Eric Swalwell Throws Tantrum After Deservedly Being Kicked off Intelligence Committee

“#BREAKING Rep. @ByronDonalds admits on @thereidout that @SpeakerMcCarthy is kicking me, @RepAdamSchiff, and @Ilhan off our committees purely out of vengeance,” Swalwell tweeted Tuesday.

On Monday and after a riveting and, at times, surreal intraparty debate process over the course of several days that saw 15 vote rounds held before he officially became Speaker of the House, Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) confirmed that he would seek for Democrat Reps. Adam Schiff (Calif.), Eric Swalwell (Calif.), and Ilhan Omar (Minn.) are to be booted off their committee assignments.

McCarthy gave Punchbowl News the rationale for his decision:

McCarthy told Punchbowl News in an interview published Tuesday that he will act to prevent Reps. Adam Schiff, D-Calif., and Eric Swalwell, D-Calif., from sitting on the House Intelligence Committee. He will also seek to remove Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., from the House Foreign Affairs Committee.

“Swalwell can’t get a security clearance in the private sector. I’m not going to give him a government security clearance,” McCarthy said, echoing statements he made to Fox News in November. “Schiff has lied too many times to the American public. He should not be on Intel.”

As for Omar, McCarthy has previously argued she should be stripped of her committee seat for her outspoken criticism of Israel, which critics say is borderline antisemitic.

In comments made a year ago, McCarthy noted the new Democrat standard of doing this very thing, insinuating it would come back to bite them when they were out of power:

“The Democrats have created a new thing where they’re picking and choosing who could be on committee,” McCarthy said last January. “Never in the history [of Congress] have you had the majority tell the minority who could be on committee, but this new standard, which these Democrats have voted for — if Eric Swalwell cannot get a security clearance in the private sector, there’s no reason why he should be given one to be on Intel or Homeland Security.”

Now that Republicans have regained control of the House, McCarthy is engaging in a little payback. Naturally, this has caused some tantrums on the Democratic side from Swalwell, who took to the Twitter machine Tuesday after Rep. Byron Donalds (R-Fla.) sat down for a lively interview with MSNBC’s Joy Reid in which the issue of committee assignments was hotly debated:

During the interview, Donalds explained the concept of precedence to Reid:

The Twitter responses to Swalwell’s whining were brutal:

Interestingly, Swalwell left out the part where this likely would have happened to him even if Democrats still controlled the House:

The move is largely symbolic, as Swalwell is already due to be rotated off his committee, and Omar’s assignment is subject to a House vote that would likely be rejected by the GOP majority.

Whatever the case may be, the spoils and all that go to the victors. Sorry, not sorry, Eric Swalwell:

Heh.

How’s FANG FANG? That would have bene enough to get a GOP member booted form Congress.

You misspelled ‘indicted, tried and jailed’.

I believe she was reported to have died in China.

    Milhouse in reply to 2smartforlibs. | January 12, 2023 at 8:01 pm

No, it wouldn’t have got a Republican booted from Congress. And it certainly wouldn’t have got anyone indicted, let alone tried or jailed, since as far as is publicly known he committed no crime whatsoever.

There are enough legitimate arguments to make against Democrats. Why do some people insist on making things up?

artichoke in reply to Milhouse. | January 12, 2023 at 11:36 pm

There’s no law against having sex with a Chinese spy and not disclosing it on an application for a security clearance — which presumably he had to renew when the 117th Congress began in 2018? If there isn’t, there ought to be a law, and Congress is just the right place to create and pass that law. It would die on Schumer’s desk of course, but it would still be the right idea. But actually I’m pretty sure that’s super illegal. I’ve had a security clearance and I bet what Swalwell did can lead to prison time.

Milhouse in reply to artichoke. | January 12, 2023 at 11:47 pm

No, there’s no such law. And members of congress don’t have to apply for clearance. The Intel committee is entitled by law to access to all intelligence, ex officio, without any kind of clearance. That’s why there’s plenty of precedent for keeping suspect people off the committee. Remember back about 15-20 years ago when the Dems tried to put Alcee Hastings on the Intel committee? The president said if you do that I will order the intel agencies to stop briefing the committee. The Dems backed down on that one.

This little prick’s arrogance… He was Pelosi’s corrupt little bitch, and got spoiled.

I believe that Peking has solved Swallowswell’s Fang Fang problem….she died in a commercial plane crash a couple of years ago.
I’m sure that the CCP has provided the lad with a suitable replacement.

Elections have consequences, snowflake.
Someone slap him in the face and tell him to pull himself together.
Get video.

If you’re sleeping with a Chinese Spy, you shouldn’t be on the Intelligence committee! It’s really that simple.

But, but, but consequences are for the little people!!! /S

Senate and House members are infamous for leaking intel big time.

Dianne Feinstein is a known blabbermouth and her chauffeur of twenty years was a Chinese Spy.

On a much quieter front (less reported so far) is Schiff getting the same boot from the Intel committee, which is quite appropriate since he is first to the TV camera and lies like a rug. The absolute perfect membership of the Intel Committee is a set of House members who say absolutely nothing about it outside of the room. In a perfect world, the normal American would say “The House has an Intel committee? I didn’t know that.”

The GOP needs to go further. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene was removed from ALL committees in 2021. I’d do the same to Swalwell, Schiff, Omar, Nadler, and a couple more just to drive home the message.

The GOP is too nice to do that.

They can do them one at a time, death by a thousand cuts to prolong the suffering and leave them dangling waiting for the next. Hyperbole mostly but keeping a bit of powder dry and in reserve isn’t the worst idea. Realistically they can always take away other committee assignments given an excuse and these three jack legs may be dumb enough to do so.

artichoke in reply to CommoChief. | January 12, 2023 at 11:41 pm

Nah, then there’s pushback in the press each time you act. Cut it, get it done. Answer pushback with the example of MTG.

“But you’re escalating! Dems didn’t do it that much!”
“Damn right we’re escalating. When the bully punches you, punch back harder.” And continue to escalate.

Our system is broken anyway, it’s time to push for the best terms in the settlement.

Milhouse in reply to artichoke. | January 13, 2023 at 2:16 am

“You established the principle. How many people it applies to isn’t relevant. Now here’s a list of Democrats, each one of whom is guilty of worse offenses than anything Greene did. So if it was OK to exclude her from all committees, then each of these should be excluded too.

“Oh, and we’re putting Greene back on committees, because she should never have been excluded. The worst you can say about her is that she’s an idiot, and if that’s the criterion then boy do we have a list!”

Milhouse in reply to stevewhitemd. | January 12, 2023 at 8:06 pm

Certainly Omar. She must not be allowed on any committee, and it should be explicitly stated that this is a direct consequence of what the Dems did to Greene. If they want to call that “pure vengeance”, let them. Vengeance is just another word for consequences and accountability.

If on no committees, they would have almost no reason to be there at all . We would see them regularly spouting off on the daily MSM talking head shows because they have nothing else to do. The novel idea of representing their constituent’s interests would likely never occur to them.

The aspect of this that has blown my mind since the Clinton admin is watching politicians and their staffs get magically approved for security clearances based on winning an election when a routine background check and enforcement of non-politician standards would have gotten them laughed out of the security interview.

Bill Clinton (for example) couldn’t have enlisted as a recruit in the military without applying for a morals waiver. But get elected and you get access to everything and even get to grant clearances to your buddies.

    “Civilian control of the military.”
We used to point out to the members of the Massachusetts Public Safety Committee that if they applied for the gun licenses they control many of them wouldn’t be approved. Gun permittees in MA need a completely clean record, whereas politicians need only to have a record free of election-related offenses.

Joy Behar said, “We feel bad for that poor man. He lost his seat on the Intelligence Committee.”

“We would be willing to offer him a seat on the View. His intelligence level would be a good fit with all of us intellingent ladies.”

Real source of his anger; Fang Fang no more bang bang

Well I guess he’ll have to find a new hook for getting chicks now won’t he?

Good riddance to all three !

Let Swallwell ciommisserate with his mistress

He’s going out kicking and screaming and f@rting.

Swalwell’s behavior makes me think he took suggestions from a VG adversary…

“Now go to the media and cry like the little bitch you are!”

Comanche Voter | January 13, 2023 at 3:39 pm

Swalwell loves media attention. For a while I couldn’t turn on my TV without seeing this guy on some “news” show spouting the Pelosi Poodle Line.

That said, call it “vengeance”, or “justice” or “riding the little sumbuck out of town on a rail”, I don’t mind what happened to him. McCarthy’s actions re Swalwell, Schiff and Omar constitute a good start.
