Oversight Committee Chairman Comer Requests to Interview Seven Southern Border Chief Patrol Agents

“The uniqueness of each sector demonstrates a need for the Committee to obtain additional information regarding other sectors on the southern border.”

House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer asked Customs and Border Protections acting Commissioner Troy Miller to make the seven chief patrol agents along the southern border available for transcribed interviews.

Two chief patrol agents testified on February 7 but could only provide details from “their respective sectors and the unique challenges they confront in those sectors.”

“The uniqueness of each sector demonstrates a need for the Committee to obtain additional information regarding other sectors on the southern border,” stated Comer. “As one witness emphasized, ‘if you’ve seen one Border Patrol sector, you have only seen one Border Patrol sector.’ One of the witnesses testified that Border Patrol agents have valuable information and experience to guide lawmakers in search of legislative solutions.”

I think people forget the U.S. has seven sectors along the southern border:

1. Aaron M. Heitke
Chief Patrol Agent – San Diego Sector

2. Gregory K. Bovino
Chief Patrol Agent – El Centro Sector

3. Patricia McGurk-Daniel
Acting Chief Patrol Agent – Yuma Sector

4. Peter Jaquez
Chief Patrol Agent – El Paso Sector

5. Sean L. McGoffin
Chief Patrol Agent – Big Bend Sector

6. Jason D. Owens
Chief Patrol Agent – Del Rio Sector

7. Carl E. Landrum
Chief Patrol Agent – Laredo Sector

“The uniqueness of each sector demonstrates a need for the Committee to obtain additional information regarding other sectors on the southern border,” continued Comer. “As one witness [John Modlin, Chief Patrol Agent, Tucson Sector] emphasized, ‘if you’ve seen one Border Patrol sector, you have only seen one Border Patrol sector.'”

Comer included a valuable portion from the testimony of Gloria Chavez, Chief Patrol Agent, Rio Grande Valley Sector:

I think that, as we continue to move forward, I always ask, whenever Congress is ready to put that team together, look at Border Patrol agents that come in and advise you because I think there’s many of them out there already with experience that know how to help out in building that path forward because I think it’s time. If not, otherwise, if we don’t have the right policies or consequences, the world is watching us, and we’re going to continue to see these large migration flows from around the world entering here at our southern border.

Republicans constantly criticize Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas since migrant crossings have increased since Biden took office.

But it’s not just migrants.

Republicans are concerned about fentanyl spilling into America. This is in the last 72 hours.

While I don’t argue that the border situation is utterly insane, I’m getting REALLY REALLY TIRED of the headlines screaming about XXXXX NUMBER OF LETHAL DOSES OF FENTANYL. They only do it for scare headlines.

I really sick of hearing about another so called nothing hearing close the MF down!

Are The Feckless R’s doing effective politics? No. Can’t be.

Admini-chief allows only two to testify, then one of them says “every sector is different.” Holy propagating news cycles, IssueMan!

Now, there’s another couple news cycles of hearing. Plus “Why won’t you let us talk to them?” Potentially, even, this sector less bad / that sector worse — what’s different? Could it be, perhaps, a wall? Hmmmmmmm? How in-con-veeeeeeeeeen-ient.

Now, I don’t wanna get my hopes up because The Feckless R’s and all, BUT if ooodles of Chinese Forever Pain Killer are pouring over the border, what else is also pouring in?

As The Iron Lady said: “First you win the argument, then you win the vote”

In a world where even VA can vote in a surprise R administration if provoked hard enough, you gotta give the persuadable middle an excuse to vote for you as the lesser evil.

In the HoR so far yes. They have committee control which allows them to set the agenda for legislation, hold hearings, conduct oversight and if required issue subpoenas. They can coordinate that with the news cycle and today social media and alt media.

There’s a younger, more media savvy, more populist orientation among GoP in the HoR. They seem to be doing what they can within the limits of their power and reasonable political strategy. Its small ball until they have GoP control in the Senate. Get them a POTUS to push them to go further and big things can get done.

“Damn you. That got my hopes up.”

So said a colleague, after I dragged him to a start-up / economic development thing locally.

Comer is a hard charging Congressman who is fighting the stonewalling on all fronts by a lawless administration
