This is shocking. The incivility on display here should have no place in higher education.

Persecuting a Pro-Israel Scholar

A white DePaul University professor mocked her black Jamaican-born colleague Jason D. Hill, claiming he came from a “shit-hole” country after Hill wrote an op-ed expressing support for the state of Israel.

The smear may be shocking to some but it’s just another day on an American university campus nowadays. To the academic Left, supporting Israel is arguably the worst thing anyone can do. Backing the Jewish state is an unforgivable sin in their eyes.

To these people, saying anything good about Israel is a crime against humanity. They believe that perpetrators of such thought crimes need to be made examples of and punished with the utmost severity.

So that’s what they did to Hill, a Shillman Journalism Fellow at the David Horowitz Freedom Center, and author of several books, including What Do White Americans Owe Black People? Racial Justice in the Age of Post-Oppression (Emancipation Books, 2021) and We Have Overcome: An Immigrant’s Letter to the American People (Bombardier Books, 2018). Hill is currently writing another book, Man Haters: the Left’s Vicious Campaign to Emasculate Men and Boys, which will be published next year.

The attacks on Hill were launched even though leftist thinking dictates he should enjoy triple-protected status because he checks three boxes on the all-important intersectional checklist: he’s black, gay, and an immigrant. But he is not beyond scrutiny in the woke world because he holds the wrong views on Israel and its right to exist, an issue that is at the apex of the leftist hierarchy of hatred.

The “shit-hole country” slander came as leftists at DePaul University in Chicago launched a vicious vendetta against tenured philosophy professor Hill after he wrote a column, “The Moral Case For Israel Annexing The West Bank—And Beyond,” that was published in The Federalist on April 16, 2019.

In the opinion piece, Hill wrote that “Israel has the moral right to annex all of the West Bank (even Area C) for a plethora of reasons.”

Hill questioned the idea that there can be such a thing as “legitimate ‘Palestinian Territory’ in a geographic region legally seized in a defensive war instigated by a foreign aggressor.”

Just more of the systemic racism on campus…..against anyone with an opposing opinion.

Tolerance indeed.

The veneer of moral superiority and “anti racism” is nanometers thick on these Pali supremacists.

I just read Hill’s essay at The Federalist. Unfortunately, it is claptrap. He suggests that Arabs living in the West Bank should have been declared “illegal occupants”, and possibly expelled to “their original political homeland: Jordan.”

The Arab population of the West Bank were there before Israel’s 1948 founding, or were displaced there in 1948 from other areas of Mandatory Palestine. The only connection any of them ever had to Jordan was Jordan’s seizure of the area in 1948, which no other country ever formally recognized.

Israel has the right to exist; if for no other reason, to house the Jews expelled from Arab countries after 1948 – who far outnumbered the Arabs displaced in 1948, and whose descendants are a majority of Israeli Jews.

Israel had the right to take the West Bank and Gaza in 1967, because these territories were used by hostile armed forces attacking Israel.

Israel has the right to military occupation of these territories, in the absence of peace with sovereign governments of them. Egypt and Jordan have renounced sovereignty over Gaza and the West Bank, ceding their claims to the “Palestinian Authority”. Israel has tried to make peace with the PA, but the PA refuses; therefore the military occupation continues.

(Israel withdrew from Gaza, but Hamas took over there and attacks Israel. Similar attacks would happen if Israel withdrew from the West Bank.)

Israel could annex the West Bank with its population, but that would bring hundreds of thousands of hostile Arabs into Israel’s political system. But Israel does not have the right, either legal or moral, to remove West Bank Arabs en masse. That is a position only a handful of extreme Zionists have ever taken, and which all Israeli governments have rejected. Like the French reactionaries who were plus royaliste que le roi, Hill is more Zionist than Israel.

I don’t know how Professor Hill arrived at that position; but doing so has exposed him to legitimate criticism. His Leftist critics would very likely attack him with comparable venom for much less questionable views. But as it stands, he’s not a genuine martyr.

But he is entitled to his position, and should be answered much as you did above, rather than going the slanderous, potentially racist route.

The prime reason to emigrate from a country is because it IS a shihdt-whole.
