China’s President Xi Admits Zero Covid Policy Was a Failure
Meanwhile, former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo demands that the US ban Chinese travelers.
How bad is the covid outbreak in China?
So bad that no amount of propaganda or media manipulation can hide it. So, China’s president Xi Jinping made the only sensible move and finally admitted the draconian Zero Covid policy was a failure.
The premier acknowledged ‘unprecedented difficulties and challenges’ in his New Year’s Eve address to the nation, and said it was ‘only natural’ that his harsh lockdown measures were met with resistance.
After the huge unrest, Xi dropped the Zero Covid measures on December 7 but his new strategy of living with the virus has caused infections to skyrocket, with infections currently peaking in Beijing.
In the first 20 days of December, the government’s top health authority estimates a staggering 248 million people – equivalent to 18 per cent of the population – contracted the virus.
…In his address, Xi broke his silence on his sudden policy pivot last month that freed millions from virtual house arrest, mandatory testing, closed borders and quarantine camps.
He said China is now in a new phase of Covid control which is ‘optimised’ to protect lives and the economy.
Meanwhile, the American press is back to clutching pearls about “variants.”
“China has a population that is very large and there’s limited immunity. And that seems to be the setting in which we may see an explosion of a new variant,” said Dr. Stuart Campbell Ray, an infectious disease expert at Johns Hopkins University.
Every new infection offers a chance for the coronavirus to mutate, and the virus is spreading rapidly in China. The country of 1.4 billion has largely abandoned its “zero COVID” policy. Though overall reported vaccination rates are high, booster levels are lower, especially among older people. Domestic vaccines have proven less effective against serious infection than Western-made messenger RNA versions. Many were given more than a year ago, meaning immunity has waned.
The result? Fertile ground for the virus to change.
“When we’ve seen big waves of infection, it’s often followed by new variants being generated,” Ray said.
You can certainly tell that the U.S. presidential campaign season is beginning, as former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo (and likely 2024 candidate) insists that this country should shut down travel from China.
He warned that Chinese President Xi Jinping has a plot to infect the world and spread a new COVID-19 variant after ‘the whole world has been through hell.’
China, which has the most stringent COVID-19 restrictions still in place, announced last month that it would start allowing travel out of and into the country following three years of ‘zero COVID’ policies.
Several countries, including the U.S., immediately said Chinese travelers would be required to test negative for coronavirus before boarding flights.
‘It sounds like we might have as many as 1 million Chinese people infected. Fifty percent of their population traveling,’ Pompeo told Cats Roundtable host John Catsimatidis in a Sunday interview.
I would suggest that the pandemic-prevention policies that Pompeo and others should focus on include the halting of “gain of function” research entirely, culling bureaucrats who were responsible for funding Wuhan’s bat virus research, and denying further grants to scientists who participated in the experiments (and then manipulated the media to deny the possibility of a lab-leak-origin for the virus).
We are going through many waves of different covid variants, and travel bans and mandatory testing will not stop the spread of these viruses. The better approach is to prevent another franken-virus from being created in the first place.

Or, the virus was already spreading out of control, so ending “zero COVID” before it got too bad allows him to blame the spike, which was happening anyway, on the critics of his policy.
Mike Pompeo is probably right that Xi Jinping intentionally released the covid-19 virus on the world. Having lived in the Far East for many years, I never believed for a minute that the virus came from a wet market; and I grew especially suspicious when certain Chinese researchers were either silenced or disappeared. May the Chinese people discover more and more clever and effective ways to protest his disgusting attempt to return to the Mao Zedong era.
Hence Fauci’s complicitness in the plot.

Despite the headline he’s not really admitting anything, just spinning the same lie as Fauci and company that his actions were necessary for the greater good.

I hope Fauci is squirming like a worm on a hot sidewalk. I hope all those Republican committees will make him sing like Sinatra. China has an oppressive regime over its people while the US had a Constitution that was largely ignored by politicians aided by bureaucratic health agencies. Democrat leadership or not, it’s the American people themselves that failed the sheep test by so willfully giving up their rights for a little bit of safety.
Nothing will happen to Fauci. The GOP will do nothing except hold a few meetings and pretend they’re getting to the bottom of things. I’ve grown far too cynical to think we can trust any of the clowns in DC.
I don’t mind gain-of-function research. I do mind outsourcing this kind of work to the a nation that is known to not prioritize safety so that we can save a buck.

No, this was a safety-based law, not a cost-based law. Gain of function was deemed to present more risk than reward, so the Obama administration outlawed it. Fauci did an end-run around him and funded COVID through a cutout. And that’s how we paid for the plague what brung us down.
When I look at the Price of Eggs, I must wonder if the virulent Avian Flu killing all the chickens is a Gain of Function variant that came from a lab somewhere.
Xi admitted a failure? Now go ahead and admit communism too. Maybe the new variant will wipe out the communist party. That would be justice.

This is a Coronavirus. They mutate fast, it’s one of the reasons they are the source of so many colds.
This is just a version that the Chinese added some part of MERS (Middle Eastern Respiratory Syndrome) in their ill advised “Gain of Function” experiments so it took a lot longer to get to a natural mutating with the first Omicron Variant which is much less lethal.
There is no way to stop it. Give out boosters every month or six weeks it will STILL just mutate outside the immunity from the vaccine.
Though the Chinese did kick the can down the road long enough that it became much less lethal before mass spread happened.
If a new variant is easier to spread and less lethal it will crowd out the others. Viruses rarely get MORE lethal after they make a cross species jump. That is counter to it’s chances of long term survival.
The “Spanish Flu” was circulating for 37 years after 1918, until crowded out by a more successful flu. SARS-2 will be the same way.
So China did all the damage it was going to do by creating it, then it escaping (Through incompetence.) and it getting out into the world.
Them finally letting it burn through the population and creating natural herd immunity till everyone has encountered it a few times is just facing reality.
I do not think it was actively a part of China’s illegal military biological warfare research but we know the Chinese military was watching and reading every bit of research the Wuhan Institute did, and incorporating it into their program.
No biological weapon would intentionally kill the old, sick, and the weak, it is useless against 99.999% of the military age population which a weapon would be aimed at.
They screwed around with stuff they shouldn’t, it got loose through Chinese Quality at the Viral Lab, and the rest is history.
I knew before September 2020 that if under the age of 60 and not obese or have a weakened immune system the virus had a very small chance of giving you anything worse than a nasty flu like illnesses, if that.
Many suspected over 50% of the population the virus didn’t make them sick at all, and they could spread it for a short time with no evidence of infection at all.
So the mass shutdowns and economic chaos was a waste of time. The vaccine becomes ineffective before it becomes available countrywide, let alone worldwide.
The travel ban will only delay the effects of acquiring their latest versions.
Infected Chinese traveling to other locations without a ban will lead to those citizens coming here with the latest variant.
This will only help for a month or two at most.

We need a lot more than testing. We need a complete ban – FOREVER – on Chinese people coming over. We need to retake/compensate land sold to the Chinese. We need to kick out every Chinese student FOREVER – and their embedded spies and IP thieves.

Xi has the Fascist demagogue problem several different ways, these days. Once you go full “L’Estat, c’est moi.” when everything is the state, everydamnthing is your fault, literally you.
