Minnesota HS Student: ‘Principal’s Attempt to Unify Us’ Ended Up ‘Pitting Us Against Each Other Based on Characteristics We Can’t Control’

“After a year of teachers telling me I’m a racist, I have never noticed race more”

In a video from June of 2021 that is going viral, a 15 year-old student from Rosemount High School in Minnesota explains to the local school board how the embrace of Critical Race Theory in education has made things worse for students.

In his speech, he describes his first day of high school, when the principal praised multiple racial identities to the student body while neglecting half of the audience that looked like him, noting that in doing so, the principal was pitting students against each other for things they can’t control.

He talks about a teacher who praised socialism in the classroom and the culture of fear people live in at the school because they are unable to speak their minds.

Real Clear Politics provides a partial transcript:

BRAD TAYLOR: I just finished my freshman year… I’m going to give you a glimpse of what is actually going on in our schools. Despite the board’s attempt to deny it, district 196’s schools are quickly becoming a place where promoting activism is actually more important than promoting education. I’ll take you back to my first day, this fall. The principal came out and gave us a heartfelt speech about equality and standing together. He began to list countless races, such as Latinos, Asian, expressing how much they matter and how important they are. But never once did he mention an identity that reflects me or half the kids that were in the class.

Members of the board, I know you haven’t been to school in a while and I know most of you don’t have any kids left in the school district.

But you must admit how uncomfortable it would be to be characterized just by your skin color on the first day of school, and be thought that you were wrong just because of your skin color.

I’ll never forget the look one of my friends gave me from across the room as we were sitting there listening to this blatant bias being expressed in the so-called “equity statement” by the leader of our school.

To be clear, I don’t need you to tell me that I matter, but hearing the condolences given to other races and leaving just one race out, inevitably you’ll start to feel like you’ve done something wrong. And in our principal’s attempt to unify us, he instead created unwarranted boundaries and barriers between his students, pitting us against each other based on characteristics that we can’t control.

In another separate instance, I was told that writing “all lives matter” on the whiteboard was political and could be seen as offensive. When I questioned the teacher after class, she told me that she didn’t have an answer but she had to erase it, and it was quickly erased.

There are political signs all over RHS, about specific races that matter, specific sexual orientations that matter, and specific perspectives that matter. But when I questioned the RHS administration about how these signs were political, they told me they were supporting human rights. So when I questioned why the equity statement didn’t represent all students, they told me that to even ask that question was outlandish and offensive. And when I asked why that was, they told me that “whites have a pretty good situation right now.”

Is that not racism?

Towards the end of the speech he explains that this is why he is now pursuing a home schooling program, for which he receives applause from the people in the room.

Watch the whole thing.

This madness is happening in schools across the country. The left is taking society backwards in the name of equity.

“The left is taking society backwards in the name of equity.”

But, most everyone knows what their actual intention is: destroy society.

Sure, it was over 65 years ago, but I recall a song we sang in elementary school. The closing lines of the song were, “no matter what our race or creed, we are Americans all!”

How does it go?

Those who can, do…

Excellent speech. I’m surprised they didn’t turn off his microphone.

The forced descent into tribalism being pushed by woke weirdos will end very badly unless a course correction is made. Our society had turned its back on overt racism and bigotry finally fulfilling the aspirations of our founding documents. Not just legally but culturally and voluntarily. Suddenly that became a problem for the woke. They wanted to become agents for change but the battles were largely won. Instead of finishing the last few feet of the effort they created new controversies. Some were cast as permanent villain and some as the permanent hero regardless of truth or evidence, heedless of the dangerous forces they were launching.

I feel exactly the same way, I use to look at my daughter who is half Latino and half White Western European ancestry and her two best friends, one half white and half black, one half black and half Latino, and think this is great, they are the future and it’s beautiful. They were great friends, played AAU basketball together for years, all 3 got scholarships to university’s, but then things changed.
The half black/white young lady who was both prom Queen and homecoming Queen in a rual 99% white school married a black racist minister in Memphis and she became ms black power.
The half Latino/ black, who had never dated a black man, now in her 30’s, has decided she is black, but still doesn’t date black men. She is very successful in her work ( which is amazing as she hasn’t sold the expense software the company sells to other businesses in almost 2 years, yet she still has a job paying her 6 figures, do the math) and owns a few houses, which she will only rent to black professionals ( nothing racist there)
I thought we had made it and now it’s such a disaster I don’t think I can say I’m not racist anymore. I’m tired of black victims

I absolutely hated Barack, absolutely he destroyed MLK and the dream…

They have to keep the money flowing.

“If all men are created equal, that is final. If they are endowed with inalienable rights, that is final. If governments derive their just powers from the consent of the governed, that is final. No advance, no progress can be made beyond these propositions. If anyone wishes to deny their truth or their soundness, the only direction in which he can proceed historically is not forward, but backward toward the time when there was no equality, no rights of the individual, no rule of the people. Those who wish to proceed in that direction cannot lay claim to progress. They are reactionary. Their ideas are not more modern, but more ancient, than those of the Revolutionary fathers.”
    Calvin Coolidge
    30th President

I’ve said it many times before, I will say it again.

America is one of only a handful of countries in the world where it was NOT acceptable to be openly racist.

Unfortunately that is no longer the case. The left is one of the most evil and racist group of people on the planet. Literally EVERYTHING is seen through their insane prism of race.

It’s Cultural Marxism, dividing races instead of Kar Marx’s dividing by class. Races need protection from a master instead of poor being trodded on by rich or land owners.

I wonder how the kid is today, it’s almost 2 yrs 6/21, would love an update

Thank you Obama and Biden (Obama 2.0). If the money followed the kid, schools like this would eventually be shut down. Unfortunately, maybe 10-15% of the families can afford private schools and these schools will only get worse – “We got rid of the troublemakers.”

“Whites have it pretty good.” Really? Then why are people routinely pretending to be non-white to get admitted to college, get government jobs, etc.? I guess that white privilege card expired.

This will slowly happen:

Scott Adams took it to a new level with a rant on his podcast claiming that Black people are a “hate group” that white people should “get the hell away from.”

“I don’t think it makes any sense as a white citizen of America to try to help Black citizens anymore,” said Adams. “It doesn’t make sense. There’s no longer a rational impulse. So I’m going to back off on being helpful to Black America because it doesn’t seem like it pays off.”

This isn’t a surprising take when the weirdos are empowered and enabled by govt through govt action or inaction to continue mandating that all members of society must not only pay attention to ‘race’ but make decisions b/c of race.

No one should be upset much less surprised when members of society respond to the woke weirdos demands and return to paying attention to ‘race’ and return to making their decisions b/c of ‘race’. These members of society are doing exactly what the woke weirdos told them to do, if not in ways the woke weirdos would prefer.

We can have an inclusive, colorblind society which makes decisions without regard to ‘race’ and category or we can have one in which ‘race’ and categories have primacy in every aspect. IMO, the colorblind, inclusive society we had established worked pretty well for about three decades but is being thrown overboard by grifters and hustlers to the detriment of all.

Well written. It took me a minute to remember who Scott Adams is and recall missing his comic strip in our Sunday paper. It can be no surprise that a people can disengage from others, just look at blue state residents moving to red states. It is logical. Me personally, I am utterly fatigued by all this woke DEI stuff. Equity, not equality, on and on. This movie is an old one, the script and actors sound and look different, but it all comes down to ‘intro to communism’ for slow learners.

It must be a mystery to some as to why Marxism or any radical leftist ideology is a path to freedom and success for so many ‘African Americans’ AND Africans ‘over there’. Something almost innate, just can’t be helped it seems. Bio Leninism or something.

        IMO this is multifaceted.
        1. Excuse making and rejection of accountability, responsibility and consequences.
        2. Failed public schools staffed by people more interested in ideology than education
        3. Bureaucrats at all levels who enable this
        4. Politicians at all levels who enable this
        5. Until very recently, little to no pushback from the broader public due to fear or complacency

Resulting in an uneducated, barely literate or numerate cohort who have been taught the ideology of oppressor and opposed. Traditional values and entities like employers and police automatically = oppressor.

Much easier to blame failure on an ‘other’ or the system. Can’t get ahead? Easy, transfer blame to the patriarchy or another ‘race’ or capitalism or traditional social constraints.

I’m done with them. I won’t go out of my way to do harm, but won’t lend a hand either. With all the quotas and set-asides and what looks like the dawning of direct money reparations, nuts to them.

Dozens of lib responses to this video, all on the order of, “poor you, your school and your country are still majority white, so you don’t have a right to complain.”

I would love to get a pass to be a fly on the wall for a dayat the high school I went to as been saying for years as Dennis Prager says they are Marxists Seminaries. I suspect most in the country are like this.

I think he is being generous in saying the Principal was trying to unify them. I don’t know that I believe that. I think they know what they are doing and are dividing us on purpose. We almost made it to a US that didn’t care what color you were. That would have broken the Democrat party and they will not accept that.

There are plenty of teachers, school officials, school board members, etc old enough to recall what their own high school experience was like, and realize how different things were back then. I find it incredible that they would consider the current educational environment to somehow be a better way of doing things compared to “the old days”. Making intentional, deliberate efforts to divide students cannot lead to a desirable outcome, unless destroying society is the desired outcome.

I was in the 8th grade in the 1969-1970 school year. My social studies teacher was a socialist, and let us all know it. Some of us, only kids, stood up to his nonsense.
I guess the only difference between now and then is that today the nonsense isn’t only heard from teachers of social studies. (Which was the case back then, as all of our other teachers appeared to be apolitical. Many of them were WWII vets, and that was the most we knew about any of them.)

Aarradin in reply to DaveGinOly. | February 26, 2023 at 2:47 am

Back then, pushing back against a teacher’s bias resulted in a debate.

Now, they go after kids personally, and recruit lefty students to bully them as well.

Kids aren’t any dumber than we were. The fear is based. They know there will be consequences.

Close but oh so far.

The pricipal was never attempting to “unify” them. Dividing us by race, pitting us against each other, and exploiting the divisiveness for political gain is the entire point of CRT.

Whites are evil, inherently, non-whites are oppressed. Its like original sin but without baptism or confession.

Its the Marxist Dialectic, substituting Race for Class. One Race HAD to be defined as inherently evil.

Freshman in High School, and now he knows how Jews felt in Germany in the early ‘30’s.
