Hate Hoax Fallout: U. South Carolina Cancels Games Against BYU Following “Racist Incident” For Which There Is No Evidence

“The incident at BYU has led me to reevaluate our home-and-home, and I don’t feel that this is the right time for us to engage in this series.”

In response to a racist incident that likely never happened, the geniuses at the University of South Carolina decided to stage a virtue signalling protest and cancel its scheduled games against BYU.

Fox News reports:

The recent alleged Duke-BYU women’s volleyball incident is now affecting basketball season, which doesn’t start for practically another three months.

The South Carolina University women’s basketball team canceled two games – one this year and one next – against BYU in response to the alleged incident.

Duke’s Rachel Robinson claimed that a fan subjected her and her Black teammates to racial slurs “throughout the entirety of the match” against BYU.

However, the claim has received pushback from witnesses who say they “heard absolutely nothing.”

Despite the conflicting reports, Gamecocks head coach Dawn Staley is comfortable with her decision.

“As a head coach, my job is to do what’s best for my players and staff,” Staley said in a statement released by South Carolina on Friday. “The incident at BYU has led me to reevaluate our home-and-home, and I don’t feel that this is the right time for us to engage in this series.”

. . . . BYU officials and BYU police both [sic] have not confirmed slurs were used, nor were they able to tell if the person was shouting in Richardson’s direction while she was serving as she claimed.

“Various BYU Athletics employees have been reviewing video from BYUtv and other cameras in the facility that the volleyball team has access to for film review. This has been ongoing since right after the match on Friday night,” BYU associate athletic director Jon McBride said in a statement. “The person who was banned was the person identified by Duke as using racial slurs. However, we have been unable to find any evidence of that person using slurs in the match.”

A BYU athletics official also told the BYU student-led newspaper the fan was mentally challenged.

So one person heard supposed racial slurs directed at her, and a mentally challenged fan was banned from games . . . for something else entirely. There is no video. No witness. No nothing to support the player’s claims, yet South Carolina decided it didn’t matter. The allegations were enough, apparently, even if they are false.

Sports Illustrated has more:

Gamecocks coach Dawn Staley and South Carolina athletics director Ray Tanner issued statements Friday confirming the decision to cancel an upcoming home-and-home series scheduled to take place in the 2022–23 and ’23–24 seasons. The Gamecocks were set to host the Cougars in their season opener on Nov. 7 before traveling to Utah for a contest next year.

“As a head coach, my job is to do what’s best for my players and staff,” Staley said. “The incident at BYU has led me to reevaluate our home-and-home, and I don’t feel that this is the right time for us to engage in this series.”

Tanner added, “Dawn and I have discussed her thoughts on the situation. I support Dawn and all of our coaches in their right to schedule games and opponents that are best for their teams.”

This is beyond ridiculous. There is no evidence whatsoever that the alleged incident even happened, and if it did, it was related to women’s volleyball, not women’s basketball, and did I mention this is ridiculous?

BYU should sue all for lost revenue and defamation…..sue both personally and professionally. People will rethink their behavior when the money comes out of their own pocket….

I’m sure they’re all over that, right after they wipe the dribbling drool from their shoes. Spineless useless woke fools deserve what they get.

Other schools will take note and try to avoid hoax smears by not inviting them to compete. The truth doe not matter to the perpetually aggrieved.

What lost revenue? It’s women’s sportsball. No one goes to those games anyway unless they’re related to the players.

      “ What lost revenue? It’s women’s sportsball. ”.

OK, you win. Imagine presenting the argument that women’s sportsball makes a bazillion a game to the jury….

Forcing the defense to say it makes pennies…Better yet, get Rapinoe to say it….

It would be worth it for the look on the Defense’ face. 🙂

“Racist incident for which there is no evidence”…….

……..segment of faux racism for which there is no cure.

It’s time for parents to step in as adults since these schools are no longer run by them.

As a Carolina Alumni, parents to Carolina Alumni, grandchild and great grandchild to alumni this is an embarrassment to the University. Tanner is a joke as AD and Dawn Staley owes BYU an apology

Blacks going to Black… so tired of them

Yeah, nothing happened, but it could have. This effect would be called Affirmative Predujice.

Shouldn’t this count as a forfeit?

I seem to recall my history where Jackie Robinson put up with a lot of bad stuff and yet went onto the field and performed fine.

Benny Goodman was one of the bandleaders that broke the color line for the big bands. They put up with a lot and went on to achieve fame.

I had some anti-Semitic stuff pulled on me by a “superior”. Ironically, he was black. I went on to achieve a relatively successful life.

What is wrong with today’s blacks? Are they THAT thin-skinned? Are they soot-flakes?

There’s nothing ironic about the antisemite being black. Studies since at least the 1960s, and probably earlier, have found a much higher incidence of antisemitism among black people than among white ones.

The Gentle Grizzly in reply to Milhouse. | September 4, 2022 at 8:15 pm

Oh, I know. Milhouse, this guy was such a looney-bin that he made a point of going to personnel and pulling the service jackets of all new people showing up in the division. Even the “wrong” denomination of Christianity could get you on his [excrement] list. My being a) Jewish, b) red-haired, and c) left-handed, had this man convinced I was the devil.

      (cue Twilight Zone theme)

    Seriously? Benny Goodman wasn’t Jewish?
Next, you’ll be telling me that Charlie Parker wasn’t Irish!

The Gentle Grizzly in reply to henrybowman. | September 5, 2022 at 8:53 am

He was Jewish. He was one of the first band leaders to break the color line for band personnel. He also did his best to see to it ALL the band members, regardless of color, stayed in the same hotel as the white band members.

The back… black hole… whore h/t NAACP incident.

The sequestration of burdens of evidence in darkness is a dogmatic principle of Diversity, Inequity, and Exclusion (DIE).

If I were a University coach I’d cancel my games against Duke over this racist dog whistling and encourage others to do the same.

    artichoke in reply to diver64. | September 6, 2022 at 3:30 pm

Such independent thinking is not allowed into sports administration, sports journalism, etc. You don’t see it anywhere do you? It’s all a hive of submission to or love of lefty ideology, everywhere in sports.

Duke is a very exclusive and privileged environment.

Colonel Travis in reply to r2468. | September 4, 2022 at 6:33 pm

My wife went to Duke. We got married in the Duke Chapel. She refuses to donate any money to them. I’ve met so many stuck up snobs from there. This was before the woke BS sunk in its claws. I can’t I imagine how bad it is now, even reading this nonsense. To actually have to engage with these people….

The truth does not matterto the perpetually aggrieved.

So, they thought they were going to lose and took this as an excuse to back out, while claiming to be victims.

They think that they can abort the baby, cannibalize her profitable parts, sequester her carbon pollutants, and have her, too. Time will tell if their dreams are viable and sustainable.

Dawn Staley is the exact person that she claims to oppose.

BYU caved before even waiting to find out if there was any evidence. They now deserve to be victimized.

Something similar happened when People of Black (POB) and People of Brown (POB2) rejected political congruence (“=”) in California, and the transgender vanity train invaded Salt Lake City to, ostensibly, put Mormons in their proper place.

Mormons are the Jews in the coal mine.

Bigotry against Mormons. Why not? As long as you can play the race card and make a big bluff.

Find Victor Davis Hanson recently talking about Smollett if you want a good laugh.

If you live in South Carolina

1. State reps may get 2-15 letters a week so YES they do see them and they have very disproportionate impact.

2. Because of 1 you have a responsibility to write about this to your state rep and demand action about the University of South Carolina.

If you decide “MUH GOVERNMENT BAAADDDDD!!!” yes you are supporting the University. Write to your state rep and demand they do something about the University of South Carolina cancelling innocent people or yes it will be you next and you will regret doing nothing now.

Either the Bush/Palin era is over or we are.

The modern model of witch hunts and warlock trials for twice the profit: sympathetic forcing and an empathetic solution.

BYU is a private college wholly owned by the LDS church. Their current strategy is to plead guilty and hope it goes away. If I were LDS I would be livid. If they let this stand every student will be tarnished. Their sports teams could even be banned from post season participation. Every student and alumni should be pushing hard to combat the school’s stance or distancing themselves from the school.

Had not seen this until now.
How sad it is that both Carolina’s have 4 of the worst R senators in the country and have university’s that are so corrupt. Makes one wonder what the republican legislatures are doing? They have control, maybe they are part of the problem.

Octavius A in reply to Barry. | September 5, 2022 at 10:21 am

Who are the two goofs that down voted this? All the major state universities in both of these states are are left-wing indoctrination institutions. South Carolina counterport in the state, Clemson University is just as bad. Do you live in either of these states? I live in one of them and this is an although this is likely a hyperbolic statement, clearly there are worse Republican senators but the comment is not without truth Wake up people, the Republican party is not going to save you. Just voting Republicans. Is not enough you’re going to have to force them to represent you and the only way that’s going to happen is if the party is purged Tim Scott recently said that when the thx he Republicans are in control they are going to lead. That’s looking less and less likely at this point but regardless, how about lead now! Where were you when you had two years of complete control of Washington and you did nothing?.

I’ve lived in both states, started in the North and in the North again for going on 32 years. South Carolina between age 12 and 27.

The downvotes? Those are just the run of the mill marxist that comment here. Badge of honor!

The truth is that the republican party that has controlled the legislatures in both states, and has complete control of the university systems, does nothing, just like their federal counterparts.

The republican party, the GOPe is our problem. We have to fix that or we’ll end up shooting our way out of the hell coming our way.

Sounds like an excuse to cut the travel cost budget for a non-revenue sport.

Isn’t it odd that a Duke University athletic team finds itself in the middle of a hoax racism drama? I have read the long thread on Twitter that shows all the things BYU did during the game to identify the person using the “N” word, including sending several BYU employees into the stands, reviewing the video capture from numerous cameras at the game, all for naught. Unfortunately the main protagonist has hardened her position due to her grandmother’s support and will never acknowledge the truth. BYU is a university of white people so the lie will live forever.

artichoke in reply to Dave. | September 6, 2022 at 3:38 pm

and since when does the self-proclaimed victim, with no support, get to decide anything. Is this “believe all women” but even moreso because this is a black woman? The poor guy didn’t even play in the game and had some disability, so she’s evil for going after an apparently innocent disabled guy.

THIS is why Progressivism sucks. THEY spew hate hoaxes and people actually believe them. The University of South Carolina should be forced to take LOSSES for these games for being stupid.

Cancelling a college women’s basketball game? Now 16 people will need to find something else to watch.

If the University of South Carolina wants to go full woke maybe they should change their mascot. I think it’s high time to demand an immediate change and re-branding. First off, the “Gamecock” represents the glorification of an illegal gambling sport that has been outlawed for sometime now.. Second, glorifying the gamecock mascot with its spurs promotes animal cruelty as the two avian opponents fight to the death for the amusement of those that have placed their bets. Finally, South Carolina fans can be heard chanting in the stands, “Go Cocks!” Not only is this anti-feminist but it’s also anti-trans and pro cis gender. The University of South Carolina needs to put its money where his mouth is and make immediate plans to get rid of this immoral mascot and suspend all sports until this has been accomplished.

These people hear what they want to hear. You cannot rationalize with them.

If SC refuses to play BYU then SC forfeits the game. BYU must sue for loss or revenue and defamation. Puthe woke out of business one way to bring a halt to their ridiculous claims.

These false accusations of anti-black racism are hate attacks against whites and should be condemned in the same terms as real incidents of race hatred against blacks.

Ideally other schools would refuse to play against South Carolina until they withdraw their disgusting false accusations of racism.

artichoke in reply to AlecRawls. | September 6, 2022 at 3:41 pm

It’s even legally OK to discriminate against whites. Any race but white gets you protected class status.

Legal question: since they are discriminating against white women (imagining the BYU women’s basketball team has a lot of white players), do those white women get protected class status (they are women) and thus protection from being discriminated against by other women?
