Professor Demands Black Faculty Get Paid Leave to Deal With ‘Racial Battle Fatigue’

Professor Demands Black Faculty Get Paid Leave to Deal With ‘Racial Battle Fatigue’

Some may need a day off while others may just need to be able to work from home. Some may need a small extension on a deadline while others may need to have something removed from their plate completely.”

Critical Race Theorist Professor Angel Jones at Southern Illinois University demanded black faculty get paid leave whenever a black person is killed.

“In alignment with this practice, I reached out to my students when the video of the murder of Tyre Nichols was released,” Jones wrote in Times Higher Education. “As I was writing the email, my primary concern was the mental and emotional well-being of my students. However, the tears streaming down my face as I typed let me know that ignoring my own feelings was impossible – which wasn’t surprising given the numerous times I have cried while sending similar emails.”

Jones claimed she had tears in her eyes “just thinking about all those emails.”

Then Jones blasted the “copy-pasted, campus-wide emails” sent by the school’s administration because the people don’t acknowledge the black community’s pain:

Where is the acknowledgment of our pain? Where are our counselling services? Where is our grace for missed meetings and deadlines while we mourn? Yes, we have jobs to do and students to support, but we also have trauma to process.

I am a proud educator who loves what I do. But before that, I am a Black woman. A Black woman who is expected to return to “business as usual” on Monday after seeing a member of my community murdered on Friday. Although it is customary for employees to receive support and understanding while grieving the loss of a loved one, the same care is rarely shown to the Black community when we lose someone in horrific and traumatic ways. Where’s our Black bereavement leave?

How should the school tackle the problem? Black bereavement leave to deal with racial battle fatigue.

The leave includes counseling with “culturally competent counselors familiar with identifying and addressing RBF” available all the time.

But the leave also includes paid leave.

“We need space and time to grieve without having to explain or defend it,” wrote Jones. “And since the grief process, like the Black community, is not a monolith, flexibility is required. Some may need a day off while others may just need to be able to work from home. Some may need a small extension on a deadline while others may need to have something removed from their plate completely.”

I have no words.

When everyone is a victim, then no one is a victim.

“Anti-Blackness is intentional, so your efforts to combat it must also be,” concluded Jones.

“demanded black faculty get paid leave whenever a black person is killed”

They’re called Gimme Girls for a reason.

    diver64 in reply to Whitewall. | March 6, 2023 at 5:27 pm

imagine being a victim so wholly that you just can’t go on in your life. too bad the alien in chicago got thrown out of office for letting so many minorities get murdered under her watch.

Wallowing in utterly corrosive, self-perceived and fallacious notions of alleged victimhood and grievance, yesterday, today and forever.

These black Americans are as much slaves as their forebears, only, they are constrained by intellectual/ideological shackles placed on their minds by the vile Dumb-o-crats, rather than iron shackles placed on their bodies.

Whitewall in reply to guyjones. | March 6, 2023 at 9:19 am

It seems the goal is to infantilize the entire black population. That is enslavement also.

      Seems to be working.

nordic prince in reply to Whitewall. | March 6, 2023 at 1:52 pm

Indeed – they are essentially claiming that black people lack the mental/ psychological fortitude to deal with the vissicitudes of life.

      IOW, black fragility.

AF_Chief_Master_Sgt in reply to nordic prince. | March 6, 2023 at 5:21 pm

Hmmm. I love the code words you use. Fortitude, vicissitudes, fragility…

All words the Race hustlers have to look up in the white supremacy handbook.

Of course, Angel may know their meaning, but in her mind, other blacks are too stupid to understand.

Every time a black male kills another black male, everyone gets a day off. Brilliant!

    diver64 in reply to guyjones. | March 6, 2023 at 5:28 pm

Indeed. Constrained by being a victim and never being able to be free to choose their own destiny. Sad stuff indeed.

If this woman finds America so disagreeable, I have it on good authority there are daily international flights to the African continent.

Fat_Freddys_Cat | March 6, 2023 at 9:11 am

I suspect that most black Americans are puzzled by this notion. It’s something that could only come from academia.

How long before liberal whites demand it as well, on the grounds that they are “allies”?

AF_Chief_Master_Sgt | March 6, 2023 at 9:22 am

Note to self:

1. Start Racial Battle.
2. Claim everything is racial.
3. Shed tears whenever I address every petty occurrence as if it has a direct impact on me, no matter how removed it is from me.
4. Demand that my employer, government, the “community,” etc., acknowledge my self imposed fatigue from the battle I created.
5. Demand that society gives me additional money, time off, or other benefit that applies to me and my victim group, and no others.
6. Accuse those who do not accept and acknowledge my victimhood of racism and not caring about my victim class.
7. Apply the above to every action that I deem offensive, and use it to hide my failure to be able to cope with life as it is.

Hmmmm. Not gonna happen. I am a white make and cannot be afforded the same considerations as those who identify as victims – because, racism and paternalism.

    Fat_Freddys_Cat in reply to AF_Chief_Master_Sgt. | March 6, 2023 at 11:23 am

You could always declare yourself “gender fluid” or some such. Then addition to being able to carry out your plan, you would be lauded as “stunning and brave”.

…consider today the first day of the rest of your life.

2smartforlibs | March 6, 2023 at 9:41 am

I’m sure it does get tiring when you see a non-existent monster under every bed.

Well shit, keep on eye on Chicago and you’ll never work a day in your life

Alleged “professor” is obviously too delicate to be allowed out in the Real World™ without close adult supervision.

Ah…living in Southern Illinois? Not down for The Struggle by living in Chi-town? There you would just be another black person and nobody would care.

People like this mental development delayed twit test their superiors like children test their parents, and should be responded to in the same manner.

Tell me the idea of cramming a pacifier into that gob doesn’t make one smile.

If there were an actual countrywide “Black community” this would make sense. But there isn’t. And every person who dies has some sort of community, who are affected by their death; skin color doesn’t enter into it.

It would also make sense if black people were often being murdered simply for being black. When that was a common occurrence then every time it happened all black people who heard about it must have felt threatened, because it could just as easily have been them. That’s the way it is with Jews, when we hear that a Jew has been murdered simply for being a Jew. But that hardly ever happens to black people. It is much more common for black people to be murdered than it is for Jews, but in almost every case it has nothing to do with their skin color, so there’s no reason why someone with nothing but skin color in common with the victim would be affected.

I think this is the sort of nonsense 0bama meant to convey, when he said that Little Saint Trayvon “could have been his son”. That LST was part of his intimate community, no different from the hypothetical son he might have had, and that Zimmerman could just as easily have killed any black person because they’re all interchangeable.

Which of course is not at all true. Zimmerman would have acted exactly the same no matter what LST looked like; only then we would never have heard of it, just as we would never have heard of it had he chosen to go by the name Jorge Mesa, or if Al Sharpton had not jumped to the conclusion that “Zimmerman == Joo”, which is a reasonable assumption in the Boston-Washington corridor and in South Florida, but not elsewhere.

alaskabob in reply to Milhouse. | March 6, 2023 at 1:11 pm

George Washington Carver and B.T. Washington considered Jews as a good role model of a minority becoming a necessary ore respected part of the community. Exactly who is really still threatened in the US today… numbers wise? She has no idea.

Adulting is hard. Seriously WTF is wrong with woman? How about we run a pilot program for this in Chicago? Oh wait no one would ever need to show up to work due to the homicide rate.

Service members deal with casualties. They don’t get special dispensation for bereavement leave on their own say so. What a croc of crap. Grow the hell up. Go to work, pay your bills and especially the student loans you willingly signed up for. Life is full of trade offs. Go found some commune based on this BS if you think it will work. Stop putting your rocks in other folks rucksack, carry your weight and stop burdening others b/c of your narcissism.

Tyre Nichols death was tragic.

All of the indicted police officers appear to be black.

Deaths caused by police misconduct are rare.

I more pressing challenge in the number of blacks killed by blacks.

Milhouse in reply to ParkRidgeIL. | March 6, 2023 at 11:10 am

I wouldn’t call it tragic. He brought it on himself, and bears the majority of the blame. It shouldn’t have turned out the way it did, but it shouldn’t have turned out good for him either.

      ttucker99 in reply to Milhouse. | March 6, 2023 at 11:54 am

So hold up. I watched that video and he asked what he was being pulled over for and they yanked him out of the car, tased him, and started beating on him and then he ran. Exactly how did he bring it on himself? Everyone in the Memphis PD and DAs office who saw the video says they cannot even figure out why he was pulled over to start with. Plus that a few of the officers involved had gang affiliations before being made cops and should have had their applications rejected to start with. 3 of them had been disciplined the week before for anothe incident involving excessive force. Normally I would agree with you, most people who have trouble with police using excessive force bring it on themselves but I think this one was different.

        henrybowman in reply to ttucker99. | March 6, 2023 at 1:15 pm

Maybe he brought it on himself by sleeping with a cop’s wife?

        henrybowman in reply to ttucker99. | March 6, 2023 at 1:21 pm

“Plus that a few of the officers involved had gang affiliations before being made cops and should have had their applications rejected to start with.”
Ha ha ha ha! That ship sailed decades ago.
I have on file a copy of a brilliant piece of reportage headlined “Washington’s Inept Police Force.” It ran in the WSJ in 1993, and was penned by a relatively unknown journalist by the name of Tucker Carlson. It’s all about how DC screwed the pooch by requiring DC cops actually to live in DC, how the recruitment rate plummeted, and how they ended up having to hire honest-to-god felons to make up the shortfall.
I wish I could repost it somewhere on the web, but I’m sure some copyright lawyer would get aggravated.

        Milhouse in reply to ttucker99. | March 6, 2023 at 2:45 pm

He brought it on himself by fleeing the cops in the first place. They shouldn’t have had to chase him down, and when they finally caught him and he still resisted they were understandably angry. They correctly used force to subdue him — and then they incorrectly kept using it rather than stopping as soon as he stopped.

    >> more pressing challenge in the number of blacks killed by blacks. <<

Which year to year is about 90% according to the uniform crime reports.

But lets not get bogged down in the numbers because it distract from white supremacy being the bigger problem.

Excuse me while I take bereavement leave for all our veterans (all races) that have died because of a lack of care from the VA and DOD. I also need extra time off for the mental harm that the poisoned water at LeJeune caused. Why doesn’t she ask for time off when there are black on black killings in the inner cities? You know the ones that don’t make the news.

    AF_Chief_Master_Sgt in reply to scaulen. | March 6, 2023 at 11:56 am

Every time I have someone tell me “Thanks for your service,” or “We support Veterans at our company,” my response is:

If you want to thank me for my service, stop electing people who hate the military.

How about increasing access to veterans at both VA and civilian facilities, instead of increasing access to illegal scammers crossing our borders daily?

How about requiring that any hospital or medical practice that is required to accept Medicare or Medicaid has to accept Tricare (or as we know it – Try To Get Care)? After all, hospitals were forced to required employees to get the jab.

      paracelsus in reply to AF_Chief_Master_Sgt. | March 6, 2023 at 1:55 pm

Every time I hear “Thanks for your service,” I listen carefully and I hear the lisp of the guy who ran to Canada and is now back here a la Jimmy Carter or the subvocal, near audible sneer in the voice of his mommy who packed his bags and made his travel lunch.
Sorry! some of them are just the “useful idiots” who’ve learned to imitate the speech pattern of the Charlie McCarthys and. Mortimer Snurds they hear on TV, the ones who made it their business to educate others on how to avoid the draft..
I heard JFK say, “Ask not what your country can do for you but what you can do for your country?” and I volunteered for the Armed Services. I’m neither proud nor unhappy with my choice and don’t go around parading my medals with my mouth; I just did what I felt had to be done and want neither praise no condemnation for my actions.

        AF_Chief_Master_Sgt in reply to paracelsus. | March 6, 2023 at 5:30 pm

        Greetings to you fellow peacekeeper.

I too do not seek praise or condemnation for my service. But I also refuse to hide it.

Many times, people know because we veterans conduct ourselves a bit differently than our civilian counterparts. Not better, not worse, but different.

I am the 5th generation of my family to join the Armed Forces, and my daughter is the 6th. We serve because we believe in the protection of the Constitution, even when those in office use it as toilet paper.

        Be well.

When someone thanking me for my service might have meant something, we were being protested by draft dodging hippies. Now it just seems like a pro forma thing that people say when they find out you’re ex-military. It doesn’t mean anything at all.

So, she is asking for an employment benefit for people of one race only. How is that not a Title VII violation?

Milhouse in reply to chaswjd. | March 6, 2023 at 11:13 am

It wouldn’t be if her premise, that black people are uniquely affected by the deaths of all other black people, were true. This would then simply be a specific application of the same benefit that is generally available when someone is bereaved. White faculty who lose someone that close to them do get special consideration, and that’s all she’s asking for for black faculty. The flaw is not in the remedy but in the premise, that all black people are that close to each other.

healthguyfsu in reply to Milhouse. | March 6, 2023 at 1:40 pm

White people have the same benefit as black people. Immediate family bereavement leave is very common.

Milhouse in reply to healthguyfsu. | March 6, 2023 at 2:50 pm

Yes, and they also get consideration and reasonable accommodation when non-immediate family die, and it significantly affects them. All she’s saying is that all black people are close enough to each other to be affected like that, some more and some less but all to some extent. And if that were true, her proposed solution would be right and it would be lawful. But of course it isn’t, so it isn’t.

E Howard Hunt | March 6, 2023 at 11:10 am

Paying them to stay home should improve test scores.

Milhouse in reply to E Howard Hunt. | March 6, 2023 at 11:14 am

On the contrary. Remember, we’re talking about faculty, not students. I would expect that having someone else grade their classes would result in worse test scores.

I’m betting Scott Adams and I are in agreement on this one…

The Gentle Grizzly | March 6, 2023 at 11:34 am

Her kind offer vindication to what Scott Adams said in his “racist screed”.

All those words she used to say what amounts to “Grovel you b’tards, GROVEL!”

So, . . . just curious if the paid leave applies only where a black person is killed by a white person, or if it also includes when a black person kills a black person.

If the latter, then is the black killer entitled to paid leave for killing a black person? Should the black killer be released without bail during their paid leave? Will their paid leave be extended if they kill another black person during their first paid leave? Should travel expenses be included in their paid leave?

Social justice is SSOOOO complicated! We should just leave it to the social justice professors, like Angel Jones.

    AF_Chief_Master_Sgt in reply to Q. | March 6, 2023 at 12:05 pm

My, how far we have come. What today is considered the norm was not considered so normal in the early 80s. What she is asking for is more days off whenever someone who is black is killed.

Doug Tract “Greasman” basically stated the same thing on DC101 when he made a comment when MLK Day was created. “If they killed four more, we could get a whole week off.”

While I don’t subscribe to the sentiment when I heard it, what the good professor is asking for is the same thing – getting days off when blacks are killed.

When will she be excoriated in the same manner as Greaseman?

      henrybowman in reply to AF_Chief_Master_Sgt. | March 6, 2023 at 1:32 pm

Grease managed to talk himself off three distinct stations before hanging it up.
“Tracht tried to fix it. He apologized. And apologized…”
But, as we all know now, you never, never apologize to the perennially offended. Because all it does it dig a deeper hole.
“Black Entertainment Television asked viewers what the Greaseman could do to prove he is sorry. Nearly three-quarters of respondents said “nothing.”
      Habba-doo-geeeeeeeeee…

        AF_Chief_Master_Sgt in reply to henrybowman. | March 6, 2023 at 5:37 pm

Watchers of BET never listened to DC101 generally, and Greaseman specifically. Only the perennially offended did so they could find something, anything, that could be used against him. Most of them wind up with Habba-do-goo on their faces.

Of course, as you said, he did continue to cause self inflicted trouble with the comment about Lauryn Hill’s Grammy nomination as it relates to her performance.

Rupert Smedley Hepplewhite | March 6, 2023 at 11:55 am

It’s a shame black people aren’t as strong as whites. Those poor little delicate beings.

Put on your big girl panties and go to work, just like everybody else who experiences hardships in life.

Can I get paid every time a Jew is murdered by terrorists and the perpetrator is *celebrated* by the community? I know of nobody who celebrated the deaths of Tyre Nichols or George Floyd. Even those who might believe their deaths were justified use of force by the police would have preferred that they not die. The same isn’t true of the murder of innocent Jews in Israel and the US — many people celebrate their deaths.

LukeHandCool | March 6, 2023 at 12:39 pm

There are many Asians and whites (especially Jews) who should get paid leave to deal with black violent crime fatigue.

Racial battle fatigue is all from the Critical Race Marxism, it’s you’re own doing, live with it or quit pushing it.

Angela Jones earned a Ph.D. in Education from George Washington University with a focus on inequality in Higher Education.

Who knew there is a ton of money to make peddling CRT and reparations?

CRT Professor…so stop the tape right there. Anything after will be some variation of give me something for nothing.

I’d suggest that their employers might just as well give them 365 days annual unpaid leave. It’s not as if they’d be missed.

She is claiming that black people are inferior to whites and other races. Why would they need time off work when a ghetto gangster thug dies?

If this causes maximum inconvenience to those who hired and enabled this mindset, then all is right in the world.

Before Gibsons there was:

How abut flags at half mast every time a police officer is a fatality?

I could use a day off from being bombarded by non-stop adulation, adoration, and worship of black people by corporate media and advertising and phony self-serving politicians while my local news reports an average of three or four black on black murders almost every single day.
