying attention during the 2012 election or the 2014 midterms undoubtedly remembers then-Senator Harry Reid’s constant demonizing of the Koch brothers over their support for Mitt Romney. They were treated like enemies of the state.

The left looked the other way when the Libertarian Kochs showed support for issues like gay marriage, and now it looks like they’re back on the good list over their opposition to Trump.

The New York Times reports:

Koch Network Raises Over $70 Million for Push to Sink Trump

The political network established by the conservative industrialists Charles and David Koch has raised more than $70 million for political races as it looks to help Republicans move past Donald J. Trump, a Federal Election Commission filing will show, according to an official with the group.

According to a preliminary draft of the filings for the group, Americans for Prosperity Action, its major donors include Art Pope, a North Carolina businessman who attended a policy retreat hosted by former Vice President Mike Pence before he joined the presidential race; Craig Duchossois, a Chicago businessman; Jim and Rob Walton, brothers and heirs to the Walmart fortune; and Ron Cameron, an Arkansas poultry magnate.

Two groups closely affiliated with Charles Koch contributed $50 million of the money. Mr. Koch is a major shareholder in Koch Industries, which contributed $25 million to Americans for Prosperity Action, the draft of the filings shows. Another $25 million was donated by Stand Together, a nonprofit he founded.

With this large sum to start, the network plans to throw its weight into the G.O.P. presidential nominating contest for the first time in its history. The network spent nearly $500 million supporting Republican candidates and conservative policies in the 2020 election cycle alone.

Even the far-left site Raw Story is reporting on this:

Koch network plots to ‘sink Trump’ with $70 million campaign

The New York Times reports that the political network founded by right-wing businessmen Charles and David Koch is plotting a $70 million campaign to “sink” former President Donald Trump ahead of the 2024 Republican Party primary.

While the Kochs have in the past signaled their willingness to spend to defeat the former president, the Times reports that the network is becoming more aggressive as polls show Trump absolutely dominating the Republican primary electorate despite the fact that he was impeached twice during his first term and has since been indicted twice on dozens of felony charges.

However, the Kochs have yet to find a potential candidate who seems capable of bringing Trump down among GOP voters.

It’s cute that the left thinks no one remembers them treating the Kochs like they were the most evil people on Earth.

Lefties are so mindless and easy.
No wonder they need so many abortions.

Trump isn’t much better with his son’s adulation of Suarez in Miami who voted against Trump in 2016 and 2020 but because of one kind phrase, he is liked by Trump’s team.

There are things worse than dying, the way some children are raised is an example of that. It is not that I see abortion as desirable, but I do understand that we all pay a terrible price for terrible parents.

I do not believe for a second that the Dems love Koch for doing this. They desperately want Trump as the opponent. IMO any credible young candidate would pick up 5-10M general election votes just by not being 80 and unable to walk and chew gum at the same time.

People never understood the Kocks are libertarians, not conservatives. They only support globalists in the first place.

Explain to me how libertarian and globalist go together from a right-leaning perspective?

I understand how they do from a left-leaning perspective but that’s not the Kochs.

[[[Explain to me how libertarian and globalist go together from a right-leaning perspective?]]]

Both Leftists and Libertarians view humans as atomized, fungible economic units to be exploited, completely deracinated and deterritorialized.

Libertarians believe in wide open borders. It’s in their platform, and always has been.

Mostly true, I grant you. Certainly true at least for the organized or what passes for ‘establishment’ libertarians and the oligarchs who fund them.

There are libertarians who are globalist in mindset like the Koch Bros. They are mostly oligarchs who favor and emphasize libertarian economic arguments that benefit their bottom line. Tax cuts, low cap gain taxes, eliminating corporate taxes and yes open borders. They want cheap labor. These guys are fine with rent seeking, corporate subsidies, govt policies that favor certain industries or businesses (as long as they qualify). They generally oppose tariffs or other limits on movement of goods across borders.

They are also agnostic at best and at worst tacitly in favor of massive welfare state that helps them keep payrolls cheap and paid benefits plans low. Employers of large # of lower wage workers like Wal-Mart benefit immensely when their employees have their paid wages/benefits supplemented by govt programs such as Obama Care, earned income tax credit, child tax credit, expanded Medicaid rolls and so on.

There are also libertarians far more nationalist in mindset who believe in traditional small govt and limitations on federal and state government interference in our daily lives beyond the explicit powers granted in the Constitution. Most of this category of libertarian votes GoP b/c the establishment libertarians and oligarchs who fund them refuse to listen to this group.

The left never loves anyone. They only love power.
If you perceive any appearance of love from the left, you may as well tattoo the words “useful idiot” on your forehead.

I couldn’t care less what the left thinks of Koch. Conservatives need to listen to him, because Trump could easily destroy the Republican Party.

henrybowman in reply to RandomCrank. | June 30, 2023 at 4:17 pm

But that’s sort of like arguing that Hercules could destroy the Augean stables, or that Alexander could destroy the Gordian Knot.

    JohnSmith100 in reply to RandomCrank. | June 30, 2023 at 7:32 pm

Where would the Republican party be without Trump? Remember how Republicans acted when it became clear that Trump was the winner, all of a sudden they lined up, with many double crossing him. Now Trump knows who the rats are. Republicans have the same problem for 24. MAGA will not put up with any shit.

“Now Trump knows who the rats are.”
I wish I could say, “no, he only knows who the old rats are, and will still be as inept at picking new and truly loyal staff the second time around.” But I can’t even say that. The man has since endorsed McCarthy. The man has since endorsed Ronna. These lapses are inexplicable and inexcusable.

Koch, only one left is a monster and has never done anything for anyone if there wasn’t something in store for him

RandomCrank in reply to gonzotx. | June 30, 2023 at 8:29 pm

I don’t care much about Koch either. What I do care about is that, if the Rs nominate Trump, I’ll be casting my third consecutive write=in vote for president. I’d prefer not to have to do that. No way will I vote for a Democrat, but Trump? No way in hell.
