LA County DA Gascón Closing Unit That Tells Victims of Assailant’s Parole Hearings

“Gascon’s office confirmed the move to Fox News, saying that notifying the victims can be ‘triggering’ to them, that it bogs down resources…”

Sources told Fox News that embattled Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascón will close a unit responsible for telling victims about their assailant’s parole hearing.

Gascón’s office confirmed the “Lifer Unit” will end by the end of 2022:

The Parole Unit, also known as the “Lifer Unit,” will be disbanded by the end of the year. The move comes after Gascon has banned prosecutors from attending parole hearings.

Gascon’s office confirmed the move to Fox News, saying that notifying the victims can be “triggering” to them, that it bogs down resources, and that ultimately, it is the responsibility of the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation.

“While a victim has a right to be notified, they also have a right NOT to be contacted,” Gascon’s office said in a statement. “Lawyers in the parole unit have been using Victim Service Representatives, paralegals, and Bureau of Investigation resources to contact victims and their next of kin who have not requested to be notified of parole hearings.”

The office said its attorneys are “needed in line operations to prosecute cases as we are greatly understaffed.”

Deputy District Attorney Julianne Walker condemned Gascón’s move:

Deputy District Attorney Julianne Walker has criticized the disbanding, saying Victim Service Representatives “are not lawyers and do not understand the legalities of the parole hearing.”

“Their skills are providing emotional support and services,” Walker told Fox News. “Gascon continually puts forth ‘services’ as if he is protecting their ‘rights.’ He is not. He is abandoning their constitutional rights and thinks a band-aid of some type of service like counseling will make up for his refusal to protect their rights.”

“What Gascon wants to do is he wants to make it so that not only the next of kin are unaware of these parole hearings, but he wants to make sure that prosecutors and district attorney’s offices don’t hear about them either,” Los Angeles Deputy District Attorney John Lewin said. “When that happens, that means that (Gascon) and his public defender cronies can, in essence, do what they’re doing in the dark, and no one will ever know.”

Gascón might not be in office for much longer, though. A group working to recall Gascón has the number of signatures needed to put the recall on the ballot.

What a scum bag. He clearly wants there to be no one to object to the release of a person convicted of a terrible crime.

He has to get them out in time to vote Democrat in the election…

Never Give A Sucker an Even Break

In the view of leftists victims are suckers for allowing themselves to be attacked by one of the Democrat Party’s operatives, namely, a criminal.

Gascon should be tarred and feathered. Here in Philadelphia that’s the very least of what should be done to Larry Krasner.

Gascon only cares about perpetrators of crime not their victims

“The suspect was paroled just two months before after serving two years on a 40 year sentence for good behavior”…is a common thread these days in crimes committed against the innocent. Yet Parole Boards are never held accountable when one of their “releases” commits another heinous crime. And it’s rampant. Now with Dem strongholds having released violent criminals out under the massively moronic/purposeful excuse “to keep them safe from Covid”, was purely designed to generate anarchy and chaos. And it’s working.

This clown knows exactly what he’s doing: Anarchy in the streets is the goal.

California has had a Marsy’s Law on the books for more than a decade. Prosecutors are required to notify victims about all parole hearings

here’s hoping gascon’s last words are something along the lines of “don’t shoot ! i got you a lighter sentence and an early release ! “

“The office said its attorneys are “needed in line operations to prosecute cases as we are greatly understaffed.”

I eagerly look forward to your personal unstaffing, as soon as possible..

I understand that the California Constitution requires notice–he should be sued immediately; and if the voters don’t recall him, there is no hope for California.

Keep your girls close and your 10 year-old girls closer. Boys, too, with social progress.

The word ‘evil’ is often bandied about. But this guy truly is evil, as is the Soros DA in NY who indicted the shopkeeper defending his life with first degree murder.

Then there is the devil himself : Soros. And then there are his deciples, Bill Gates et al.

Letting criminals out fancy free into the world is a great idea ?
Criminals are the Marxists best friends

Pin some cases such as dv it’s required by law to notify the victims.

You guys all have it wrong. We should be celebrating the idea that the California corrections departments have finally found the Holy Grail of state incarceration. Inmates are taking the lessons of prison to heart and changing their behavior. Everybody’s “cured.”

Recidivism? What recidivism?

We prosecutors in Philadelphia were in deep doodoo if we didn’t contact family members for important post-conviction court proceedings. Don’t know if it’s still the same now that Krasner has been in office for four years but it’s so jarring to see an elected District Attorney waive off the importance of letting family know. In my experience they ALWAYS appreciated being notified. People almost universally want to know that they and their victimized loved ones have not been forgotten.
