Human Skeleton Discovered in a UC-Berkeley Building

“There are no outstanding cases of missing individuals from the campus community”

Could this have been a squatter who passed away or evidence of something more sinister?

ABC News reports:

Human skeleton found in unused residence hall at University of California, Berkeley campus

A human skeleton was discovered in an unused building on a University of California, Berkeley, campus on Jan. 10, according to college officials.

The University of California Police Department is investigating the remains, which were found in a residential hall complex and event space on the Clark Kerr Campus that hadn’t been used in years, according to school administrators. The building sits about a mile from the main campus.

There are no outstanding cases of missing individuals from the campus community, the statement read.

The Alameda County coroner is investigating the cause of death.

So, why hasn’t it been turned into a homeless “shelter” or a subsidized rental facility? Why do the academics hate poor people? It’s their lack of compassion that led to this person’s death going unnoticed, right?

Yes, that’s all Alinsky-ite snark.

Call me an Alinsky-ite then. And nobody has ever done that before. This taxpayer-supported institution devoted to the public good is the ideal candidate to turn unused space to other public purposes. They should not be allowed to let it sit idle for long without clear justification. Is Cal above housing homeless people who haven’t been approved by their Admissions Office?

If they can’t do that, they’re getting too much of our money and it should be reduced.

Great! Build it and they will come!” same comcept, y’know.

Jimmy Hoffa?

I could easily see a student not get reported missing, not every student will have a family. In any case, if not from the campus community then it’s a murder victim from the surrounding city.

If you’re a “Buffy TVS” fan, you’ll recall the episode where students were being eaten by a local nest and the campus authorities didn’t notice because “students drop out all the time”.

Probably not a vampire victim here, but maybe a homeless person who camped out in the empty building. Many homeless are in poor health or drugging, and if the building was unheated easy to die in your sleep. Had a former coworker die of exposure few years back, wrecked his car in a nighttime solo accident, left before the cops came (because drunk), tried walking home but stopped behind a storefront and took a terminal nap.

Campus authorities were further mystified by the lightness of the bones, and how the skull made a laughing sound while its jaws worked and eyes lit up when a hand was waved close to it.

One wonders…what made someone go in to look?

Asking for a friend.

Didn’t happen to be in the medical school, did it?
