California Wants to Give Illegal Immigrants Unemployment Benefits

California Wants to Give Illegal Immigrants Unemployment Benefits

S.B. 227 would give individuals “eligible for the program” $300 per week of unemployment in 2025.

Leslie wrote about California’s financial woes and how the legislation works on unnecessary issues.

Gov. Gavin Newsom warned the migrant crisis could break California.

The Democrats have a bill that could do just that.

Despite having no money, California’s legislature wants to give illegal immigrants unemployment benefits.

S.B. 227 explains:

(e) California’s economy also suffers by excluding undocumented workers from this program. By partially replacing unemployed workers’ earnings, unemployment insurance (UI) benefits help alleviate the inherent reduction in consumption and economic activity that results when there is a drastic increase in unemployment. Economists maintain that UI benefits produce at least $1.61 of economic stimulus for every $1 of benefits paid. Indeed, one economist found that during the Great Recession, every $1 of UI benefits produced about $2 dollars of economic impact. Similarly, UI benefits help employers and the labor market by supporting workers to find the best matched positions.

(f) While the COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted the extreme consequences of undocumented workers’ exclusion from unemployment insurance, this problem has existed for decades and it will only become more urgent. Wildfires, severe weather events, economic fluctuations, seasonal changes in workforce needs—all of these factors will continue to cause unemployment. And for most low-income individuals, unemployment without a safety net is a crisis no matter when it occurs.

(g) To rectify the unjust exclusion of immigrant workers from an essential social safety net program and build a safer and more resilient economy, this bill would require the Employment Development Department to establish an Excluded Workers Program to provide weekly monetary assistance to unemployed workers who are ineligible for state or federal unemployment insurance benefits due to their immigration status.

S.B. 227 would give individuals “eligible for the program” $300 per week of unemployment in 2025.

The Democrats claim the money the illegal immigrants supposedly contribute to the state’s economy. From Fox News:

“We cannot take people’s money, take people’s taxes, take people’s labor and then deny them the very benefits and rights that they deserve and that they have earned,” Supervisor Shamann Walton said at a protest before the board met.

Payroll taxes on illegal immigrants contribute $485 million a year to the state’s Unemployment Insurance system, according to the Safety Net for All Coalition, a group of over 120 organizations across California seeking to expand welfare programs for undocumented workers. The weekly checks plus administrative expenses in the proposed legislation is estimated to cost $356 million in state funds.

“Every day, undocumented immigrants contribute to California’s economic prosperity in agriculture, construction, clothing and other industries,” said the bill’s sponsor, state Sen. María Elena Durazo. “Yet immigrants continue to be shut out from California’s economic success due to unjust exclusions from the safety net.”

How about honorary doctorates as well?

That is genius. It will stop illegal immigration in its tracks. Additionally, it will provide a valid reason why it’s not possible to pay out reparations. Illegals first, baby!

Gov. Abbott, California is calling. Crank up those buses to San Francisco. They have some departing residents that need replacement.

Why are the Dumb-o-crats proffering such a niggardly $300 per week? Surely they can find more taxpayer funds to pay to these lionized illegal aliens — “undocumented Americans,” or, “migrants,” as they’re now euphemistically referred to, by the Dumbs.

I thought you were supposed to pay into the system as part of your legal, documented job in order to get paid back when laid off.

Or did they abandon that long ago?

Your employer pays into the system. The rate they are charged depends on how long they’ve been in business, the type of work performed by employees and previous UI claims on the company.

That’s exactly how it is supposed to work. If you have no former employer to have paid into the system you have nothing on account to draw from.

Most states also have limitations on how long that benefit lasts, assuming you rated it in the first place.

Each state has different rules, Texas has put a lid on the big payouts, now it’s all determined by a very rigid system, no big payouts, no lawyers

    I know, I worked as a Workman’s Comp Medical case Manager .

I was surprised that Wisconsins still very liberal rules and huge payouts . Family member, it really was ridiculous.

The myth of illegals contributing to the tax base is as persistent as the Russian Collusion Hoax. In fact they are a huge drain, being recipients of ‘foodstamps’, AFDC, and medical care. Further, there is a huge problem with the child tax credit as unverified children can number in the dozens on the fictitious returns that are filed. Just the false UIB claims under the covid rules cost CA $30B.

Almost as much a myth as that $1.61 from $1 nonsense. I remember it being thoughly debunked when Pelosi was peddling it

Uh… California defaulted on paying back the federal unemployment insurance loan, forcing employers to shoulder the 18.5 billion dollar debt. Now they want to expand unemployment insurance to illegal aliens and force businesses to pay even high rates to support illegals?

California also gives homeless in areas like $800 a
Month, insane

Well
At least all the aliens will be in California, heard them up

I’m just laughing at the absurdity. Do they truly think the money will be spent in the state in not wired back home?
Good grief.

Americans are stupid. Democrats constantly tell you they don’t care about you Americans yet you keep voting for them to “own the Repukes” or something.

You get what you vote for and you don’t deserve any sympathy. Unemployment for illegal aliens. It’s absurd in its logic, but logically it makes sense. Illegal aliens, by definition, are unemployed.

workers comp fraud is the bigger issue for immigrants. come up- get injurred and go back and retire on the cash.

I am glad me, my wife, and my family left our home state in 96 for the east coast due to business. We still have family left in California but many have left. The one party state has gotten two stupid in all actions from local to state. Once Reagan left as Governor the states started to fail in all areas as the Dems took over,

They should be here in the first place. Give them nothing.

Shouldn’t be, stupid voice dictation

The California voters will have to be very heavily taxed to pay for this benefit.

Keep voting Dem!

Gooder and harder California. Next up, free Vaseline for residents. (Probably not, petroleum products you know). Just don’t expect us taxpayers to help out. This is state ideocy

How can nominal adults be so fucking stupid?
The “participation trophy” generation comes to Sacramento.

California must be awash in gold to give a reparations and unemployment to illegals who never worked for it.
Where can I sign up for this California tax money?

Paula in reply to Skip. | May 17, 2023 at 6:25 pm

All the gold in California is in a bank in the middle of Beverly Hills.

But Gov. Gruesome Newsom declined to support any reparations for blacks. At least that’s what the reports say. His office, of course, is now denying he ever said such a thing.

No reparations for blacks but unemployment benefits for illegals. Wonder how that’s going to go over with the black community. Not well I would imagine.
