WaPo ‘Fact Checker’ Glenn Kessler Spreads Stacey Abrams’ Lie That We Don’t Hear a Baby’s Heartbeat at Six Weeks

The Washington Post‘s fact checker Glenn Kessler sure was quick to try to backup Stacey Abrams’ false claim that unborn human beings do not have a heartbeat at six weeks.

Any parent or someone who has read a pregnancy book or can perform a simple Google search knows the unborn human being has a heartbeat at six weeks.

It’s the most beautiful sound in the world. It’s so strong it can change someone from pro-abortion to pro-life.

No wonder they don’t want anyone to have an ultrasound.

Anything to dehumanize a human being. They must change the language and twist the truth in any form to justify their ends.

They claim they’re the party of science, but when science goes against their agenda, you have to change it. Roe v. Wade goes away, states take steps to protect unborn human beings, so we must mangle the English language to “prove” abortion doesn’t end the life of an unborn human being.

What Abrams said is awful and a lie. But I’m going hard on Kessler because it is literally his job to fact-check politicians. He’s not just a reporter. He is literally a fact-checker.

And plenty of websites literally prove Abrams and Kessler are spouting misinformation.

Healthline: “Your doctor will monitor your baby’s heartbeat at each prenatal appointment. You may be able to hear your baby’s heartbeat for the first time as early as 6 weeks.”

What to Expect: “You may see (and/or hear) cardiac activity for the first time from week 6 of pregnancy or later if you have an ultrasound at one of your early prenatal appointments, though the timing of when it can be detected can vary a bit.”

Oh, wait. What to Expect has some excellent information:

By week 5 of pregnancy, the cluster of cells that will become your baby’s heart has begun to develop and pulse. If you have a first trimester ultrasound (around or after week 6 of pregnancy), your practitioner or a trained sonographer will check on this embryonic cardiac activity.

By 6 weeks, the embryonic heart cells will pulse about 110 times a minute. In just two more weeks, the fetal heart system will contract at a pace of around 150 to 170 times a minute. That’s about twice as fast as yours!

Babycenter: “You may be able to see the beating of cells in the heart tube for the first time when you’re about 6 weeks pregnant if you have an early ultrasound exam.”

American Pregnancy Association: “Between 5 ½ to 6 ½ weeks, a fetal pole or even a fetal heartbeat may be detected by vaginal ultrasound. The fetal pole is the first visible sign of a developing embryo. This pole structure actually has some curve to it with the embryo’s head at one end and what looks like a tail at the other end.”

Very Well Family: “While the heart of a fetus is still developing, it may be detectable by ultrasound as early as 6 weeks gestation. Technically, it is not a fetus at this point but an embryo, and the heartbeat is only visible on an ultrasound, not audible this early in pregnancy.”

Larry O’Connor shows us where the myth started, and the long list of corrections The Atlantic had to put in its article. I’m laughing.

The responses are fantastic, but Physics Geek always has a response worthy of showing off.

Wapo Fact Checker checks Stacey Abrams assertion that a person is not fat at 475 pounds. “Oh Stacey is absolutely correct. Therefore she displays a healthy weight and is a role model for all little girls everywhere.

Evil stupid people

Endless supply

>The so-called “heartbeat” sound you hear is created by the ultrasound.

First they said if it isn’t born, it isn’t a baby. Then they said if it’s not yet fully developed, it isn’t human. Now they are saying that the little thing that pulses isn’t really a heart, even though it clearly is a little blood-pumping thingy. Oh, and an amplified sound isn’t a sound.

I can’t wait to hear what they say about stethoscopes.

They cannot win any debate on merit ever. They have to change the language, change the rules, force their policies down everyone’s throat because no one would voluntarily accept them.

“…if it’s not yet fully developed, it isn’t human.”

Since we’re talking hearts, human babies are born with a hole in their hearts, which in most people closes in infancy. So, a baby isn’t human until way later.

I and my coal black little heart say they’re not fully developed until they’re off their parents’ health insurance at age 26. I am not advocating for legal abortions up to 107th trimester. But, if they’re not fully developed we don’t have to listen to them, either.

The heart and circulatory system of a fetus begin to form soon after conception. By the end of the fifth week, the heart of the fetus is able to pump blood throughout its body. We may argue over whether the cluster of cells that will become the baby’s heart should really be called a heart at this stage, nonetheless, it has developed enough to have a pulse. If there’s no pulse—no circulation of blood—the baby is dead.

Some of the less mentally astute abortion enthusiasts are on record saying that the mother can decide to “abort” (read it: murder) the baby after it is born.

The loss of critical thinking is readily apparent. If you are so ignorant that you can’t discern a man from a woman, something even insects can do, you have issues or were severely maleducated.

Is the author of this screed even a doctor, or at least, a biologist?

Abrams clearly deals in fake science as to both a healthy body weight and the significance of fetal heartbeats

Who are you going to believe? Your lying eyes and ears or people who claim womyn can have penises and men can give birth?

MoeHowardwasright | September 22, 2022 at 5:31 pm

Stacy Abrahams has a “fecal” heartbeat. Why you ask? Because she’s full of sh&t, that’s why!

The far leftists are literally boosting somebody who is so utterly insane that she actually believes there is a giant phantom conspiracy of doctors and medical manufacturers that ‘inserts’ a heartbeat into an ultrasound purely for propaganda (and is apparently so stupid that she doesn’t understand that ultrasounds are used for a WIDE VARIETY of medical tests, not just baby pictures).

And this is the same group of people for labeling you a ‘conspiracy theorist’ for pointing out that states violated their own explicit election laws in 2020.

Someone should really, really get Fauci’s take on this question.

murkyv in reply to Olinser. | September 22, 2022 at 7:57 pm

I get dopplar ultrasounds on my legs every years. Just had it done a month ago. Four BP cuffs down my legs and a little cuff on each big toe

And the technician still also uses a stethoscope before the procedure

I know the whoosh whoosh sound very well

Ultrasound doesn’t detect electrical activity, it uses high-frequency sound to detect surfaces within physical objects, and their movement over time. And if electrical activity converted to audible sound waves can’t be considered authentic “sound,” what’s that coming out of your cellphone?

I’ve said before we are dealing with evil, I don’t know any other way to say it. They want to destroy children – either before they are even born, or if they miraculously make it to the earthly world, try to ruin them sexually in school. OMG it is horrific.

She will try and weasel out of this. The sound we hear from the ultrasound machine is made by the machine but it is an aural way of communicating the motion of the heart. If one had a micro-stethoscope up against the heart there would be “sound”. First we have a SCOTUS jurist who won’t dabble in biology and now a governor in absentia doing just that. Having taken embryology and using ultrasound as a tool of the trade, I think Abrams has WEIGHED in above her pay grade.

“She will try and weasel out of this.”
Are you talking about the woman [sic] who contested an election loudly and on video for the past four years, and now maintains she never did that?
Why would you say such a thing?

Glenn Kessler is a former diplomatic correspondent whose background is in business and international affairs. He has no medical qualifications and quite obviously has no idea how/when a fetus forms or how an ultrasound machine works.

One suspects Abrams realized she badly needed some air-time, so she said something sensational which happens to support her all abortion, all the time stance to get it.

If communists couldn’t like, they wouldn’t be able to speak at all.

“The Science” is a stock character like “Howard W. Campbell, Junior.”
When Democrats need it, they pull it onstage to speak its prepared lines.
Otherwise, they push it off into the Green Room and lock the door.

Democrats are capable of hearing dog whistles however; in fact they hear them everywhere.

That heartbeat you hear isn’t a heartbeat, just like the intentional destruction of life isn’t killing. Because Stacey Abrams says they aren’t.

I’m not a Georgian, but I do hope she loses, just because it lessens the chance of me ever having to hear such a stupid take slip from the gap between her teeth again.

There’s no heart at six weeks so it’s not a heartbeat.

what a header photo–doubt there’s anyone on that stage with an iq over 65

The ghouls are back in town.

I wonder if Herr Kessler also believes the Holocaust ( which his family participated in ) also did not happen.

Babies are judged and labeled in the tradition of witches and warlocks, girls in some societies, albinos in others, and Jews who are often cast as deplorables, with Hebraic privilege, toxic morality, and summarily, electively, collectively aborted under socially progressive regimes with Diversity (i.e. color judgment, class-based bigotry), Inequity, and Exclusion (DIE) policies in order to relieve “burdens”.

Milhouse in reply to avi natan. | September 22, 2022 at 11:02 pm

His family did not participate in the Holocaust. And if you want to use a salutation appropriate for his grandfather it would be Meneer.

I’m just reading the Atlantic article, as corrected, and came across this whopper: “Ultrasound made it possible for the male doctor to evaluate the fetus without female interference.” As if there were no female doctors. And as if doctors would have no problem with relying on a patient’s subjective reports of how they feel if only the patient were male.

This moron would never say the same about cardiologists, and how much better it is that they can see what’s going on in someone’s heart instead of relying on the patient’s evaluation of where it hurts and how much. Or ER doctors using X-rays to see broken bones, instead of relying on patients’ reports. But it’s exactly the same thing. And it has nothing whatsoever to do with sex, or gender, or whatever we’re calling it this week. The doctor’s or the patient’s.

Anybody else notice what is happening here? Shortly after Dobbs and here we are debating the most ardent baby killing advocates over when the baby heartbeat can be detected….6 weeks or 10 weeks? That’s the argument now? Winning!

Vile Stacey Abrams is doing her father, Idi Amin, proud. She displays his pathological narcissism, imperial arrogance, self-entitlement and obnoxious totalitarianism.

I suspect that more than one person will put together the fact that Dobbs was about a state putting on a 15 week limit for on-demand abortion. The more that takes place between conception and that 15 weeks, the easier it is to justify and liberals don’t want that. The more they can disguise the fact that the fetus is actually a forming baby, the more support they get. Once people understand it’s a life, the more complicated the issue becomes.
