Gavin Newsom Blames Trump for People Leaving California

“He said many factors contributed to this trend, but the number one was former President Trump’s visa policies.”

While speaking at a recent event, California Governor Gavin Newsom blamed the historic number of people leaving his state on Trump’s visa policies.

California has been steadily losing its population for two years.

It might have something to do with California’s high taxes, high crime, restrictive COVID policies, out-of-control homelessness, and other issues.

It’s hard to believe even hardcore Democrats would buy this line from Newsom.

FOX News reports:

Gavin Newsom says people left California because of Trump’s visa policies

California Gov. Gavin Newsom recently blamed a mass exodus of people leaving the Golden State on former President Trump’s visa policies.

The comments came during a talk Newsom gave earlier this month at the Code 2022 conference, videos of which were posted on YouTube Friday.

The Democratic governor touted California’s achievements, which included outperforming other states in terms of GDP growth and a more than $100 billion-dollar operating surplus.

Host Preet Barara then asked the governor how he reconciled those statistics with the fact that thousands of people have left California in recent years.

Newsom conceded that the state had lost around 182,000 people in 2020. He said many factors contributed to this trend, but the number one was former President Trump’s visa policies.

“Our formula for success is getting first-round draft choices from around the world. I mean, we’re as dumb as we want to be,” Newsom said. “This whole border debate is made up.”

The border debate is made up? Really? Here’s the clip:

So why are people leaving California? Just two days ago, E.J. Antoni of the Washington Times opined:

Why are so many residents fleeing California?

Why is everyone leaving? In short, California’s misguided leadership has turned the state’s finances into a complete basket case.

Because California’s lockdowns during the pandemic were so strict and lasted so long, its economy went into a tailspin and then only grew anemically compared to the national average. Unemployment and subsequent unemployment claims were abnormally high, and the state did not have the funds to pay unemployment benefits. The result is that the state owes the Treasury’s unemployment trust find almost $18 billion, which will have to be financed by increasing taxes on state businesses.

The Golden State is already home to some of the highest tax rates in the country. The top marginal income tax rate is 13.3% and the state sales tax rate is 7.25%, both the highest in the nation. It has the fifth highest overall state and local tax burden in America…

Compounding the burden on residents, California’s elected officials have relentlessly pushed the state towards unreliable and expensive “green” energy, leaving Californians with the sixth highest cost of electricity in the country, about 80% higher than the national average. So, after being taxed to death, residents are faced with a higher cost of living. No wonder people are leaving California at a record rate.

Is there anything Democrats won’t try to blame on Trump?

Maybe he needs to get Joe to tell them to “knock it off” with the fleeing of CA.
He defeated Covid, btw.

Gavin typically blames every negative event that happens in California on “climate change”. For instance – if hobos start a massive wildfire by making a campfire during a 30 knot windstorm – he blames climate change. It’s the leftist-progressive way of saying “insh’allah,” the athiestic version of “god willed it.” Which of course grants Newsom freedom from responsible behavior.

What would the Democrats do without have Trump to blame for their reckless decisions ? What happened to Harry Trumans the Buck Stops Here?

The former President has cost us numbers leaving our state because we know our state is in a state of stress, and we understand the needs and desires of that state as well as the status and future of our state,

I don’t believe the state or our state can be stated any better than the needs we have already stated.

Why aren’t we hearing about or seeing coverage of illegal border crossers in California? Why is it always Texas and Arizona?

Because there’s a wall between CA and MX.

The border issue isn’t made up. It just doesn’t affect CA like it does other border states.

This is an important point that the right should be making more often. California is blessed with a very short border with Mexico, and it is walled off.

There are several elementary schools in the City of San Diego that have been said to be 100% the children of illegal aliens. They are for a fact speaking english as a second language.

The Gentle Grizzly in reply to Valerie. | September 22, 2022 at 11:35 am

At least they are speaking English.

True, considering that everything has to have a Spanish translation.

We have a lot of children here who are anchor babies with illegal parents. They aren’t typically my best students, but they are all solid students. I don’t have a single one that has trouble with English. The only real trouble we get out of this issue (other than parent communication, which is awkward) is when a little kid (5-6 years old) shows up without a parent and speaks some version of Mayan.

Safeway/Albertsons moved their headquarters from SF to Boise years before Trump ran. My sis went with the job and loved getting out of Alameda and into a sane world

Culture shock, to say the least

Note to governors Abbot, Ducey and DeSantis:

Hair-Gel is crying because of losing population. Send ALL of your illegals to Sacramento.

Valerie in reply to CDR D. | September 22, 2022 at 11:02 am

Politicians can get away from Sacramento fairly easily. They have homes and vacation places in other parts of the State. Martha’s Vineyard, for example, is not a place where many people live year-round. It’s a playground. During the summer, illegal aliens should be shipped to the playgrounds where politicians are, rather than a distant city they are currently not visiting.

I can definitely say why 3 families who are not part of any other survey left California for Arizona.

The cost of utilities for a single-family dwelling in California is now at least as much as the mortgage on the home. People who think $15 per hour is a good wage, and who are accustomed to living frugally, cannot afford to live in El Cajon, much less commuting distance from the coast.

The income taxes are on top of that.

California’s irrational COVID policies have crushed small businesses of all sorts, and ruined the education of students at all levels, not to mention endangered the health of its citizens.

None of this has anything to do with national politics or Donald Trump. It’s all local.

This family left the Sierra foothills 18 months ago for South Utah. Hot as hell here for months on end. AC runs constantly in daylight hours… Housing costs rival CA, but still my utilities are less than $200/mo. — electricity, water, sewer, natural gas, garbage/recycle. State income tax almost 1/3 of CA’s in my bracket (although UT has no brackets… same tax for all.). I miss my horses, but I’m too old to do the associated work, so I will survive. Oh, yeah– no trees around here to speak of, so not big fire danger. I consider it a good move.
Nothing to do with DJT, save he showed that it didn’t have to be like CA.

I know four families who moved when they found out the school district was going to continue remote learning through the 2020/21 school year. Nothing to do with Trump and everything to do with the state’s insane Covid policies.

One family in particular had athletically talented teenagers. If school is closed that means no sports games. No games, no scouts and no chance for scholarships. The family moved to Utah where schools weren’t closed and now both sons have full-ride scholarships. How many young lives has Newsom’s policies ruined? Parents love their kids and try to do what’s best for them. Like move to in-person schooling if they can. Nothing to do with Trump.

I like the draft pick analogy. Let’s explore it. People are required to have a record of prior performance that indicate they can become successful if allowed into the organization. Everyone without a sufficient record is automatically excluded. Those who were initially allowed to participate are excluded when their anticipated level of performance within the organization doesn’t measure up.

Newsom is proposing a return to a modified Bracero style immigration policy where only the most elite performers in their field are invited to participate and when their performance declines they are sent packing. Not sure the immigration advocacy groups will buy that but he can try to work himself out of his trap.

Decades ago, Trump’s dog ate his homework.

Newsome is Maduro without a moustache.

Fat_Freddys_Cat | September 22, 2022 at 12:35 pm

I’m not following Newsome’s argument. What does federal visa policy have to do with people moving from one U.S. state to another?

The world of the political elites is the world they envision and believe they can create through technocracy.

I believe it was Limbaugh that stated “How do you teach a fish about fire?”

The p (olitical) e (elite )’s are “mystified” that we peons (receiver’s of their grace ) cannot perceive the greatness of their humanitarian endeavors.

The peon’s are constantly fed a diet of information designed to keep us reacting to the pe’s narrative.

Like magicians, look at this, but don’t look there, where the real action is underway.

Except more peons are becoming enlightened to this game, which has been in play for centuries.

Newsom’s only goal is to his coronation and the future expanding oppression the pe’s need. All else is blather.

we peons cannot perceive the greatness of their humanitarian endeavors

That’s because their endeavors are so obviously self-interested, and they’re going so full-bore on crushing the system to take it over, that even a 90 IQ Starbucks barista can see what’s happening.

thalesofmiletus | September 22, 2022 at 1:56 pm

People are leaving CA because immigrants can’t get in?

This man is a joke.

Don’t whine about people leaving California. Just get on the phone and tell Abbott to bus some migrants to you to make up the difference.

While we are shipping illegals to California. we should be walling it in, and the eventually conduct line drives forcing them to go south.

Greasy Newsolini is totally out of his depth. His incompetent governance has run the Golden State into the ground, and, now, in his narcissism and imperial arrogance, he seeks to do the same to the U.S.

These Dumb-o-crat apparatchiks really are simply vile. Stacey Abrams, Occasional-Cortex, Newsom; every last one of them. Manifestly dumb-as-rocks, ignorant, useless and mendacious, yet, perennially holding court as though their opinions represent sagacity and deserve to be treated with deference. With the mainstream media lapdogs/sycophants/courtiers drooling over their every word. Nauseating.

I have relatives who speak those names in reverential tones. But, my siblings also live on a steady diet of “All the news you need to know.” They won’t question anything. Sad.

It’s not Trumps fault. I blame everyone in all the red states for living such good lives that others want to come and join them making the liberals look have extra sadness that is common in California today.

Evidently he’s confident that the public school system is successfully indoctrinating and churning out the kind of mindless SJW drones who will take what he, and the Dem corporate media propaganda machine, says seriously.

Because it’s ridiculous on its face.

How many fingers, Winston?

Marxists: taking everything but the blame since 1851.

California lost about 182,000 residents in 2020. You hear that DeSantis and Abbot? Time to man up and help Gov Hair Gel out with that.

This Democrat governor Newsom,
His policies truly are gruesome.
California’s rules
Are made for common fools,
While Newsom’s done broken a few-some!

This typical liberal grump
Blames all of his troubles on Trump.
From when folks exit make
To the next big earthquake.
Poor Newsom! He’s really a chump!
