After Attacking Florida, Gavin Newsom Now Setting His Sights on Texas

In a blatant attempt to raise his profile for 2024, California Governor Gavin Newsom has been engaging in an unprovoked attack on Florida recently. The second part of his plan is to go after Texas, apparently.NBC News reports:

California Gov. Gavin Newsom goes after Abbott in Texas on guns and abortionCalifornia Gov. Gavin Newsom is running full-page ads in Texas newspapers Friday trolling Republican Gov. Greg Abbott to highlight a new California gun law modeled on the Lone Star State’s restrictive abortion law.The ads, first shared with NBC News, will run in the Austin American-Statesman, Houston Chronicle and El Paso Times. They modify an Abbott quote about the state’s abortion ban and promote “California’s answer to Texas’ perverse bill.”“If Texas can ban abortion and endanger lives, California can ban deadly weapons of war and save lives. If Governor Abbott truly wants to protect the right to life, we urge him to follow California’s lead,” the ad reads. The move is the latest example of Newsom’s foray into national politics after buying TV ads in Florida knocking GOP Gov. Ron DeSantis and decrying Democratic timidity while in Washington last week. It’s also sure to fuel further speculation that the Democratic governor, who is expected to cruise to re-election this fall, is laying the groundwork for a possible presidential run.

That line about “Democratic timidity” speaks volumes as to what this is all really about. Democrats see Biden as weak, and Newsom is trying to portray himself as a tough guy. It’s so obvious and weak.

Newsom is going to show Texas how things are done by enacting more gun control in California.

Townhall reports:

Newsom to Sign Gun Control Bill Modeled After Texas’ ‘Heartbeat’ Abortion BanPro-abortion California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) announced Friday that he is signing a first-of-its-kind gun control law modeled after a Texas law that bans abortions in the state after fetal heartbeat detection.Newsom’s announcement comes one month after two major Supreme Court rulings pertaining to gun control and abortion. In the abortion case, Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, the Court overturned landmark case Roe v. Wade, which legalized abortion in all 50 states in 1973 (via Associated Press):

His action comes one month after conservative justices overturned women’s constitutional right to abortions and undermined gun control laws in states including California.Newsom stitched the two hot-button topics together in approving a law allowing people to sue anyone who distributes illegal assault weapons, parts that can be used to build weapons, guns without serial numbers, or .50 caliber rifles. They would be awarded at least $10,000 in civil damages for each weapon, plus attorneys fees.“While the Supreme Court rolls back reasonable gun safety measures, California continues adding new ways to protect the lives of our kids,” Newsom said in a statement released before he signed the bill. “California will use every tool at its disposal to save lives, especially in the face of an increasingly extreme Supreme Court.”

That’ll show Texas who’s boss.

It’s too bad Newsom doesn’t have any time left to focus on the many troubling crime problems in his own state.
