NY Times Thinking The Unthinkable: “Cannibalism Has A Time And Place”

Column explores whether people have the stomach for it. Comment: “Soylent Green was supposed to be a cautionary tale, not an instruction manual”

America Last Democrats are doing their level best to destroy America. They are attacking our institutions, our societal belief systems, our culture, our God, our Constitution, and our very way of life.

Lately, their occasional war on air conditioning has again taken center stage (they run with this every few years) because climate.  But it’s always some technological or scientific advancement that they attack and wish to roll back or outright ban . . . in the name of “progress.” Orwell would be proud.

From planes, to cows, to cars, to drinking straws, to air-conditioning, to single-family homes, the left has consistently waged war on human advancement. They want everyone living in government-run tiny towns composed of shacks with tiers of pull-down beds and that get their energy, when they get it at all, from wind and solar.  Then everyone will be motivated to get out there and farm or build or do whatever menial job they are assigned by the government before going back to their housing cubicle for a nice mug of government-provided mead and a bowl of gruel.

I’m exaggerating, of course, but not by much.

What new horrors do they have in store for us? Well, cannibalism, of course.  What better way to feed the masses than to feed them the masses, presumably the “good” unwashed get to consume the “bad” ones.

In the New York Times Style section, some writer posted a column about cannibalism in popular culture. Okay. Interesting.

But then, because it’s the radical left and they just can’t help themselves, the article posits that cannibalism has moved from “unthinkable” to “thinkable” due to “the pandemic, climate change, school shootings and years of political cacophony.”

From the NY Times (archive link):

But as [Bill Schutt’s] book documents, cannibalism has occurred around the world throughout history, lending these fictional tales a queasy whiff of “what if?”

Historical examples in the book include “mumia,” a practice of using ground-up mummified bones to soothe various ailments that was popular in 17th-century Western Europe; the infamous Donner Party pioneers who became trapped in the Sierra Nevada in 1846; ritual cannibalism that took place in Papua New Guinea until the 1950s; and famine-induced cannibalism in China in the 1960s.

[. . . . ]

‘The Unthinkable’

As to what may be fueling the desire for cannibalism stories today, Ms. Lyle, the “Yellowjackets” co-creator, said, “I think that we’re obviously in a very strange moment.” She listed the pandemic, climate change, school shootings and years of political cacophony as possible factors.

“I feel like the unthinkable has become the thinkable,” Ms. Lyle said, “and cannibalism is very much squarely in that category of the unthinkable.”

Apparently, this is really a proposal.

I can’t say I’m surprised. When I saw the first calls to ban air-conditioning, I knew they would stick with it and we’d be hearing about it for years. This will be the same thing, just like the push for sexualizing children has moved from the fringe Man-boy “love” association to the K-12 classroom.

As you can imagine, people had thoughts.

So, TO SERVE MAN really is a leftist cookbook.

I do hope the significance of this is lost with the passage of time

You know, I’ve always heard the Left will eventually eat their own, but I never imagined they would take that literally.

Peabody in reply to georgfelis. | July 24, 2022 at 9:05 pm

No, they won’t eat their own. They want to eat us.

First it was eating bugs, now they’re promoting eating people.

They’re trying to prepare their readership for when us flyover rubes stop sending them food.

      Yep. They have a saying.
      “Eat the Rich”

If you’ve ever read the novel The Road or seen the movie of the same name you will know that cannibalism is no picnic, but maybe the left is mistaking cannabis for cannibals.

In the 1930’s when the Soviets were trying to starve Ukraine into submission – things reached a point where they actually printed up posters in Ukrainian that said – “Parents, do not eat your children.”

That is the truth about where Leftists lead the world. And, yes, the NYT knew it was taking place and shamefully refused to report it.

ColBill in reply to georgfelis. | July 25, 2022 at 9:15 am

First, Republicans; second, conservatives; third, moderates; then their own.

Bernie, Liz, AOC, and Pressley will write the cookbook.

Peabody in reply to ColBill. | July 25, 2022 at 1:01 pm

They prefer conservatives, They taste good, have lots of good meat and very little waste.

Liberals and moderates look good, but inside they are full of nasty shit and very little is worth eating.

If it’s you or me, then I choose you, on account of you not being me.

How come any drooling person slobbering on their etch-a-sketch makes a living is a mystery to me.

I used to be in the business of, how shall I put this, actually doing sh**. Still am.

We need to start going to antifa/#BLM protests and start pulling down masks and taking pics. Don’t ever hire this scum.

NYT: “Cannibalism has a time and a place”

.
A. Peri 2017 “The War Within: Diaries From the Siege of Leningrad” https://www.hup.harvard.edu/catalog.php?isbn=9780674971554

From a .uk review
“The German army surrounded the city just 11 weeks after invading Russia, and what followed was a slow spiral into starvation.

One of the earliest signs of starvation was that both boys and girls started growing facial hair. Adults suffered physiological changes too, with men becoming impotent and women’s menstrual cycles either becoming irregular or stopping altogether. Ration cards, given by the struggling Soviet government offered only meagre supplies, forcing many parents to abandon their children and others to steal from the dead.

One young girl wrote that her father was so hungry he ate their dog. And it wasn’t just animals. Approximately 1,500 Leningraders were arrested for cannibalism during this time.

According to historian Guy Walters, the Russian language distinguishes between two types: the first type refers to eating the flesh of a corpse – someone already dead. The second type refers to eating a human being one has killed for the express purpose of nourishment. Not only did both occur in Leningrad, but there were parents who fed their children human flesh.

A diary entry by Alexandra Mironova tells of a family called the Kaganovs, who engaged in cannibalism. Though she tried to take the children to an orphanage, they “did not want to leave their uncooked meat”.

Despite people being malnourished, both men and women engaged in prostitution, selling themselves for food.”

Great. Fry-up Michelle Obama and Stacey Adams, and we’ll feed a city. extra sauce.

The New York Times is endorsing cannibalism. OK. Consider that there are limited points of access from the outside world to NYC. Consider further that on average an urban area only has a three day supply of food in warehouses and stores. Probably less in NYC due to the overwhelming population density. New York pantries are not known for holding a large amount of food for emergencies.

If something would happen to that access, and that due to either an inability to pay or an inability to transport food it became impossible to refill the city’s food stock supply chain . . . what would it be like starting on say day five or six? Especially noting the ethnic divisions in the city where they do not consider each other to be fully human? Note the “rule of three’s”. A person can live 3 minutes without air, three days without water, and three weeks without food.

And those who run things seem to believe that they will be consuming those they consider to be their lessers, instead of being the day’s Blue Plate Special.

I’ll leave this here to see if it triggers further discussion.

Don’t let that column fool you the elites are still trying to force you to eat bugs.

The mainstream media shilling for d/prog is nothing new. They helped hide, excuse and cover for Biden during n the campaign. They have done their best to defend and deflect criticism of his policy record but talking up cannibalism as possibility seems like a true jump the shark moment.

No, it shouldn’t be lost but pasted to the Democrats who are Godless satanists

healthguyfsu | July 24, 2022 at 10:53 pm

I think they are trying to normalize cannibalism to normalize the way that the vulturous factions of the Dem party are picking at each other’s corpses right now.

I am surprised that no one commented on whether or not this was keto or paleo diet friendly. Nutritionally, this has dubious value.

Human rites, final rites, a wicked solution, performed for social, redistributive, clinical [cannibalism], political, and fair weather causes. Lose your Pro-Choice ethical (i.e. relativistic, selective) religion.

If America gets short on fuel, keep in mind tha incredible amounts of energy tied up inside New York skyscrapers. Especially ones full of giant rolls of newsprint.

This evil has been circulating for a number of years. A decade ago we stopped listening to NPR’s Splendid Table when Lynne Rossetto Kasper did an approving segment on cannibalism.

…just don’t say anything about utilizing the 2A when they chase you down to “harvest” your nutritional value.

The NYT is an expensive Twitter page that peddles disgusting and sick articles together with the woke agenda of systemic racism. gender fluidity and climate change

This idea makes me retch.

After proffering all of these manifestly idiotic, callous and retrograde conceits, it would seem a good moment in time to remind the self-styled, self-congratulatory “Progressives” and “Liberals” that their chosen, narcissistic monikers are totally inapposite, and, that they are more accurately and fairly characterized as totalitarian “Regressives” and “Dumb-o-crats.”

This article is a trial balloon.
