LGBTQ Students Changing College Choices Based on Supposedly ‘Anti-Gay’ State Policies

“I came to reality and realized that I might actually have to involve those things into where I go, because you never know where I might be going”

This is the exact same playbook that leftists ran with on the issue of abortion last year. Also note the quote from a mom at the end of this excerpt. She is saying things conservative parents have said for years.

NBC News reports:

Students switch up college plans as states pass anti-LGBTQ laws

Cody Nobles hopes to study environmental science or marine biology at a college on a shoreline town, where he can observe ocean life firsthand.

But after his native Florida adopted legislation restricting LGBTQ rights, Nobles, who is gay, is planning to find a similar environment in a different political climate. The 19-year-old says he wouldn’t have to worry as much about discrimination or even physical assault in California.

“I came to reality and realized that I might actually have to involve those things into where I go, because you never know where I might be going,” Cody said, expressing concern about the possibility of having to attend school in “a place that has a record of hate crimes or a very old-fashioned point of view when it comes to gender.”

“For me personally, I just naturally assumed I was going to college down here,” he said. “But if things got worse, then I suppose I would have no choice.”

Florida state lawmakers have passed laws that block classroom discussion about sexual orientation or gender identity in primary schools and aim to restrict race-based conversation and analysis in business and education. Another recent bill would let the state board that oversees public universities give direction on removing majors and minors in subjects like critical race theory and gender studies and bar spending on programs or activities that support such curricula.

Cody’s mother, Cindy Nobles, who serves as president of the Jacksonville chapter of the LGBTQ advocacy group PFLAG, said Florida’s legislation has “changed how I’m looking at every school.”

“Now instead of worrying about whether it’s going to be a fit for the major he wants to go into, I have to look at the board of trustees. I have to look at the political viewpoints of the people who are in charge of the schools and figure out whether or not they’re going to be a good fit before I even worry about his major.”

Conservatives have had to do this for years. Welcome to our world.

I always like how the quality of the education seems to receive the lowest priority.

As for physical assault, they target you irregardless of your identities. But if your appearance makes you a “softer” target in their eyes, then that is on you, 10-ply.

Woods Hole. That’ll be $300. Next.

I’m not seeing the problem here. Seems like whining that not every state kowtows to the Leftist hierarchy of privilege. Since non-Leftists have been enduring this for decades it’s yet another example of the Left screaming when a hint of equality enters the system.

Not sure why Cindy’s looking at schools, but she’ll enjoy looking at the bill for out-of-state tuition. And the travel for her fragile kid to go back and forth to a blue coastline state.

Thank you Ron.
Helping these children understand that they do have choices.
I like that now conservative students may actually have them too.
The majority of higher Ed is extremely left. I hope more right leaning students do the same and move to conservative leaning schools.

The only conclusion I can draw is that this is a “minor attracted person” (formerly known as “pedophile”).

What other conclusion can I draw when the only thing Florida has done lately that could be construed as remotely “Anti LGBTQEIEIO” is to pass a law protecting young kids against grooming?

In which case, I’d think Florida would be the winner in any scenario that ends up with this guy in a different state.

They do these interviews thinking they’ll be treated as victim-heroes when in reality nobody cares. They’re like the brown noser in basic training who is first to formation and volunteers for every detail thinking the NCOs are going to recommend him for a commission.
