The irony of this is that the far left typically responds to criticism of Soros as anti-Semitism.

Farley Weiss writes at the Jewish News Syndicate:

George Soros’s role in the rise of American antisemitism

The rise of antisemitism and antisemitic violence in the U.S. is partly the result of the political donations of George Soros.

For example, Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg received a previously unheard-of sum of $1,000,000 from Soros that was crucial to his election victory.

Now, Bragg is offering a plea deal of just six months in jail to Waseem Awawdeh, who together with a mob of thugs, savagely beat Nassau County resident Joey Borgen on a Manhattan street in 2021. The mob targeted Borgen because he is Jewish and Awawdeh has shown no remorse for his crime.

Americans Against Antisemitism studied 194 antisemitic assaults and 135 attacks on Jewish property in New York that have taken place since 2018. According to their July 2022 report, only two of the perpetrators went to prison. Clearly, under Bragg, fighting antisemitism is not a priority.

Soros has not just spent his money on district attorneys. He was also the main source of funding for the prominent anti-Israel organization J Street. Soros provided a substantial part of the original seed money for J Street and the group’s chairman, Jeremy Ben Ami, repeatedly lied about it before finally admitting the truth.

As AIPAC tweeted on Aug. 24, “George Soros has a long history of backing anti-Israel groups. Now he’s giving $1 million to help [J Street] support anti-Israel candidates and attack pro-Israel Democrats. AIPAC works to strengthen pro-Israel mainstream Democrats. J Street [and] Soros work to undermine them.”

J Street recently signed on to a statement saying they “oppose Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy’s pledge to strip Representative Ilhan Omar of her House Foreign Affairs Committee seat based on false accusations that she is antisemitic or anti-Israel.”

Wow. That takes self-loathing to a whole new level.

Soros is self-described as an avowed atheist. Whatever you think of him, he’s not a Jew. Perhaps his mother was but there’s no evidence to suggest this is self-loathing. J Street is self-loathing. The media needs to quit associating Soros with Jews and instead associate him with woke Marxism.

How do you determine who is a Jew and who is not?

      Milhouse in reply to kclark22. | January 27, 2023 at 12:32 am

His mother was a Jew and that makes him one, no matter what he or his mother believed. (His mother’s beliefs were no more Jewish than his are.) His son Alex’s mother is also a Jew, so that makes Alex one, again regardless of the fact that there is nothing Jewish about his beliefs.

“The irony of this is that the far left typically responds to criticism of Soros as anti-Semitism.”

The far left doesn’t have the self-awareness to understand what anti-Semitism actually is, and to recognize that they themselves are responsible for the overwhelming majority of it in America.

J Street isn’t the real story here. J Street is not actively antisemitic. Groups like “Jewish Voices for Palestine” and “If Not Now” are — and they’re both funded by Soros Jr, who is even worse than Sr.

George Soros is a pox on humanity and a real misanthrope. His last name sounds a lot like the Yiddish word, tzurus (derived from Hebrew), which means deep trouble. He has indeed brought tzurus to all of us, Jewish and non-Jewish alike.

Soros has been anti Israel and a self hating Jew for decades

Milhouse in reply to Steven Brizel. | January 26, 2023 at 9:44 am

Not self-hating. He doesn’t hate himself at all. As far as I can tell he doesn’t even hate other Jews. But he’s committed to a certain kind of liberalism (in the old-fashioned sense) that has no room for nationalism. He sees the fact that he happens to be Jewish as completely irrelevant, like some sort of tiny birthmark that is not worth noticing. And he hates the kind of Jew to whom being Jewish is their primary identity.

That’s why he’s against Israel; he’s against all nation-states, such as Hungary. He thinks humanity would be better off if we all just forgot about nations altogether and organized our states on some sort of rational basis.

Wish I could agree with you, Milhouse—but in this case your analysis is off the mark. I don’t put this down to any rational thinking on his part, but rather to his narcissism. Soros was convicted of insider trading in France in 2002, and also did severe damage to the UK financial system for personal gain. To ascribe any motives beyond his own pathetic need to be a modern Dr. Evil, well, lack any basis when measured against the man’s own stunning capacity to consider to inflict damage and have no remorse for it.

What kind of old fashioned liberalism? Old fashioned liberalism to me is classical liberalism in which individuals respect the rights of others and don’t go around wrecking civil society. George Tzurus does not fit the bill.

I have made this comment before, on one of these LI forums and elsewhere under a different pseudonym:

Alienated Jews, like Soros, J-Street, and Jewish Voices for Palestine and, sadly, more of the same, are gangrened limbs to the Jewish people. And we are unable to completely cut them off from the body. Considering how many awful things are being pushed by these accident-of-birth Jews, drawing the hate of otherwise decent folks, I *SO* wish we could disclaim them.

I cringe when reading about these rotten-apple Jews, especially in light of the well-known (to Jews, anyway) Talmudic maxim “All of Israel are co-signers to each other”.

Would you voluntarily co-sign for an irresponsible swindler?

And no, decrying the evil behavior of bad Jews is not anti-semitism.
