Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene Slams ‘Never Kevin’ Faction of the GOP

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene Slams ‘Never Kevin’ Faction of the GOP

“Perhaps more than any Republican, I am ready for our majority because I believe there is real work to be done to save our country. And the last thing I want is everything blown up on day one simply because a few dislike Kevin McCarthy, who is promoting the very agenda they believe in.”

As you probably know, some conservatives in the House of Representatives are hesitant to back Rep. Kevin McCarthy of California as House Speaker.

You may not have heard that Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia is not one of them. Not only is she supporting McCarthy for Speaker, but she is also tangling with other Republicans who are not.

Newsweek recently highlighted Greene’s support of McCarthy:

Why Marjorie Taylor Greene Is Breaking With MAGA to Support Kevin McCarthy

Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene is breaking with some of her closest allies to support Kevin McCarthy’s speaker bid.

McCarthy, a California Republican who is the House minority leader, is in for a tougher-than-expected speaker race after Republicans flipped only a handful of House seats in the midterms last month. The biggest threat to a speakership at this point is a right-wing challenger from Arizona, Representative Andy Biggs.

Should Biggs receive enough support from the Republican Party’s right flank, he could derail McCarthy’s bid. Several high-profile MAGA Republicans—including Florida Representative Matt Gaetz and Colorado Representative Lauren Boebert—have indicated they might withhold support for McCarthy unless he meets conservative demands.

Greene, a Georgia Republican who is viewed as among the most conservative members of the House, is one notable exception. Once a McCarthy critic, Greene has rallied behind McCarthy, calling on the GOP to show unity in supporting his speakership—finding herself at odds with other right-wing Republicans…

“Nothing can happen until we elect a speaker on January 3. And I think it’s our job as representatives of the people to get our act together and show the American people that Republicans can lead in the majority and that we’re willing to do that,” she said.

Greene is talking like a realist who wants the new House Republican majority to get to work.

She recently wrote an op-ed about this for the Daily Caller:

If Republicans Want To Get Things Done, There’s Only One Choice For House Speaker

The one thing people are sick and tired of from Washington, D.C., is empty promises.

Lying to the base is a red line for me, and that’s what five of my closest colleagues are doing when they claim a consensus House Speaker candidate will emerge as they oppose Kevin McCarthy.

Here’s the reality: No one is running against Kevin McCarthy for Speaker.

No, Jim Jordan is not running. He has endorsed Kevin McCarthy. Jim is preparing to lead the Judiciary Committee as chairman, exactly where we all need him to be. Jim Jordan will lead the charge to rip apart the corrupt Department of Justice and FBI.

No, Steve Scalise is not running. He was unanimously elected Majority Leader and publicly supports Kevin McCarthy…

Perhaps more than any Republican, I am ready for our majority because I believe there is real work to be done to save our country. And the last thing I want is everything blown up on day one simply because a few dislike Kevin McCarthy, who is promoting the very agenda they believe in.

This “Never Kevin” trick has been done before. Some in the Freedom Caucus ousted John Boehner using the same “Vacate the Chair” rule that’s being demanded now. That’s how we got Paul Ryan as Speaker.

The “Never Kevin Five” are already vacating the chair by refusing to vote for our conference nominee while simultaneously demanding the “Vacate the Chair” rule to remove the Speaker at a later date.

If they are successful, they will give us something worse than Paul Ryan.

Republicans should listen to Greene and get to work.

There isn’t a minute to waste.

“If Republicans Want To Get Things Done,…”

The Republicans main goal always gets done: they’re controlled opposition simps for the Democrats’ agenda.

If McCarthy is having trouble being taken seriously as a leader that’s his own doing. I don’t know if Biggs would be better but I know that McCarthy doesn’t inspire confidence in GOP voters or this wouldn’t an issue

Donald Trump wants McCarthy to be Speaker of the House and has endorsed him. So it’s not just Marjorie Taylor Green.

Kevin McCarthy is a RINO, and it was RINO’s who backstabbed Trump. If the party is going back to RINO ruling the roost, then a whole lot of us will say screw them.

      CommoChief in reply to JohnSmith100. | December 23, 2022 at 12:04 pm

You are setting this up as rino v maga but haven’t explained why DJT is throwing his support and endorsement to the head rino McCarthy. Either DJT is the leader of the maga faction aka ‘maga king’ and his pronouncements carry weight with his supporters or he isn’t and his pronouncements don’t matter. That would indicate DJT’s grasp on maga voters isn’t as strong as many believe.

Personally I think they should settle on Lee Zeldin as a compromise choice for Speaker with McCarthy remaining majority leader. Let McCarthy prove himself by delivering the votes and getting things done legislatively for a term or maybe two.

henrybowman in reply to CommoChief. | December 23, 2022 at 1:52 pm

Or it could mean that MAGA voters like his policies, but fully understand that choosing employees and allies is one of his hopelessly fatal blind spots..

CommoChief in reply to henrybowman. | December 23, 2022 at 2:05 pm

Fair enough though the true believers won’t accept that or much of any criticism towards Trump. I don’t get how they refuse to accept that the man has flaws; he’s only human.

IMO the few flaws are mostly outweighed by his other positive traits but even that mild criticism is too far for many true believers.

I think that the swamp needs to be cleaned Up and I do nor see anyone else capable of doing that. RINOs are swamp and McCarthy is RINO.

          CommoChief in reply to JohnSmith100. | December 23, 2022 at 3:00 pm

          John,
Ok we agree on those points:
          1. Clean/drain the DC swamp is vital
          2. McCarthy is a rino and card carrying member of the DC Swamp leadership

That doesn’t explain why DJT made the choice to throw his political backing to McCarthy in his bid to become Speaker.

Either Trump is an outsider totally opposed to the DC Swamp and its rino squishy members as you suggest or he is just another politician who, like every other politician, sometimes must compromise principles in order to further their own interests; aka be pragmatic.

That’s not a slam or hit against Trump FWIW. It is a simple recognition of the sometimes ugly reality of politics. Every politician and Trump by declaring his candidacy for the r Presidential nomination is a politician, must sooner or later make these sorts of compromises. All of them, even DJT.

Trump endorsing McCarthy is the pragmatic choice b/c its a low risk play that doesn’t offend the DC establishment. A higher risk play would have been to refuse McCarthy and throw his support to someone like Lee Zeldin as a compromise choice.

A move like that, if he got it done, would have boosted his own standing and perceived strength as the de facto head of the r party and solidified his claim as the standard nearer in 2024. To try that but fail would do the opposite and demonstrate weakness which is IMO why he chose the safe play.

ChrisPeters in reply to CommoChief. | December 24, 2022 at 2:04 pm

Donald Trump has had a history of making terrible endorsements, including Mitt Romney.

Whether this is due to inconsistent positioning on issues, very poor judgment, or both, the fact is that we would be better off disregarding his various endorsements going forward.

Milhouse in reply to CommoChief. | December 24, 2022 at 8:46 pm

Zeldin is no longer a House member, since he chose to run for governor instead of for his own seat.

angrywebmaster in reply to technerd. | December 23, 2022 at 6:04 pm

Apparently, Steven Scalise has been approached to stand for Speaker.

And, so far, he says he won’t. But Biggs and his supporters hope that if they can manage to deny McCarthy a majority on the first vote, or maybe on the 2nd, 3rd, or 4th vote, eventually someone like Scalise will agree to be an alternative who can get a majority.

As I wrote elsewhere, maybe this will work and maybe it won’t, but I don’t see the harm in trying.

No, nobody needs to listen to that garbage.
McCarthy needs to go, and Rona McDaniel, and Mitch McConnell, but they are not the only ones that need to go.
And I don’t know, but it looks like we are losing MTG too. There is a fine line between “realist” and RINO.

Trump can run independent, and really F the party. All the Twitter revelations will lead to more Dem defections. Can Trump win running independent and picking up Dems who are fed up with Marxists?

That is a very real risk, so dump Kevin McCarthy or face consequences.

      CommoChief in reply to JohnSmith100. | December 23, 2022 at 12:16 pm

No independent candidate, including DJT, can win the electoral college. At best he could throw the vote to the HoR where he would lose. Abandoning the r party and by definition opposing the r candidate for President isn’t likely to result in a majority of r in the HoR betraying the r party candidate to pick DJT.

An independent run would be doomed to failure and would confirm the view many voters hold that DJT is mostly concerned with advancing his personal prestige and feeding his own ego. Not a view I share about DJT anymore than I do any other politician all of whom believe their own BS.

Just in passing, but I would like to see an actual specimen of a Democrat who is fed up with Marxists.

Noting that I have given up on the Republican Party opposing the Left in any way, so this is not a GOPe RINO talking to defend the current Nomenklatura, but the game in the Capitol is rigged. McCarthy will be the Speaker. And he and McConnell will collaborate with the Left in everything, and the mass of Republicans in the House and Senate will go along with it. It is what it is, and we should recognize the reality.

The reality of the political effects of that recognition will surprise and horrify those in office if we actually have elections [real ones, with honest vote counts] in 2024. If we don’t then everybody knows the game being played.

I’d say Tulsi Gabbard, but it leads to a No True Scotsman fallacy.
Better would be Elon Musk, but the fallacy would still hold.
To wit: Democrats who are fed up with Marxists are no longer admitted to the functions.

JohnSmith100 in reply to Subotai Bahadur. | December 24, 2022 at 6:45 pm

I agree, and that would mean subversive Dems will continue to scheme and subvert agencies.

I don’t think he can run independent. In many states R/D candidates automatically qualify for the ballot but others, like the Libertarians, must qualify by signature count every election no matter how many other times they’ve qualified. It’s one of the ways R/D keep challengers out, and you can be certain challenging this ballot count, combined with junk ballot submissions by D agents and Never Trumpers secretly on his staff to sabotage him, would be used to keep Trump off the ballot in at least one important state and doom his candidacy.

MYG Ian’s going Rino, she’s following Trump, for whatever that reason is

McCarthy talks the talk but just show me where he walks the walk. I’ll wait.

Getting rid of John Boehner was great; we were then punished by the GOPe by having Paul Ryan thrust as the only viable candidate for the chair. Declaring defeat as the only possible conclusion if we do not cooperate is weakness of will or intelligence.

I really don’t understand her complete support, over the top for McCarthy. He was such a wus he took he off all her committees per Nancy potllosys request.
He vilified her
And President Trump also supports him, the man who wanted him to resign post Jan 6 and is such a weasel.
I just don’t get it

Trump either isn’t who you thought he was or your understanding of the long game is minimal.

Both are very real possibilities and aren’t mutually exclusive.

@gonzo, you wrote: “And President Trump also supports him, the man who wanted him to resign post Jan 6 and is such a weasel.”

No, McCarthy did not want Trump to resign. He literally said he would recommend it only if it came down to Trump being removed from office under the 25th. Facing such a choice, resign or be removed by his own Cabinet in disgrace as unfit for office, McCarthy said–in that limited circumstance–he would recommend Trump resign. He also said in the same leaked call that he didn’t think Trump would take his advice.

McCarthy’s problem is that he couldn’t think that fast under pressure. It’s just not in him.

You are comparing apples and oranges and I did read differently from other sites about his ,McCarthys, lack of courage and WILLINGNESS to ENCOURAGE President Trump to resign

      He’s a weasel

I won’t even ask which sites those were. Shudder. Anyway, you can listen to the call yourself, since I included it in my post on this very topic. You may hear something different than I do in those leaked calls, but at least listen to them yourself and form your own opinion (not one you picked up at some nuthouse site).

Not nuthouse sites. Seems that’s the go to and I have listened to the call and I have read reports of additional conversations he had with “leadership.

You believe what you want, doesn’t make what I say untrue

Because McCarthy supported it. Dah!!!!love the down votes, keep it up!

I was waiting for the paragraph in her speech that started, “No, Andy Biggs is not running,” but it never came.

I know Biggs. He would be a kick-ass Speaker.

I have no idea what this lady is thinking.

Milhouse in reply to henrybowman. | December 23, 2022 at 10:25 am

But Biggs will not be a consensus candidate. He isn’t pretending he can actually win the speakership. His and his supporters’ case is that if they can deny McCarthy a win on the first vote, then someone will emerge to challenge him on the second or third or fourth vote.

Either it will work or it won’t. It doesn’t hurt to try it. It’s not as if Jeffries can win, as I’ve heard some people suggest. To win you need a majority, so as long as no Republicans vote for him he can’t win.

I think Marge just wants to get down to busines. I see her point, and maybe she’s right. If McCarthy proves to be the lox we all believe he will become, he can always get the hook.

Not so easily done if he continues to oppose the very measures of restraining the Speaker that the three of the five Rep opposing him have laid out as their price for supporting him.

The only real opportunity to decide if McCarthy is Speaker is now, later on without the changes in the rules the opposition is asking for it will be nearly impossible to ‘give him the hook’. Which is why McCarthy hasn’t budged on making those concessions and won’t if he can avoid it.

In essence the three Reps want the same rule adopted that was used to oust John Boehner from the Speaker’s office.

      henrybowman in reply to TheFineReport.com. | December 24, 2022 at 3:15 pm

Hook time is now or never, “Pass it now and fix it later” never, ever happens.

Greene’s an idiot, and always has been. She’s an embarrassment to the GOP.

No, she’s not a racist or an antisemite, or at least I don’t think she is, but she’s stupid enough to act in ways that leave some room for doubt about it. I give her the benefit of that doubt, but I understand why some people might not.

gonzotx in reply to Milhouse. | December 23, 2022 at 4:20 pm

“Marjorie Greene has a lifetime of business experience, having grown up working in her family’s company. In 2002 Marjorie purchased Taylor Commercial, a commercial construction and renovation company. The company has since managed a quarter of a billion dollars of construction projects. Marjorie successfully started, grew, and sold a thriving CrossFit gym here in Georgia which has become one of the top CrossFit gyms in the country. Marjorie has a unique perspective on how to succeed from the ground up, through true hard work and financial responsibility….”

    Some idiot.

    https://greene.house.gov/about/

Quoting her own boasting, or that of some flak she paid to do her boasting for her, doesn’t prove anything. It certainly doesn’t suffice to rebut all the direct evidence of her idiocy, which she displays every time she opens her mouth.

McCarthy’s opponents have asked him for specific items to support him. McCarthy has refused.

As the House is run now, representatives can’t offer amendments to bills, or really have their bills considered. They are mere window dressing. Anything to alter this is welcome. And McCarthy refuses.

So he believes he can just strong-arm his way into the speakership. We shall see. Biggs would be fantastic.

    Here was the price

    1. You are not actually speaker, we will emasculate the position to the point it is meaningless so when the Democrats push something through the senate you won’t be able to block it.

    2. Two moderates from New York with re-elections to win in blue districts could trigger vote of no confidence whenever their constituencies place pressure on them or any other time they feel will make 2024 easier for them.

    3. If we win big in 2024 Republican Party will NOT be permitted to buy Democrat votes for Republican agenda, so there will be no legislation on anything except things Democrats correctly couldn’t care less about like our obsession with upper class taxes and bloated military budgets.

I could go on but if he had signed on the dotted line the Democrats wouldn’t have actually suffered loss of the house he was 100% right not to.

CommoChief in reply to Danny. | December 23, 2022 at 1:37 pm

      Danny,

Bloated military budgets and upper class taxation is the focus of the DC establishment because it benefits them and the big donor class. Just as their fixation on importing cheap labor instead of paying higher wages to American Citizens leads them to be squishy on border security.

The DC establishment still acts like it is 1995. The base has moved on to a far more populist orientation. We don’t see the return on protecting big business and wealthy donor class or spending $ to send our children to fight in endless wars.

        Has the base moved on?

The number of times I have heard from ordinary Republicans, and read in spam tweets/posts about how wonderful it was Trump “rebuilt the military” (which means increased the military budget, I think military was better before it was allowed to go woke) is legion. Furthermore increased military budget was the concession Trump got in return for a wide variety of other concessions to the Democrats. Military budget increased every year Trump was president, he even got the sequester legislation revoked to do it. Having “rebuilt the military” was a major part of the re-election campaign to. Trump may have been wrong but he clearly didn’t think the base had moved on from bloating the military budget. Furthermore Trump had tax cuts as a very high priority, and was making further tax cuts a major part of his re-election bid.

Anecdotally the military budget is half of my debates with other Republicans. While that is anecdotal polling isn’t and polling seems to show while some Republicans have become disillusioned with the military industrial complex that most still cling to it.

We need to work to get the base to move on which in turn is how to get the establishment to also move on. The only senator I have seen attack the military industrial complex recently is Ron Johnson who is not exactly a firebrand, and is very much welcome in the circles of people who have the dreaded “establishment” label.

The point also still stands that if we can’t buy votes to push our agenda our agenda will never become legislation ever. We can’t stop vote buying because unlike us the Democrats want to achieve their agenda in the political system we actually have and so are going to use the tools available in our system as we have just witnessed.

McCarthy was absolutely right to reject demands that would have made retaking the house mostly meaningless, and created problems for the next Republican president getting legislation on any issue Democrats care about impossible.

CommoChief in reply to Danny. | December 23, 2022 at 3:23 pm

          Danny,

It is true that there’s life left in waving the bloody shirt and ginning up support for bloated military spending. Patriotism is still the last refuge of scoundrels. It is much less effective than in years past.

Lots of people commenting here at LI have fallen for the narrative that the Ukraine govt are supporting and defending all that is good and right. Which is bunk. The govt of Ukraine is a corrupt client State of the US and UK.

They shutdown all media and consolidated it to the state. They shutdown all opposition parties and jailed the opposition leaders. They shutdown the Russian Orthodox Church. They stifled all dissent. None of those totalitarian acts indicate they are the good guys or wear white hats.

Our r leadership wants to appease their donor class who want to sell weapon systems and arms. The d/prog hate Putin due to Russia Collusion Mythology and their desire to do the opposite of Trump. The DC establishment is united in their frenzy.

Better evidence of the disillusioned r base is military recruitment and retention. That’s the feeder population for the military. Families with a history of service tend to be overwhelmingly traditional and not d/prog or woke or adhere to the academic fashions of the day such as CTR/DEI/ESG or trans ideology. They are old fashioned sorts.

The numbers on recruitment are tanking because the folks who used to join are refusing. The Veterans in their families and their communities are telling them to pass on it. This won’t be a temporary phenomenon and the DC establishment waving the bloody shirt or waving the Stars and Stripes at them won’t be as effective as in times past.

This is the same MT Greene who once publicly referred to “the so-called airplane” that hit the Pentagon on 9/11. It takes a special level of stupidity to make statements like this, which is her penchant. She is always available to Democrats when they want to reinforce the stereotype of Republican knuckle-dragging. She is an embarrassment and an albatross around the necks of Republicans, and she shouldn’t be taken seriously by anyone wanting to curtail the power of Democrats. Please…Somebody primary her.

Milhouse in reply to Henry P. | December 24, 2022 at 9:03 pm

Wow, I hadn’t heard of that one. I wonder how any of her defenders here will try to explain how that was not idiotic.

henrybowman in reply to Milhouse. | December 25, 2022 at 9:53 am

There’s plenty of photo evidence available on the web.

The gist of the narrative is that the building damage was impossibly skinny to have been caused by a plane. There was no evidence of the slightest surface damage being caused by wing extensions, nor any such debris found. In fact, there is a fascinating dearth of photographic evidence of debris whatsoever… nor (unlike the WTC) are there any photographs of an approaching plane taken by the public, despite the fact that the Pentagon is on one of the most heavily traveled freeway loops in the DC area and there are two public parks within walking distance (Gravelly and Fort Marcy, the former immediately adjacent to Washington National Airport and frequented by “planespotters”).

The speculation is that something hit the Pentagon, for sure… but it wasn’t a passenger plane. The damage profile much more closely fits a missile-shaped object, but no detonation. It continues that before 9/11 there was a scandal coming to a boil about some billions of dollars that had inexplicably “gone lost” on the Pentagon’s books, yet after the attack, talk of this issue completely evaporated.

If you want someone to defend “Jewish Space Lasers,” I’ve already played my turn.

Milhouse in reply to henrybowman. | December 25, 2022 at 9:41 pm

The “Jewish Space Lasers” is easy to defend. Not from a charge of idiocy, but from a charge of antisemitism. First of all, neither she nor the person she was retweeting ever wrote the phrase “Jewish space lasers”. That is 100% an invention of her attackers.

The contention of this person was that a certain person, who is an executive at the Rothschild corporation, has a major position both in a company building space lasers (which are absolutely a thing), and in the infamous boondoggle known as the California “bullet train” project. Putting two and two together to get thirty-five, this person suggested that perhaps the space lasers were used to clear brush for the railroad project, and it all went pear-shaped when something caught fire and burned half the state. This is a really really stupid suggestion, but there’s nothing hateful about it; and the fact that the person at the center of the speculation works for the Rothschild company doesn’t make it antisemitic.

It should be noted that MTG didn’t even come up with this, she retweeted it, and as several courts have noted, retweeting something does _not_ constitute an endorsement, let alone an adoption, of everything it says. The same should also be borne in mind about Trump’s retweets.

However, re the Pentagon, there are certainly photographs of the plane approaching, and none of the so-called “evidence” against a plane makes any sense at all. It’s all of a piece with the whole “steel doesn’t melt” nuttery about the WTC.

gonzotx in reply to henrybowman. | January 3, 2023 at 4:43 pm
