The Washington Post‘s fact checker Glenn Kessler sure was quick to try to backup Stacey Abrams’ false claim that unborn human beings do not have a heartbeat at six weeks.

Any parent or someone who has read a pregnancy book or can perform a simple Google search knows the unborn human being has a heartbeat at six weeks.
It’s the most beautiful sound in the world. It’s so strong it can change someone from pro-abortion to pro-life.

No wonder they don’t want anyone to have an ultrasound.
Anything to dehumanize a human being. They must change the language and twist the truth in any form to justify their ends.
They claim they’re the party of science, but when science goes against their agenda, you have to change it. Roe v. Wade goes away, states take steps to protect unborn human beings, so we must mangle the English language to “prove” abortion doesn’t end the life of an unborn human being.
What Abrams said is awful and a lie. But I’m going hard on Kessler because it is literally his job to fact-check politicians. He’s not just a reporter. He is literally a fact-checker.
And plenty of websites literally prove Abrams and Kessler are spouting misinformation.

Oh, wait. What to Expect has some excellent information:
By week 5 of pregnancy, the cluster of cells that will become your baby’s heart has begun to develop and pulse. If you have a first trimester ultrasound (around or after week 6 of pregnancy), your practitioner or a trained sonographer will check on this embryonic cardiac activity.

American Pregnancy Association: “Between 5 ½ to 6 ½ weeks, a fetal pole or even a fetal heartbeat may be detected by vaginal ultrasound. The fetal pole is the first visible sign of a developing embryo. This pole structure actually has some curve to it with the embryo’s head at one end and what looks like a tail at the other end.”
Very Well Family: “While the heart of a fetus is still developing, it may be detectable by ultrasound as early as 6 weeks gestation. Technically, it is not a fetus at this point but an embryo, and the heartbeat is only visible on an ultrasound, not audible this early in pregnancy.”

Since we’re talking hearts, human babies are born with a hole in their hearts, which in most people closes in infancy. So, a baby isn’t human until way later.
I and my coal black little heart say they’re not fully developed until they’re off their parents’ health insurance at age 26. I am not advocating for legal abortions up to 107th trimester. But, if they’re not fully developed we don’t have to listen to them, either.
The heart and circulatory system of a fetus begin to form soon after conception. By the end of the fifth week, the heart of the fetus is able to pump blood throughout its body. We may argue over whether the cluster of cells that will become the baby’s heart should really be called a heart at this stage, nonetheless, it has developed enough to have a pulse. If there’s no pulse—no circulation of blood—the baby is dead.
Some of the less mentally astute abortion enthusiasts are on record saying that the mother can decide to “abort” (read it: murder) the baby after it is born.
The loss of critical thinking is readily apparent. If you are so ignorant that you can’t discern a man from a woman, something even insects can do, you have issues or were severely maleducated.

Ultrasound doesn’t detect electrical activity, it uses high-frequency sound to detect surfaces within physical objects, and their movement over time. And if electrical activity converted to audible sound waves can’t be considered authentic “sound,” what’s that coming out of your cellphone?

Glenn Kessler is a former diplomatic correspondent whose background is in business and international affairs. He has no medical qualifications and quite obviously has no idea how/when a fetus forms or how an ultrasound machine works.

Glenn Kessler also clearly has no idea “how radio works” either, to use an evocative Firesign Theatre expression.

I’m just reading the Atlantic article, as corrected, and came across this whopper: “Ultrasound made it possible for the male doctor to evaluate the fetus without female interference.” As if there were no female doctors. And as if doctors would have no problem with relying on a patient’s subjective reports of how they feel if only the patient were male.
This moron would never say the same about cardiologists, and how much better it is that they can see what’s going on in someone’s heart instead of relying on the patient’s evaluation of where it hurts and how much. I suspect that more than one person will put together the fact that Dobbs was about a state putting on a 15 week limit for on-demand abortion. The more that takes place between conception and that 15 weeks, the easier it is to justify and liberals don’t want that. The more they can disguise the fact that the fetus is actually a forming baby, the more support they get. Once people understand it’s a life, the more complicated the issue becomes.
