Biden Administration Preparing to Grant License to Chevron to Drill for Oil in Venezuela

“Why is Joe Biden so obsessed with killing oil and gas jobs in America and creating them in Venezuela?”

Joe Biden is reportedly preparing to allow Chevron to drill for oil in Venezuela, even as energy prices are skyrocketing in the United States despite our wealth of natural resources.

Biden’s energy policies are driving inflation of pretty much everything. His dedication to the left’s obsession with climate change is hurting Americans across the country.

So how does his position on Venezuela make sense?

Just the News reports:

Amid still-elevated gas prices, Biden prepares to give Chevron license to pump oil in Venezuela

The Biden administration is preparing to grant an oil-pumping license for Chevron to extract oil from Venezuelan fields, a move reportedly contingent upon the Venezuelan government’s adopting of a new humanitarian program.

The White House “is poised to grant a license to Chevron Corp. to pump oil in Venezuela,” the Wall Street Journal reported on Thursday, echoing numerous other media reports.

The move would allow Chevron “partial control of its oil-production and maintenance activities in dilapidated Venezuelan oil fields,” the outlet reported.

The license is “contingent on the Venezuelan government and its political opponents’ announcement, expected Saturday, to implement a $3 billion humanitarian program,” the Journal noted. The $3 billion is set to come from funds unfrozen by the U.S. as part of a relaxation of sanctions against the country.

Reuters has more on this:

White House officials aim to “shift oil sales from illicit and non-transparent channels to transparent, legitimate channels,” the person said. The United States could revoke permissions if the Maduro administration fails to negotiate in good faith or uphold its commitments, that person said.

“We have long made clear our willingness to provide targeted relief based on concrete steps that alleviate the suffering of the Venezuelan people and bring them closer to a restoration of democracy,” said a spokesperson for the U.S. State department.

U.S. President Joe Biden’s administration has reason to grant Chevron a wider operating license with U.S. shale production gains slowing, Russia’s oil exports shrinking under sanctions and Saudi Arabia signaling possible OPEC output cuts.

The United States this year has kept oil prices from soaring by releasing more than 200 million barrels of the nation’s emergency oil reserves. But those releases are due to end soon.

This is insanity.

None of this has to happen. The United States has enough natural gas and oil to last for decades, if not centuries.

The Biden administration is doing this on purpose.

It is unfathomable that a United States President would choose the Commie Venezuela over the free State of Texas! Nearly treason!

In effect, he isn’t. Most of the refineries that will be processing their heavy sour are located along the Gulf Coast. That’s where it was going before sanctions.

I have read elsewhere that US refineries are operating at more than 90% capacity. No new refineries will be built in the USA because of environmental loons. So where will this heavy crude be refined? Not the USA, afaik.

“Why is Joe Biden so obsessed with killing oil and gas jobs in America and creating them in Venezuela?

Because he’s a communist.

Venezuelan oil is dirty, thick and filled with sulfur and mercury. US fracked oil is superclean and the consistency of murky nail polish remover.

US refineries are configured for medium dirty oil. Rather than retool for superclean fracked oil, they want to import thick, dirt sour crude to mix with clean US oil.

Once again, some refineries on the Gulf Coast can process heavy sour from Venezuela. One of the reasons for the Keystone XL pipeline was to transport heavy crude from Canada to these same refineries.

Also because everything is for sale with this traitor

It’s been less than a decade since the commies down there ‘nationalized’ their oil industry, stealing vast sums from numerous US oil companies in the process.

Of course, as ALWAYS happens with commie centralized command-and-control economic moves, the ‘smartest men’ proceeded to drive their oil industry into ruin.

Why on earth would we participate in Act 2 of this lunacy? Oh wait, because we have a corrupt, America-hating, communist scumbag as POTUS. That’s right, I forgot.

The fine print in the agreement would allow the export of 2 million barrels of oil from Venezuela along with 2 million immigrants.

Right, that was my first thought.
Why Chevron? Why not just United Fruit, and Maduro can skip right to “the good part” a lot faster?

Michael Johnson | November 26, 2022 at 12:56 pm

Why Chevron? Did they buy some cool Hunter paintings, pay through Burisma, or make a “dark money” contribution.

Agree with all above. Joe is back to the ‘love some Marxist/Communists’ Democrat playbook. That is bedrock belief for his party. They have been traumatized since Reagan and the fall of the USSR.

Because he’s a scumbag! The Repubs better grow some balls and impeach this filthy, senile maniac!

since when did Venezuela elect Biden to run their economic policy???

1) Twice the kickbacks, from both Chevron and Venezuela.
2) It makes us dependent on more oil imported from our “enemies” with said oil being subject to cut off not only at the will of Venezuela, but also at the discreet request of the current US regime if they find it desirable without getting their own hands dirty.
3) As noted, it requires a more polluting refining process that can be used by the State for dictatorial and revenue purposes.
4) And they are rubbing our noses in the fact that they hate us and we can do nothing about it.

Also, $3 billion of frozen assets for humanitarian aid to be unfrozen.

Very little will go to humanitarian aid, but plenty will be available for kickbacks.

With 10% of that for the big guy.

I thought it was bad for first-world privileged & melanin-deficient (but, I repeat myself) to inflict imperialist pollution and resource pillaging on underclass brown people?

Well, if we accept for a moment that the bans on US drilling are motivated by genuine concern for our environment, then it makes sense to allow drilling in Venezuela. It’s not the USA’s job to worry about the Venezuelan environment. That’s the Venezuelans’ job, and if they’re OK with it there’s no reason we should object.

Of course the premise is false, and therefore the conclusion is also false.

Gosport in reply to Milhouse. | November 27, 2022 at 2:24 am

Another reason the premise is false is that they are only proposing to drill for/pump unrefined oil in Venezuela, It’s not getting burned there, just pumped.

And it is nasty, hard oil to crack. The only people with the existing capability to refine it is us, which is why they aren’t marketing it elsewhere.

Why are Biden’s puppet masters doing it? Damned good question, which leads us to all those other fallacies.

      diver64 in reply to Gosport. | November 27, 2022 at 8:18 am

A number of countries have the capacity to crack that dirty crude. They are not because of the sanction threats by the US

        Gosport in reply to diver64. | November 27, 2022 at 9:28 am

There are very few refineries that can crack heavy sour oil or Venezuela would be a very rich nation and would be telling Biden to bugger off.

Why? Because the Venezuelan government are fellow authoritarians.

Picking winners and loser with America on the loser side is not good policy. On the other hand, I have Chevron stock so WIN FOR ME

This goes beyond rank incompetence and dim-witted, indefensible and manifestly stupid foreign policy and energy policy. This is glaring malevolence and collaboration with evil. That’s what enabling totalitarian, oppressive and despotic regimes by giving them a monetary windfall/lifeline is fairly characterized as.

The vile Dumb-o-crats aren’t merely stupid and inept — they are evil and lack a scintilla of moral clarity/probity.

I wonder how many millions in bribes thee.y paid Quisling Biden.

How are we going to handle lawsuits against Venezuela for their debts and theft of property? Any payments to them can be claimed by their victims.
