Brandeis University Shuttle Bus Accident Leaves One Dead and Multiple Injured

“a shuttle bus carrying Brandeis University students crashed into a tree late Saturday night in Waltham, Massachusetts”

What an awful thing to happen, and right before the holidays.

NBC News in Boston reports:

1 Dead, 27 Injured After Bus Carrying Brandeis University Students Crashes in Waltham

One person is dead and 27 others were injured when a shuttle bus carrying Brandeis University students crashed into a tree late Saturday night in Waltham, Massachusetts, authorities said.

In a statement released Sunday morning, the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office stated 27 students were on the bus, and that one student had been pronounced dead at the scene. Brandeis University identified that person as Vanessa Mark, an undergraduate student at the university.

The Weston Fire Department confirmed there was a full mutual aid response to the 800 block of South Street near the Weston/Waltham line for what has been declared a mass casualty incident. Part of the roadway was blocked off, as emergency vehicles lined the streets, including many ambulances.

A spokesperson for Brandeis University released a statement several hours after the crash saying school officials had been informed that 27 people — mostly Brandeis students — were taken to area hospitals, and they were told one person had died from their injuries. There was no immediate update on any of the others’ conditions.

Comments

Very sad. Prayers for the victims and their families.

A mass casualty event? Just how hard did the bus hit this tree?
Note the 27 people were taken to hospitals, not just treated at the scene and released. Yikes.
