Numerous Democrats Join Rep. Cori Bush in Demanding $14 Trillion Reparations

“When a Fox News Digital reporter asked where the federal money would come from for the massive proposal, Bush said they were still hashing out the details.”

The reparations panel in California is now recommending up to $1.2 million per resident, but Democrat Rep. Cori Bush of Missouri clearly thinks that’s not nearly enough.

She wants a cool $14 trillion in reparations payments. That’s more than half of the U.S. GDP.

ABC News reports:

Rep. Cori Bush says $14 trillion reparations bill will ‘eliminate the racial wealth gap’

For the first time, the extensive history of the enslavement of Africans, post-Jim Crow discrimination and other racially charged subjects has been entered into the congressional record — and repairing the lasting damage these institutions caused will have a hefty price tag, according to one Democratic lawmaker.

In 23-page legislation introduced Thursday, Rep. Cori Bush, D-Mo., called on Congress to adopt several measures aimed at righting historic wrongs, including urging the federal government to issue federal reparations to Black Americans and other reparatory justice efforts. A minimum of $14 trillion would be needed “to eliminate the racial wealth gap that currently exists between Black and White Americans,” the resolution argues.

“The United States has a moral and legal obligation to provide reparations for the enslavement of Africans and its lasting harm on the lives of millions of Black people in the United States,” H.R. 414 declares.

See the video below:

FOX News points out that this would be almost equal to seven Afghanistan wars:

Cori Bush’s $14 trillion reparations proposal would equal nearly 7 Afghanistan wars in spending

Rep. Cori Bush, D-Mo., said that if the U.S. can finance trillion-dollar wars, it can fund reparations. But Bush’s astronomical $14 trillion reparations proposal would cost nearly seven times that of the Afghanistan war.

The Missouri Democrat introduced her reparations proposal this week to compensate for what she believes are racist government policies that created a wealth gap between White and Black people.

During a press conference on Wednesday, the “Squad” member said the U.S. has “a moral and legal obligation to provide reparations for the enslavement of Africans” to atone for the harm it caused…

When a Fox News Digital reporter asked where the federal money would come from for the massive proposal, Bush said they were still hashing out the details. She added that if the country can finance costly wars, it can generate money for reparations.

“We’re still having those kinds of conversations,” Bush said. “We’re working with this administration, we’re talking with other members of Congress… but I’ll say this, if we can continue to fund these endless wars, or we can continue to put trillions of dollars into forever wars… we’re talking about things that are happening now.”

I’m reminded of this classic scene from the film ‘Coming to America’:

Somehow I suspect that Cori Bush will receive a large percentage of that money.

Well they are in the right place for it. The d/prog own slavery, anti reconstruction, Jim Crow, the KKK, heavily resistant to civil rights acts including a 70+ day filibuster, resistance to school integration across the Nation. Then there’s the d/prog union allies who weren’t exactly welcoming to black applicants. How bout it d? Y’all gonna pony up the cash or not? Plenty of d donors who push this to raise funds from. Send out a specific funding request to every registered d/prog and let’s see how far short y’all fall.

Me too! I want reparations too! My Norwegian ancestors were forced to endure a grueling sea voyage to Ellis Island, where they were prodded, questioned and otherwise humiliated by malicious government stooges, before being released to find their way to Wisconsin ON THEIR OWN, without any aid or assistance from a cruel society that laughed at their inability to speak English. They were treated miserably, and I want justice!

In Madison, WI, the statue of Col. Heg at the State Capitol was torn down, broken, and dumped in a lake by a 2020 BLM/antifa type crowd of curfew breakers while the police watched.. The police did not have instructions from either the Mayor or the Governor to intervene. Col. Heg was ironically a Norwegian immigrant who opposed slavery. He fought and died in the Civil War to end slavery. Giving money to ingrates is not a solution.

If such a gap exists, it does so based on decisions/choices made. Blacks have made so many terrible choices many of which are compounded when follow-on terrible choices ensue after the initial terrible choice.

I’d love to sit and talk with Thomas Sowell, Clarence Thomas, and if resurrection were possible, Frederick Douglass and Edward Ellington.

I would also like NOT to have dealt with the outright bigotry. I also encountered while in the Navy. Virtually every bit of it was from black superiors. I see superior in the way that they had a uniform with more stripes on than mine. Also, the theft of some of my expensive possessions from my barracks room, and I had witnesses who saw who did it. But the manager of the barracks, blocked, refused to call in the short patrol. When I did, I got a ration for it.

So, don’t go judging my remarks by your own experiences or alleged experiences. I’ve had plenty of my own both good and bad. I have seen plenty of good and bad. Those are the things of which I basically opinions.

I would consider negotiating a reperations agreement if after it was paid that meant the end of the racial grievances and no more affirmative action, no more special days, no more “disparate impact” claims vs any policies ( including arrests etcetera. In other words we become nothing but a color blind society. But we all know that they would immediately demand more money and that all of the racial grievances policies continue forever. So since paying reperations would accomplish nothing why bother?

The Gentle Grizzly in reply to CountMontyC. | May 21, 2023 at 12:20 pm

Mounty, I respectfully disagree. That is just giving them even more on top of what they have gotten since the start of The Great Society.

To me, a better plan is: you have 180 days left of preferences, set-asides, funds and freebies for not working (as opposed to truly can’t work), and different levels of penalties for school problems like fights and teacher battery.

After that 180 days, you are on your own. No Affirmative Action, no set-asides, no nothing. Start acting White, Asian, Most Hispanics, Most Amerinds. Sink or swim. If you still make demands and back them by loading up a shopping cart and, in the name of “reparations” walk out the door and you get taken down, that is on you. No one else. Your kid attacks a teacher, he gets tossed out of school permanently; now he’s YOUR problem. He winds up dead as a consequence of sticking up a liquor store, too bad.

      Enough already.

1) They think highly of themselves. Long ago, when I was still wearing a badge, the cheapest contract killing I had a small part in investigating cost $0.50 for the hit. Yes, it was complex.

2) If paid “reparations” does that mean that they stay here or are removed?

3) If they stay, do they still get all the welfare and preferences forever?

4) Given the nature of human beings, do they realize that somewhere the rest of society who are paying the bills will decide that “it is them or us”? If that ever happens they are not going to like the results.

No, it is not a “nice” series of questions, but reality is often not nice.

Subotai Bahadur

Scott Adams has suggested that reparations should be calculated based on what kind of life (income) POC, AAs would have, if their ancestors had been left in Africa. He was some kind of bean counter before Dilbert, so it is an interesting idea. If that were the baseline, reparations would be about $250, or something like that.

Dimsdale in reply to UJ. | May 21, 2023 at 1:48 pm

Hence the problem. How do you define what is a person with slave blood? Do half white, half blacks have to pay themselves?

And you can be sure that the majority of blacks, who have no slave blood (if you will) or a tiny bit, will feel slighted somehow, and demand full “reparations.”

Then, as you mention, why would the U.S. government have to pay for it? Only the descendants of slave owners should be liable, and in proportion to their heritage.

Then there is the payback for all the “uplifting” programs to help blacks, like Affirmative action etc.,

Factor all that out, and I think Cori Bush and her cronies would be paying us back.

The Gentle Grizzly in reply to Dimsdale. | May 21, 2023 at 3:41 pm

One doesn’t bother defining it at all. It ended 150 years ago. Telling them, “no”, and then giving them a swift kick out the door is all that is warranted.

Steven Brizel | May 21, 2023 at 12:49 pm

Let them pound rocks! Not a nickel to Marxists !!

Watch this “can” get kicked down the road, and used as a hammer to beat Republicans with.

Slavery was a good system. In a “hit the guy on the head and take his stuff” economy, it’s very inefficient because all your capital goes into defense, but at least if you defeat your enemy it’s better to enslave him than to kill him. The enemy thinks so too. That’s how it got widely practiced.

The free market and enforcement of contracts made slavery obsolete. A slave contributes more to society working in his own interest than working for a master. A western invention.

It took a while for the practice to die off, supported no longer by economic reasons but by made-up reasons (e.g. naturally subservient race), but it was doomed and ended.

It wasn’t a moral failing, in particular.

CincyJan in reply to rhhardin. | May 21, 2023 at 6:36 pm

Slavery was widely practiced because all labor was manual. Which began to take a physical toll as one approached forty or so. Also, feeding one’s family wasn’t as easy as running out to the grocery store. You had to grown your own food, hunt your own meat, fish your own fish – or belong to a group that worked in concert. At the end of a war, when enemy armies had raided or destroyed all supplies, food could be a real problem. Certainly, as society grew, these problems developed layers upon layers. But, basically, slavery once made a lot of sense in most of the world.

They could just give each and every person of African descent a large student college loan and then forgive it.

The 1861 war was not simply to end slavery but accept the blacks as part of the general population. Today they are the only group where the majority have never owned land or property and remain wards of the state. They should have been integrated into middle class neighborhoods across America. That is assuming that blacks and whites have about the same level of intelligence and access to resources. I don’t advocate 14 trillion dollars of reparations but never did like reparations for anyone including those from the Holocaust, But since we did give moneys to one group it is going to be harder not to do that another group

Lbj’s war on poverty was not a “war” at all. It entrenched poverty by creating Medicaid, food stamps and funded public housing. 23 trillion dollars later blacks remain poor and too many public officials became rich. The departments that were set up to deal with this war on poverty paid 6 figure salaries to some that included pensions and health plans with enough discretionary funds for vacations, private homes and college tuition for their kids. Maintaining poverty generated a lot of money

Do you know that a lot of them moved north immediately after the war? And do you know who moved out as they arrived? Northern blacks. Because of cultural differences, they didn’t want to be near them.

At the end of the war the North did not want them and the South was too broken to have them. It is estimated that a million starved to death. They were freed from slavery but let starve. Obviously the war of 1861 was not about slavery;. It was about the Union. That leaves the black slave issue unresolved.

I understand it. Because I was going to comment that I want mine before everyone else so it will actually be worth $1.2 million when I spend it.

GWB in reply to venril. | May 22, 2023 at 1:15 pm

What’s really interesting? The poor white folks and poor black folks are often poor for the exact same reasons. At least some portion of the inveterate poor in places like Appalachia. Sowell argues that the problematic culture of “urban blacks” is the same culture they brought with them from the plantations – the redneck culture of the Scots-Irish, which still holds in those Appalachian hills.

It’s a fairly long discourse on defining the original “redneck” culture (as opposed to the modern definition, which is primarily “country boy”) and demonstrating the similarities between that redneck culture and the sorts of culture we see nowadays – including things like “honor culture” and affecting virtue for not rising above current circumstances. Read Black Rednecks and White Liberals. It will challenge some assumptions, but explain much.

I just think it’s hilarious. The Dems who run failing blue states/ cities where the worst schools are won’t even consider school choice and voucher programs. So beholden are the Dems to teachers unions that a lousy $14k voucher is out of the question. And yet SOME black people are stupid enough to believe the same crowd will fork over millions.

But, in the context of generating electricity, what does this business of “virtual” mean? Don’t you actually need to have something to produce the juice? A Manhattan Contrarian investigation now reveals that the Virtual Power Plant is exactly what you undoubtedly already suspect it to be: another new level of Orwellian doubletalk. “Virtual Power Plant” turns out to be another term for pointless enforced sacrifice in service to the climate cult.

There it is .. the solution to reparations … virtual reparations

Pick 13% of contiguous land in the US; likely Manhattan, Connecticut etc. Exercise emininent domain over all the nice apartments and houses in Manhattan, Conecticut, New England. Pro tip: Announce ahead of time that it is going to become a homeland for oppressed blacks. Scoop the real estate up at the market price a few months after that announcement.

White liberals would love it! Their chance at huge reparations.

Give said land to blacks. Give them lots of money on top of it. Give them training and education if they want it. Give them anything they want. Make it a main condition that this is it – they get everything they want within feasibility, and then … that’s it. No coming back to whitey crackerboy.

Then make that “New Liberia” or “New Detroit” or whatever – a new country. And that’s it. Don’t ever let them back in.

Why do so many want to keep GIVING THINGS to blacks?

GIVE them a swift and hard kick in the ass. That’s what you give them.

Sounds like a good plan. it supports the right to secede… based on race, and there is no denying it that race politics is a defining fact of America.

I really believe that this Reparation idea will fail as the cost is too much for politicians to get through. If they did get it through it would end up in Lawyer land as all races will sue based on the US Constitution that says we are all equal and everyone wants their cut.

None of this should have been an issue with America- race, religion and even slavery when it came to the founding documents. Slavery around the world, including Rome was not based on race. The exception may have been ancient Egypt but Race was not understood the way it was till the 19th century when “race” was defined. Christianity does not have place for slavery and the Founding documents spoke of rights and equalities for all mankind

What pikers! Asking for only a paltry $14 trillion. Since they don’t believe it is real money, and have no idea where it could come from, why didn’t they add on more zeros? ‘$14 quadrillion!’ ‘I’ll see you and raise you $14 quintillion!’ ‘Do I hear $10^21?’ ‘Since we are talking about an ineradicable stain on the whole non-African human race, past, present and future, would $10^33 even be enough?’

Once you start discussing numbers and how to pay for it, you have conceded the argument.

Grizzly has the right idea.

The answer to reparations for slavery is: No.

Not even $.05

Just: No.

Erronius

Two thoughts:

a) If this comes to pass, the remaining free states must reject this and secede. Immediately. Let’s see a military made of whites and Hispanics fight and die so blacks can get reparations.

b) If it doesn’t come to pass, then I assume this is a setup by the ruling Communists to create massive racial unrest as a pretext for eliminating not only elections, but all opposition.

We’d be glad to pony up the $14 trillion IF — IF– they agree to sit down, shut up, and never ask for a thing, again, ever. Ha! We have already wrecked the country and spent 100 times that, just to be presented with more IDIOTS demanding stuff.

No.

Let these radicals pound rocks!

Just give $1.2 million to the family of an actual identifiable former slave.
They can split it up among themselves.

Steven Brizel | May 24, 2023 at 3:35 pm

Not a nickel should be paid to anyone-Slavery ended in 1865 -Civil rights legislation and quotas simply can’t eliminate the fact that children who grow up in a one parent family will join a gang and committ violent crimes ,fail to complete school and engage in anti social behavior .

You received your reparation with the conclusion of the Civil War, your freedom!

Let’s do reparations. But Uncle Kepha’s modest proposal would be to internationalize the problem, especially since the international community ha often taken the USA to task for the treatment blacks have received here.

First of all, Britain (including Ireland–to tears of protestation about oppression, dear Kathleen ni Houlihan), France, the Netherlands, Spain, and Portugal all need to pony up, since they were involved in the slave trade. As heir of Brandenburg, which briefly held the Gold Coast, Germany needs to contribute. Denmark (with Iceland and Norway as well) was another participant. Since much of it was under Aragon and then the Spanish Hapsburgs, Italy should also pay, as should Belgium. Given that the transatlantic slave trade kicked in while Charles/Carlo/Karl/Carolus V was still on the throne of both Spain and the Holy Roman Empire, Austria, Czechia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Hungary, and Croatia also owe.

Let’s also have Morocco, ALgeria, Tunisia, and Libya contribute, since they gave the Iberian lands the idea that Subsaharans would make good slaves. We should also ask all the African states from Mauretania down to Angola–and even Madagascar, to contribute to their diaspora brothers, since those African countries are heirs of those polities that were the initial hunters, captors, and sellers. Further, Americans of recent West African immigrant heritage and immigrants from the AAA (African Atlantic Arc) would, of course, not receive any of the reparations, and would be expected to contribute some of their tax dollars to this project.

All of our Caribbean neighbors, as heirs of the Spanish, French, British, and Dutch empires and former way stations for the slave trade should be happy to express Third World solidarity. Cuba, with its well-known commitment to social justice worldwide, ought to be especially pleased and proud to donate some of its earnings from the sugar crop, medical swindles in poor countries, and soon–thanks to Chinese capital–Gulf of Mexico Oil revenue.

This internationalization of reparations due to African-Americans will substantially lessen the tax burden on Americans (including Native American tribes, some of which were slaveholders), and probably meet the targets which the Great State of California seeks. We might even see the interesting situation in which families that can find they descend from both slaveholders and slaves (there ought to be a few such in South Carolina and Louisiana) will see their taxes returned to them.

Finally, think of the satisfaction all the nations concerned about the plight of African-Americans might enjoy at recompensing descendants of their ancestors’ perfidy. It would be a true catharsis for the entire Atlantic world.

Has anyone ever required a similar reparations scheme for Brazil?

Come to think of it, Sweden also had a brief toe in this pool, so Sweden, Denmark, and Russia should be proud to help (after all, the area around St. Petersburg and Lake Ladoga were once Swedish, as was Estonia).

Nationally, about $25 trillion (adjusted for inflation) have been spent to combat poverty since 1964 when President Lyndon B. Johnson’s War on Poverty engendered the Great Society.

Vinnie Goombah weighs in:

“Yeah, I remember this stronzo once tried to hit me up for ‘reparations.’ I repaired him alright. Won’t see him no more.”

Why isn’t such reparations unconstitutional? Essentially a Bill of Attainder. The Constitution of the United States prohibits both Congress and state legislatures from passing targeted statutes imposing punishment on specified actors without trial.

Slavery in the USA was only a small part of its extensive history practiced by practically all nations & tribes for thousands of years, including the African tribes that sold their fellow black Africans to buyers all over the world.

“While the transatlantic slave trade lasted four centuries, it was thirteen centuries without interruption that the Arabs raided sub-Saharan Africa ”, writes the Senegalese anthropologist and economist Tidiane N’Diaye, in his book “The Veiled Genocide ” , a pdf summary of which can be downl𝜊aded from the web. Most of the millions of men they deported have disappeared as a result of inhuman treatment and widespread castration of males most of whom did not survive it.

According to the Ghanan scholar John Azumah, nearly three times as many captured Africans died in harsh circumstances related to their transport to Muslim lands than were ever even enslaved by Europeans. Why don’t they demand reparations from African blacks?

Ending slavery is something only white people do. No other race tried. Reparations for slavery from American Whites today is absurd. Blacks are lucky to be here, and those calling for such reparations are IMO reprehensible.

Whites are the only people targeted for absurd reparations simply because they are recognized as the only race chump enough to even consider it.

Until they hold their own people in Africa who sold them into slavery, the ultimate in betrayal and treason, they have ZERO case. As well, the USA did not exist when slavery became an institution on this continent. Let them hold the British, Dutch, Portuguese, Spanish and other Europeans who so exploited them responsible first.

My forefathers were Native South Americans who were enslaved under the. Colonial Spanish “casta” system, so black Americans can stand in line waiting for theirs. We never received reparations and never wanted any. This is what other blacks think of American blacks: https://www.miamiherald.com/detour/article275806406.html – and that woman is correct.
