Two Israelis, including a 6-year-old boy, were killed when a Palestinian terrorist rammed a car into commuters waiting near a crowded bus stop in East Jerusalem, the Israeli media report Friday.
“One child was killed and at least 6 others hurt when a car slammed into a bus stop in Jerusalem’s Ramot neighborhood in a suspected ramming attack on Friday,” the Israeli news website Ynet reported. An 8-year-old child injured in the attack is reportedly in critical condition.
The attacker, identified as Hossein Karaka, a 31-year-old Arab-Israeli resident of East Jerusalem, was neutralized by the police on the spot.
“Graphic footage from the scene showed several people strewn on the ground after a blue Mazda vehicle crashed into a bus stop near the Nebi Samuel site, between Jerusalem and the Palestinian city of Ramallah,” The Times of Israel reported. “Several bystanders were seen aiming firearms at the car. Police said the driver was shot dead by an officer who was at the scene.”
The Jerusalem Post reported the terrorist background of the Palestinian attacker:
The terrorist, identified as Hossein Karaka, a 31-year-old resident of the Isawiya neighborhood of east Jerusalem, rammed into a bus stop at the entrance to the Ramot neighborhood.A Facebook account reportedly belonging to the terrorist posted a series of posts in recent months glorifying Hezbollah and Palestinian terrorists, including a post calling the terrorist who conducted a shooting attack at the Shuafat checkpoint last year a “hero.”
Friday’s terrorist attack occurred two weeks after a Palestinian gunman murdered seven Jewish worshipers leaving an East Jerusalem synagogue.
Like in previous years, Israel faces a wave of terror in the run-up to the Muslim fasting month of Ramadan starting in March. Deadly terror attacks on Israeli streets and rocket barrages from Hamas-controlled Gaza mark the period surrounding Ramadan.
Palestinian terrorist groups, Hamas and PLO-affiliated Al-Aqsa Martyrs’ Brigades, hailed another deadly attack on innocent Israelis.
The Israeli TV channel i24news reported the PLO-linked Al-Aqsa Martyrs’ Brigades’ response:
The Al-Aqsa Martyrs’ Brigades, the military arm of the Fatah movement, released a statement praising the attack: “We welcome the Occupied Jerusalem operation, and see it as a natural response to the crimes of the occupation against our people everywhere, and we confirm that the resistance will continue its activity as long as the occupation remains on our land and desecrates our sanctity.”
Videos and pictures circulating on Twitter showed Palestinians distributing sweets to celebrate the terrorist attack that took the life of a 6-year-old infant, among others.
Similar scenes were witnessed after the synagogue shooting two weeks ago. Palestinians in Gaza and West Bank were seen handing out sweets, setting off fireworks, and joyfully chanting “Allahu Akbar” to celebrate the murder of innocent Jewish worshippers.
