McCarthy Loses 13th Round of House Speaker Votes, Adjourned Until 10 PM ET

UPDATE 3:40 PM: House is adjourned until 10 PM ET.

UPDATE 2:56 PM: So close…yet so far away.

UPDATE 2:26 PM: Well, well, well. Rep. Andy Harris changed his vote to McCarthy. Too late as “Others” already got five votes.

UPDATE 2:24 PM: Once again, Rep. Bob Good casts the fifth vote against McCarthy. That means we’re going 14 rounds.

UPDATE 1:57 PM: 13th round starts with Rep. James Comer nominating McCarthy. Rep. Veronica Escobar nominates Hakeem Jeffries.

UPDATE 1:22 PM: McCarthy loses the 12th round, but only seven people voted against him.

UPDATE 12:49PM McCarthy lost the 12th round when Rep. Bob Good voted for Jim Jordan. We’ll have a 13th round.

UPDATE 12:37: Rep. Bishop switched and voted for McCarthy! Rep. Brechen also switched to McCarthy. Rep. Donalds switches to McCarthy. Plus two more.

UPDATE 12:12 PM: Rep. Mike Garcia nominates Kevin McCarthy. Rep. James Clyburn nominates Hakeem Jeffries. Rep. Matt Gaetz nominates Jim Jordan. Rep. Lauren Boebert nominates Kevin Hern.

UPDATE 12:04 PM: Let’s go! Rep. Elise Stefanik says a quorum is not present. The House needs a majority of the members-elect present. That will likely happen and the vote will start soon.

It’s time for the House to vote for Speaker…again…for the fourth day. The voting has been pretty consistent, with McCarthy receiving between 200 and 202 votes, Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries at 212 votes, and others getting around 20.

What will happen today? I’m not optimistic. Are you? At least they’re not spending money or passing bad bills.
