Maine Mother Suing School for Allegedly Hiding Her Child’s Gender Transition

Maine Mother Suing School for Allegedly Hiding Her Child’s Gender Transition

“This was no accident: my daughter’s public school counselor deliberately tried to keep me in the dark, encouraging my daughter’s gender transition and encouraging her to hide it from me”

A woman in Maine named Amber Lavigne is suing school officials for allegedly allowing her 13-year-old daughter to gender transition without her knowledge.

If this is true, it’s easy to understand why she would be outraged.

The Goldwater Institute reports:

Maine Mom Sues School Board for Hiding Child’s ‘Gender Transition’

When Maine mom Amber Lavigne found out that her 13-year-old daughter’s public school had kept the child’s “gender transition” a secret and encouraged the middle schooler not to tell her parents, Amber demanded answers. But officials refused to engage in open dialogue, so yesterday the Goldwater Institute filed a federal lawsuit on Amber’s behalf against the Great Salt Bay Community School Board for violating her constitutionally protected parental rights.

Amber was alarmed when she came across a chest binder—an undergarment used to flatten breasts—in her daughter’s belongings this past December. She immediately began to investigate where the binder came from, but what the Newcastle mom discovered shocked her: a school social worker who Amber’s daughter began seeing in October gave the child the chest binder and had secretly been advising her about gender transitioning. Making matters worse, the social worker told Amber’s daughter the school wasn’t going to inform her parents about any of it, and that the girl didn’t need to do so either.

When Amber contacted school officials, the administrators tried justifying the counselor’s actions. In fact, school personnel had already been referring to Amber’s daughter with a different name and different pronouns, effectively “socially transitioning” her in secret.

“This was no accident: my daughter’s public school counselor deliberately tried to keep me in the dark, encouraging my daughter’s gender transition and encouraging her to hide it from me,” Amber says. “When school officials found out, they actually defended the counselor’s actions, trampling on my constitutional rights at every turn. I deserve to know what’s happening to my child—the secrecy needs to stop.”

Lavigne and her lawyer appeared on FOX News in February and claimed that the school board was flippant when confronted.

From FOX News:

On “The Ingraham Angle,” Lavigne told host Laura Ingraham the situation shows that parents are no longer the ultimate arbiters of their children’s lives.

“It’s scary, really,” she said. Lavigne’s attorney, Adam Shelton, added parental rights are legally broad and that his organization — the Goldwater Institute — demanded in writing the Great Salt Bay Community School launch a full investigation and change other policies.

“[The school must mandate parental notification] whenever the school makes a decision that directly affects the mental health or physical well-being of their children. Parents do have a 14th Amendment right to control and direct the education, upbringing and health care decisions of their children,” Shelton said.

Ingraham then played a clip of a recent school board meeting where the incident was brought up to the panel by a concerned parent.

“I’m going to ask if you stick to issues at hand and not do speculation around health and well-being at this board meeting. It’s not germane to education,” replied a man identified as School Board Chairman Samuel Belknap.

Lavigne called the meeting “pretty disgraceful,” adding that Belknap shrugged his shoulders at any attendee who brought up the incident.

Why do the schools prove how dumb they are over and over?

Absolutely crazy that any school official would keep anything noteworthy from parents. Blows my mind every time.

I can remember when schools would ask the parents permission before giving the child an asperin.

If “it’s not germane to education,” then why the hell is the school involved in that social engineering in the first place?

Can’t have it both ways, bud.

“Whoa to them who call evil good and good evil.”. The Left is Satan’s minions and a cancer on society…it is past time to excise the rot.

The subversive social worker should be in prison fro “grooming and doing harm to an innocent under her purvey”. Same for the School Administrators and any teacher who promoted this immoral garbage. As for Belknap, he and his ilk need to be shamed to the point of slinking away never to be seen again. These are seriously bad actors who have drunk their own evil Kool-Aid and have called it good.

This is a spiritual battle the likes we have not seen in our era…praying the mother prevails.

    “Woe…” (iPad “fix”)

Yet today – Good Friday – I find it striking we are up against such a leviathan/Borg-like force that assimilates everything in its path. Not a game anymore.

I sometimes seethe over the actions I see, but He is there to soothe with His promise. I pray they find truth.

And, while I understand a lawsuit (it doesn’t require gov’t cooperation), why are people not pressing charges on this stuff? At a minimum it should be “contributing to the delinquency of a minor.” But, honestly, child molestation charges should be where this stuff is brought down.

Same reason environmental groups and activists support massively environmentally destructive industrial wind and solar on public lands, or Lithium strip mining for their cherished EV’s; they’ve convinced themselves that “it is righteous therefore THOSE losses are acceptable collateral damage” despite all of it flying in the face of their ideals. (Note: no rational person wants a crappy environment.)

Theirs is delusion built on lies, this one is no different (except if you or I did the same, then we’d be in jail). Their house of cards will crumble at some point.

Dems are quick to call people fascists which, according to Google, is the forceful suppression of any opposition all overseen by an authoritarian government. This is simply one more case of projection. Here, so many Leftist activists are pointing fingers are conservatives, accusing us of being fascists, when it is themselves who are the true fascists. Until good people stand up and these miscreants start going to jail, nothing will ever change for the better.

Qualified immunity will protect the piece of crap members of the school board and school personnel.

Second problem is getting a jury that is rational. Far too many on the left believe what is biologically absurd to be good.

I hope she’s suing the counselor too.

Everyone should know about the gruesome experiment that started it all and that it failed.

A Democrat dominated school board. Child abuse like this is their purpose. They are not ‘leftists’ or anything else. They are Democrats and this is their current political avenue to power and control. People who elect these Democrats are fine with this abuse and in a New England town they may believe they are cutting edge.

Camperfixer in reply to Whitewall. | April 7, 2023 at 9:07 am

“Child abuse”…exactly correct, yet The Left doesn’t call it that when they do it, proving how evil they are.

Whitewall in reply to Camperfixer. | April 7, 2023 at 9:19 am

This is ideological warfare crossing into ideological elimination. Words matter and for the moment anyway they are like bullets. The Democrat doesn’t call it “child abuse”. ‘Proving how evil they are’….yes of course. Though these Democrats don’t believe they are evil, they are righteous to their core. We are evil for opposing their righteousness.

Camperfixer in reply to Whitewall. | April 7, 2023 at 9:29 am

Satan has their brains, and God has given them over to their depravity and delusion. There can be no middle ground, which is why Fox quick went to commercial, cutting off Jason Whitlock on Tucker when he stated “secession is the only solution.”

This is the culture war in microcosm. Crazy people try to infect someone else’s children with their craziness. When caught, they try to brass it out, as if they think it’s those other people (parents who think they have rights) who are the crazy ones.

IANAL – so please help me understand the likelihood of this suit’s success and what, if any, remedies the court could order.

Thanks.

Remember when “alienation of affection” was an actual legal doctrine? Good times.

Christian parents sin if they send their children to public schools. The children are at a critical stage, with limited time for learning and character molding. Once this period has expired, nothing can replace its loss. There is no time for reform. It is an emergency. Pull your children out of the hellfire, and place them in a religious school.

Antifundamentalist | April 7, 2023 at 10:21 am

Isn’t Gender dysphoria a medical condition? Aren’t there laws about schools providing more than immediate lifesaving care (while waiting for the ambulance) without parental notification and consent?

    There used to be.
Things might have changed a bit between this and Wuhan Flu.

Antifundamentalist in reply to GWB. | April 7, 2023 at 12:24 pm

In addition to treating a medical condition without the consent of the parent, There’s still the whole question of what medical practitioner within the school system provided the diagnosis for the student? And then – are you treating a student for a medical condition without a diagnosis?

Teachers are prosecuted for abusing children all the time. This is no different. I have no hope for Maine, but TX, TN, FL, etc. better start prosecuting this sexual abuse.

My kids participated in instrumental music throughout middle school & high school. The students could not get on a school bus without a signed parent’s permission slip.

That social worker is very lucky. With some people, there would not have been a lawsuit, they would have taking care of it in the first-person perspective. F*ck with people’s kids and you may well find yourself in a world of pain.

These people are truly playing with fire. A lot of the guys I know would just go kill any person who was involved in an episode like this with their kid. Or at minimum smash their face into a bloody, toothless mess.

But then again, what we’re dealing with here is just another form of child predator, and one thing child predators know how to do is exploit kids who don’t have a strong family support system behind them.

They’re mentally ill scumbags who shouldn’t be within 1,000 miles of any children. Hopefully the legal system can straighten this out… but mark my words sooner or later we’re going to hear about some parent who had enough and took matters into their own hands.

This will blow your minds

I always wonder, just how many of the counselors, teachers and board members have, or have had, kids of their own

My experience with counselors from the 70s and my kids counselors, I’ve never known one that wasn’t single and childless

markm in reply to murkyv. | April 10, 2023 at 8:32 am

I lived across the street from the Jr. High girls counselor (the only woman in the administrative staff, aside from secretaries), and was in school with her daughter. I never wanted to know that much about the rest of them. It was a rather small town and I would have heard if their kids were in the same school as me (Jr High or High School), but if they were a few years different in age or not in public school, I wouldn’t know.

“Perhaps this mom should run for a seat on the school board.”

I don’t know why people keep suggesting this thoroughly bad idea. She should pull her daughter out of the government school system immediately.

School boards are subject to rules and contracts, and have very little power to make changes. And the changes they are able to make can be undone by the next election. Too late, too little, and too temporary for your child. Get her out now.

oliver shank in reply to gibbie. | April 8, 2023 at 4:19 pm

No reason she shouldn’t run for school board.

You are right about pulling her out of school. That is what we did with our children. The defective personnel aren’t going to be removed, and have no reason to change what they are doing.

And you are right about the continual bad suggestion that people should try to change the system. There are a number of reasons, but your last sentence had the best one: That the child needs immediate relief.

I talked to a number of people during the course of child education, and the principle reason that they didn’t find some other alternative seemed to be fear: “I wish we could do that but….”
