Migrants Won’t Leave Hell’s Kitchen Hotel for Brooklyn Cruise Terminal Shelter

Migrants at the Watson Hotel in New York City’s Hell’s Kitchen refused to leave for the Brooklyn Cruise Terminal shelter established by Mayor Eric Adams.

The New York Post reported the Adams administration would open the Humanitarian Emergency Response and Relief Center in the Brooklyn Cruise Terminal. It can house 1,000 adult single males:

“Our city is at its breaking point,” Mayor Adams said in a statement about the cruise terminal plan.

Most of the temporary occupants would be people relocated from the city’s already packed Watson Hotel humanitarian relief center in Midtown, according to a letter obtained by The Post from Kevin Cho of the Mayor’s Office of City Legislative Affairs to City Council members.

“Once open, this site will serve approximately 1,000 asylum seekers in a congregate setting and will offer the same services adult men have been receiving at the other humanitarian relief centers, including on-site medical, food, laundry, and reconnections,” says the letter. “The Watson Hotel humanitarian relief center will transition to serve arriving families with children seeking asylum.”

But on Sunday night, 50 migrants gathered outside the Watson Hotel with activists. Only a few migrants went on a city bus to the new shelter.

Some who went to the shelter over the weekend went back to the hotel:

One Manhattan activist told The Post the men outside were staying at the hotel and were prepared to stay outside overnight. Some were moved to the new shelter earlier this weekend, but opted to return to the Manhattan site, she said.

“They feel that it’s not livable,” said Valerie, who declined to give her last name but said she was part of a mutual aid coalition helping migrants.

“The hotel won’t let them in so they’re planning to sleep here,” Valerie added.

City officials claimed the migrants would have the same services at the terminal as they do at the hotel:

More than 42,000 asylum seekers have arrived in New York City since last spring and we continue to surpass our moral obligations as we provide asylum seekers with shelter, food, health care, education, and a host of other services,” City Hall spokesperson Fabien Levy said in a statement.

“The facilities at Brooklyn Cruise Terminal will provide the same services as every other humanitarian relief center in the city, and the scheduled relocations to Brooklyn Cruise Terminal this weekend took place as planned. We remain in serious need of support from both our state and federal governments.”

It would be cheaper to send them on a cruise…. home.

Operation Wetback II. That’s what we need.

I’m sure someone downvoted for the term. But that’s what the original operation by Border Patrol (long before there was a DHS) was called. And it was successful and not racist (as the name would imply to a modern presentist).

Ok, don’t want free room and board then we have a free flight back to wherever you came from. Problem solved, problem staying solved. Talk about ingrates

They are busy concealing the detail that what it really is, is roughly a battalion of hostile foreign invaders who have established an occupied enclave in Hell’s Kitchen. They do not want to leave that enclave, they want reinforcements and to occupy more of this country. Given that New York and especially New York City asked for and supported the invasion of our country; my G.A.S. quotient is approaching zero. Hope they enjoy the concept of consequences.

Good, that the hotel isn’t letting them back in. But we’re supposed to have a cold snap soon and they may want to reconsider that offer at the new shelter. Would someone explain to me why we’re treating them better than the other homeless in NYC, who often avoid the unpleasant shelter system apparently because they’re sleeping in subway tunnels — and that Mayor Adams wants to evict them even from there?

They don’t avoid the ‘unpleasant shelter system’ because they’re sleeping in subway tunnels.

They avoid the ‘unpleasant shelter system’ because they have strict ‘no drugs or alcohol’ rules that the hobos refuse to abide by.

” Would someone explain to me why we’re treating them better than the other homeless in NYC”

Because they are hostile foreign invaders who the American Left always prioritizes over mere American citizens/subjects.

I believe control of who gets in the hotel and who doesn’t passed from hotel management and owners when they consented to its use as immigrant housing. I believe The city pays a fixed amount per room for its use, though who is responsible for maintenance and upkeep is unknown.

When the building’s use this way ends, if it ever does, it will be surprising if it ever reverts to public occupancy again. I’d expect it to become a political football kicked around by the city, the state, and politically connected developers. Ultimately, its future is almost certainly the wrecking ball.

Someone needs to tell him that New York was broken a long time ago.

They know laws don’t apply to them and nothing else does now either.

BWAHAHAHAHA!!! Squatter’s rights come to a Progressive haven!
BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!

Immigration reform with collateral damage in lieu of emigration reform.

The public appetite for funding all this and putting up with the entitled attitude of these illegals has got to be at least beginning to wear thin even in deep blue bastions. It will be interesting to find out precisely where the line is that once crossed support erodes away.

Who’s getting screwed here? One hotel owner, and a bunch of government functionaries. No skin offa the nose of Subway Joe Voter, so don’t expect any sea changes in opinion soon.

It is the taxpayer, local and national, that pays for the welfare benefits to the invaders. It is the localities where they settle that pay the societal costs of being invaded. New York and other Leftist cities’ objections to the cities along the border shipping the invaders north is that all of a sudden they themselves have to pay the social costs too. If you are a Leftist, it is in your nature to believe that someone else has to pay the consequences of your actions.

My point is that it’s not sudden. It’s delayed, and it’s always well-hidden. Like payroll withholding
When it comes to economics, progressive voters are stupid. Hell, more than half of them are fascinated by socialism..

CommoChief in reply to henrybowman. | January 30, 2023 at 5:11 pm

They try to keep it hidden for sure. Sometimes though it begins to seep through on local news. Which is one reason the blue bastions are very much NIMBY. When folks are confronted with consequences of the poor policy choices on their own doorstep they start paying attention.

It’s way easier to burnish woke credentials in an academic or theoretical sense. Those cute ‘in this house’ signs as an example. Proclaiming beliefs is far easier than being willing to adhere to the beliefs when put to the test of a face to face confrontation.

“When folks are confronted with consequences of the poor policy choices on their own doorstep they start paying attention.”
They’re too easily gaslit to blame the effect on the wrong cause.
I have progressives on my family who are convinced Putin is the cause of their pain at the pump, Trump was a Russian asset, and their next booster will take care of everything.
These are the “some of the people” that Lincoln was talking about, that you “could fool all the time.” And sanctuary cities are the types of places they all voluntarily congregate.

CommoChief in reply to henrybowman. | January 30, 2023 at 11:28 pm

          Henry,

I don’t disagree that some folks pretend not to know things. Putin and gas prices though are far more complex issues than this.

Not a great deal of nuance when the illegals one championed in the abstract become a visible reality trashing local hotels, complaining about free meals, boosting cars, robbing stores then refusing to relocate to a purpose designed facility.

The why may be debatable but the what isn’t. That’s the key difference with this situation as opposed to other leftist beliefs; here there exists, inarguably a definitive reality in front of their community’s eyes. No theory, just fact.

LeftWingLock in reply to henrybowman. | January 30, 2023 at 8:23 pm

I would bet the hotel owner is charging close to max legal rates and has close to 100% occupancy. They are making money hand over fist. So what if the hotel needs to be rehabbed in a couple of years.

henrybowman in reply to LeftWingLock. | January 30, 2023 at 10:59 pm

It’s all fun and games until whoever is footing the bill ghosts you. Then you have to deal with tenant eviction laws in a big blue city. You may as well take a taxi to Florida and leave the hotel building to the squatters.

“Migrants at the Watson Hotel in New York City’s Hell’s Kitchen refused to leave for the Brooklyn Cruise Terminal shelter… Some who went to the shelter over the weekend went back to the hotel…”

For anyone still sucking down the Hopium about these “traditional family-oriented hard-working Catholics” ever voting Republican, sorry you got bitch-slapped by reality.

“Gimme, gimme, gimme some livin’… every day…”

migrants ?

BierceAmbrose in reply to joejoejoe. | January 30, 2023 at 3:19 pm

“Migrants” we’re calling them now, it seems. I’m so old, I remember when using that word was Raaaaa-cist! You can classify newcomers by why they’re here, but it’s hard to keep up with which terms are Raaaaa-cist!, while what they otherwise mean remains the same.

Refugees — Fleeing extra-crappy conditions where they’re from. “Ukrainians flowing into Europe, like Syrians a few years back, are mostly *refugees* fleeing the free fire zone back home.”

Migrants –Moving to better conditions where they’re going. “Many North Africans moving into Europe are migrants, seeking a better life where there are things like food, and central heating (tho less of that last, these days.)”

Immigrants — Seeking to join and become like what’s working over there, where they’re going. “My parents came to America to be Americans. And here we all are. F___-yeah!”

Missionaries — Moving into other people’s lands, to convince them your way is better. “Missionaries invite people to understand differently, to then do as they will. If the new folks are insisting their hosts do things differently, it’s something else.”

Invaders — Seeking to capture territory and populations by force of arms to rule them your way.. “Let’s invade: then we can take their stuff and tell them what to do — better.”

Morally, I think some of how you tread the newcomers depends on which kind of new comers they are.

BierceAmbrose in reply to BierceAmbrose. | January 30, 2023 at 3:21 pm

So, this makes them possibly “migrants” to the US, perhaps “refugees”, or maybe something else.

To the hotel they’re Invaders, getting a helping hand from, let’s call they “allies.”

Don’t forget Undocumented — “We’re not here illegally. We’re just missing some paperwork.” The people who have no right to be here are here and you ain’t ever going to rid of them.

Maybe we could call these cops

Sure the news amd race mongers will be right on it!

Being a sanctuary city seems to have a down side when ‘those people’ arrive. Dems need to get on the same page with those who aspire to show up.

They are invaders pure and simple

They must go home

Or to one of Biden’s 4 homes, they can help with the clean up on isle 9 . I hear there are paper’s everywhere…

ugottabekiddinme | January 30, 2023 at 3:48 pm

Let us call things by their proper name. The accurate technical legal term for these people as enshrined in federal law (which is being violated daily by the *Biden administration) is “illegal aliens.”

I’m stunned. I thought our esteemed Border Czar was on the case and informed us that there is no problems to be found anywhere? This is exploding my world view that Virtue Signaling Progressives might not only be lying to us but that they suffer from NIMBY. Where is the compassion?

    henrybowman in reply to diver64. | January 30, 2023 at 6:29 pm

She’s still trying to remember if this week’s job was to ferret out “undocumented documents” or “classified aliens.”

Help from “state and federal governments” Your city and current affirmative action Mayor declared itself a sanctuary. When you pray for rain you have to expect the mud. Deal with it, the border states have for years.

The legacy of Democrat lawlessness and ‘rule’ in this country will be the destruction of the country as it has been. The vast majority of these people have no intention of becoming integrated or American. If they were as strident about fixing their own countries as they are about making demands here, it would be easier to sympathize with them. Both sympathy for and the ability to provide for them are beginning to reach the breaking point, no matter what Alejandro Mayorkis and the residents on Martha’s Vineyard think. Joe Biden, Gavin Newsom, Eric Adams, Chuck Schumer, et al are going to DEMAND that the rest of us pay for and fix this. It is coming

wait till this show plays in sanfran, la, boston, austin, etc–good luck evicting these people–” we didn’t mean for you to come HERE ! we wanted you to overwhelm/trash all those border towns in tx, az, so.cal, etc.! you can’t be HERE ! you have to go back but you need to vote first ! “

The “right” to vote is going to become a big problem. The country failed to fix it with the “dreamers.” Fixing it then, if not easy, would have been child’’s play compared to confronting the voting problem when it comes up with the millions who have been permitted to come in by the Biden administration, and it will come up.. I remember several months back when there were pictures of immigrants at the border burning their passports and personal documents on the advice of the immigration enablers.

Allowing the uncontrolled entry of millions of undocumented, unknown people into the country will have created a massive ‘underclass’ population that will be a big problem for generations to come. America as it has been known to most of the adult population alive today is going to disappear.
