Biden’s State Department Coddles Fragile Employees with Counseling to Cope with Being “Misgendered”

One of the (very many) troubling trends in recent years is the truly bizarre leftist demand to be kept “safe” from speech or words that might “trigger” them on some emotional level.

It started in colleges and universities, and as the fragile snowflakes moved from their bubble world in which all wrongthink was banned or shouted down to the “real” world, they brought their infantile crybullying with them.

For some reason that is still not clear to me the federal government, the media, and many corporations and large businesses bow to these troubled adults who apparently can’t make it through the day if they get their feelz hurt by some “microagression” or other invented slight.

Case in point, the State Department recently enacted some new program that automatically added pronouns to the “From” line of its emails. Obviously that was a huge waste of taxpayer money even if it had worked properly, but the thing that upset the public servants who work at State was that many (most?) of them were “misgendered.”

This ridiculous assault on the English language typically means referring to a person by his or her biological sex rather than some self-declared “gender identity”; it’s used as a cudgel to bludgeon common sense and biological reality out of the great unwashed, to force us to tell lies we know full well are lies. In this case, it is used more literally; apparently, male employees were provided “she/her” pronouns while females ones were provided “he/him.”

Cue the wailing and rending of clothes. Fainting couches were (probably) promptly stacked high with wailing adults who had the wrong gender pronoun assigned to them by some idiot DIE initiative that should never have been approved in the first place.

Not to worry, the State Department was quick to assure its overly-sensitive workforce that they would make available counseling for them to handle their deep grief, feelings of unsafety, and unbearable despair.

The Washington Free Beacon reports:

The State Department will offer counseling to any employee “who feels hurt or upset” by a system-wide email glitch that temporarily assigned random and often incorrect gender pronouns to staff. The State Department is offering free therapy to “any employee who feels hurt or upset as a result of this unfortunate mistake,” according to an internal email that went out to employees on Friday. Many State Department employees were “triggered” on Thursday, when emails from colleagues suddenly began to include random pronouns, like, “She/her/hers” and “He/Him/His” in the “from” line.. . . . Those upset by the misgendering are encouraged to contact the State Department’s Employee Consultation Service “to speak to a professional counselor.””I want to stress that the intent behind making this feature available is to make our systems more inclusive and provide employees with options—not to make decisions for them,” Kelly E. Fletcher, the State Department’s chief information officer, wrote in the email. “I recognize that this error had the opposite effect, and again, I am very sorry.”Fletcher informed staffers that the State Department is “testing a new feature that will provide users with the option to include their preferred pronouns in their Global Address List profile.””During the test,” she wrote, “the feature inadvertently went live, and a large number of employees had randomly assigned pronouns added to their profiles.”In the future, employees will have the choice to pick their preferred pronouns.”I deeply regret the confusion and distress this mistake caused our workforce,” Fletcher wrote.. . . . State Department employees expressed shock and confusion by Thursday’s pronoun incident, with one source telling the Free Beacon, “This is distracting from the work that we are actually supposed to be doing. A lot of people here have been triggered today.”

Your tax dollars at work . . . coddling and enabling perpetually-outraged perpetual adolescents.

Needless to say people had thoughts.
