Soccer Star Megan Rapinoe Dismisses Parents’ Concerns Over Trans Athletes: ‘Your Kid’s Volleyball Team Just Isn’t That Important’

“I would also encourage everyone out there who is afraid someone’s going to have an unfair advantage over their kid to really take a step back and think what are we actually talking about here”

After the recent decision by FINA to restrict trans athletes from women’s sports, women’s soccer star Megan Rapinoe voiced support for trans athletes competing with women during an interview.

She essentially dismissed the concerns of parents, to no one’s surprise.

Amanda Prestigiacomo reports at the Daily Wire:

Megan Rapinoe Tells Girls, Parents To Suck It Up Over Trans Athletes: ‘Your Kid’s’ ‘Volleyball Team Just Isn’t That Important’

Soccer superstar and political activist Megan Rapinoe argued in an interview published Sunday that female athletes and their parents need to suck it up over advantages biologically male transgender athletes might have over girls.

The forward told Time magazine she is “100% supportive” of “trans inclusion” in girls sports, dismissing concerns about fairness while emphasizing that people “need to understand that sports is not the most important thing in life.”

Rapinoe also argued that high-level sports are all about “regulation,” which the athlete apparently believes can erase trans athletes’ advantages. A recent study published in the British Journal of Sports Medicine suggests that’s not true.

“I would also encourage everyone out there who is afraid someone’s going to have an unfair advantage over their kid to really take a step back and think what are we actually talking about here,” the 36-year-old said. “We’re talking about people’s lives. I’m sorry, your kid’s high school volleyball team just isn’t that important.”

One has to wonder if Rapinoe would feel the same way if she was the one being pushed out of the spotlight she so obviously enjoys.

Rapinoe vastly overestimates her popularity and influence.

The sandwich chain Subway was using her in a line of TV spots last year that caused a flood of complaints from franchise owners who claimed that the national anthem-kneeling athlete was hurting their bottom line.

The New York Post reported last August:

Subway franchisees are fed up with Megan Rapinoe’s TV ads

Megan Rapinoe kicked up another round of controversy at the Tokyo Olympics — and now a group of Subway franchisees are pressuring the fast-food giant to give her the boot.

The 36-year-old, purple-haired soccer star — who kneeled ahead of a match before leading the United States to a bronze medal this week — began a stint as a pitchwoman for the fast-food giant this spring.

In one spot, Rapinoe — who has been a vocal proponent of equal rights and equal pay for women — knocks a burrito out of a guy’s hands by kicking a soccer ball at him.

The response has been mixed, according to franchisees. Late last month on a discussion forum hosted by the North American Association of Subway Franchisees, a Wisconsin store operator posted a picture of a hand-scrawled note from an irate customer taped to the front door of his shop.

“Boycott Subway until Subway fires the anti-American … Megan Rapinoe, the creep who kneels for our beloved National Anthem!” the note read.

“The ad should be pulled and done with,” the franchisee wrote of the Rapinoe spot. “It gets tiring apologizing.”

People are tired of being bomabarded by all things woke in everything from sports to advertising.

It’s a good thing Rapinoe is at the end of her career.

“… national anthem-kneeling athlete was hurting their bottom line..” Kneeling and bottom, somewhere in that passage sits …. sits a joke?

Isn’t she/he masculine enough without purpling her hair to demonstrate the fact?

How queer the rainbow, how infinitely rare, does purple even display itself, does God Himself display it in the. scattered, evanescent, prismed splits of hot white light?

No. The bottom slice is violet, not purple, red and blue forever estranged, immiscible in God’s headlights.

artichoke in reply to thetaqjr. | June 22, 2022 at 4:48 pm

I thought of hair color as a feminine thing, not masculine. If a boy did colored his hair purple that would seem effeminate to me.

Rapinoe is a finesse player, lots of ball skills and outsmarting the opponents, unlike some of the women soccer players who play ugly and just outmuscle the opposing women. I didn’t like her kneeling but I did like watching her soccer.

I heard she’s a lesbian, but she doesn’t have a parcticularly masculine look or soccer playing style.

healthguyfsu in reply to artichoke. | June 23, 2022 at 12:15 pm

What planet are you on where she doesn’t have a masculine look?

        She’s Martina in shin guards.

artichoke in reply to healthguyfsu. | June 23, 2022 at 9:43 pm

OK fine whatever. And there’s no dispute I know of that Martina is also a born biological female. People in this thread are equating lesbians (born female) with transgenders (born male) and using it to imply that Rapinoe stands to benefit from the inclusion of transgenders, maybe that she’s transgender herself. They won’t say it but they sort of edge into it. And that’s garbage; there’s nothing self-serving that I can see in her comments. She’s a person with an opinion like all the rest of us.

As for her look, her forehead slopes back and she has no adam’s apple, which are immutable female characteristics, she wears her hair short which may by typically lesbian but it’s very mutable. That’s what I see. Maybe I’m better at this than you are. During college I had a summer job in Chicago and the cheap apartment I rented happened to be near where some crossdressers would appear at night. Broad shoulders, adam’s apple, long hair, loads of makeup and lipstick.

artichoke in reply to chrisboltssr. | June 22, 2022 at 4:42 pm

There are probably several lesbians on that team. At least 40 years ago, women’s volleyball had quite a few lesbians. Does that bother you?

Gosport in reply to artichoke. | June 23, 2022 at 8:59 pm

Nice strawman but the issue in question isn’t about lesbians, it’s about a particular aging lesbian soccer player promoting men participating in women’s sports (for whatever their reasons).

artichoke in reply to Gosport. | June 23, 2022 at 9:36 pm

Wrong. I was replying to a post by thetaqjr that was about gay symbolism and such. I did not write a strawman, but a substantive reply. If you have a problem with the topic, take it up with thetaqjr or whatever it replied to, etc.

It was actually worse than that. The USWNT lost to a Dallas FC club of U16 members. At least a third of the team was middle schoolers in a tune up in which the USWNT played all but one starter.

The “boys” were bigger, stronger and faster. The FC Dallas team was dominate.

      Joe-dallas in reply to Grant’sGhost. | June 22, 2022 at 11:14 am

following up on Grant’s comment –

      1) In the mid/late 1970’s, the US womens volleyball team had an informal scrimmage match against ad hoc mens team from the DFW metroplex. A couple house rule modifications to make the game competitive, A) no men over 5’9″, B) no men hitting in front of the 10′ line.

      2) there is a husband / wife cyclists in the DFW area, both of which are highly respected and well liked among the cycling community. The husband is ranked in the top 1,000-1,200 in the world while the wife is ranked in the top 10-15 women in world. Obviously , both very fast, though the husband is much faster.

The point of Grant’s and my comment is that there is a considerable physical advantage in sports for being male.

artichoke in reply to henrybowman. | June 22, 2022 at 4:40 pm

She’s trying to make the teams a little better. Penn’s women’s swim team was better this year because of their trans athlete. I agree about women’s soccer getting equal pay but it’s not my money they’re getting (or is it?) — but then why ridicule something that could reduce the insanity?

The best men’s soccer players will go play in Europe or Latin America and we won’t have a shot at the World Cup in the future either.

Did Rapinoe understand that her statement undermined women’s athletics? If HS level girls sports and the youth leagues which feed into HS girls sports aren’t important then why are we paying for them? Does she hold a similar viewpoint about women’s sports at the collegiate level? We already know she won’t allow the objective voice of the market determine a hierarchy of importance and worth.

artichoke in reply to CommoChief. | June 22, 2022 at 4:33 pm

We probably don’t pay that much for girls’ sports, anyway in HS if more boys than girls want to participate, we can have more positions and sports for boys, making the funding follow the student. But the colleges have to spend vast amounts they can’t afford for Title IX or they’re not even allowed to have varsity sports for boys, scholarship or not.

Granted Rapinoe benefited from this terrible system (good for her but why did we have to pay for her sports opportunities), but if she can push back against it, she can do some good.

I don’t blame her for using the opportunities she had from the current system while in school and college. Anyone would have. It’s up to adults, not students, to get rid of or fix programs that have become ridiculous like Title IX.

SeekingRationalThought | June 21, 2022 at 6:29 pm

I’m sure that the rather dense and narcissitic Ms. Rappinoe will be shocked when she finally figures out that she just isn’t very important to anyone, including high school girls volley ball players. The young can forgive error but seldom forgive adults who betray them.

Not that important? Yet she thinks that her overly loud and grossly underachieving international soccer team is?

She may be getting too old for soccer but she has years left to find an All-Ugly Team to join.

Rapin’ Ho is a real peach, isn’t she?

Is anyone still listening to the pink haired chihuahua???

Seriously, if parents should just “suck it up”, then let’s end male & female sports. Let’s let the sexes compete competitively on the field together as one. YouTube is full videos about how that will end!

Even men’s sports don’t seem important to me, but I’m pretty sure that women’s sports, which ranks lower than that, ranks ahead of transgender athletes.

Jazzizhep in reply to rhhardin. | June 22, 2022 at 12:09 am

You haven’t spoken to many neo-Marxist, eh? Transgenderism is really, really important. It is one of the most important topics of our day that effects less than 1% of the population. Divide and conquer, mate!

Of course the media and academia fool another 25% into thinking it is important.

Ultimately, this is about who gets Title IX funding. Title IX basically put a bunch of money into girls’ sports scholarships, in order to keep the college football train going.

If guys can dip into that pool by claiming to be women, they can vacuum up a lot of that money, while also giving the school easy wins in competitions. It’s not like steroid abuse isn’t a thing in men’s sports either.

artichoke in reply to Voyager. | June 22, 2022 at 4:27 pm

It also makes the collegiate sports naturally more equal numerically. Title IX imposes numerical equality, which almost always results in lots and lots of those girls’ scholarships, quite an incentive to play the sport in college even if you don’t care that much about it, while the boys can’t even get their sports.

So it could end up reducing “Title IX money” and make the overall thing cost less, which colleges desperately need these days. Title IX costs them a fortune they can’t afford.

Definitely not in this case where transgenders will be competing against females at other institutions.

I doubt she’ll be on any future WC or Olympic teams, so she won’t be the one to suffer for her stated beliefs.

“Fairness”, though, is the wrong word to be using. Nobody cares that the 6’3″ guy destroys the 5’6″ guy in just about any sport, but make the 5’6″ guy female and suddenly a large biological advantage is “unfair”?

artichoke in reply to Valerie. | June 22, 2022 at 4:23 pm

This is the way to do it. Soccer is not particularly a contact sport like wrestling, so rather than segregating by sexual equipment or stated gender identification, have co-ed soccer by, say, weight class. That gets rid of the whole issue.

In a sense, we all are midgets.

There was a study came out last week (or so) that found a correlation between dying your hair an unnatural color and poor mental health.

Then let’s end the controversy and do away with women’s sports and men’s sports. Let’s just have “sports,” let everyone compete for a spot on the team.

Rapinoe is transgender, if only in sexual orientation. That said, don’t look behind the curtain.

By that standard, half or more of many women’s soccer teams would be “transgender” — but actually they’re not, they’re lesbian, which is different from transgender. But you knew that.

Re: the importance of Volleyball teams, hmm, I guess in the grand scheme of things, they are not really hugely important. But as the participant ages, they become less important. So for High School the team’s importance is not as important as, say the participants’ academic achievements for example. Whereas for the importance of Rapinoe’s team members, they are almost as important as the flea bite on my dog’s ass.

A single transgender athlete is not nearly as important as everyone else on the team.

What a piece of crap she is.

Interested Party | June 21, 2022 at 11:06 pm

What about the scholarships that can help determine the girl’s future that she may miss out on due to competing against biological males? That’s earth shatteringly important to that family.

Also, there are probably 100s of 18 year old biological males in the US that, if they changed gender would easily take Rapinoe’s position in the US women’s team.

The scholarships will still be there, the recipients may be different. Is one better than another? Easy for this freak to say after the women’s team fit-throwing milked a bogus “equal pay” settlement out of their soccer association — that has nothing to do with equal pay and everything to do with looting. But not to worry, normal people can ignore women’s soccer secure in the knowledge that their team can be beaten by young boys.

The last sentence is definitely true, and while one may be surprised that Rapinoe is the one delivering the message, the message itself has merit. (1) it’s just sports and (2) it’s not even the best, but a particular class created to select some winners that would not have won. There can be a lot of skill in women’s soccer, which is basically lower powered soccer. It’s more interesting to me than women’s tennis, which is just more boring than men’s.

OT on Sports.

Why can’t the ESPN sportscasters shut the hell up? TV = television = a visual medium. Their “color” guys talk before the play, after the play, over the play. They talk so much, they blind me, I actually look forward to the commercials which at least seem to have purpose.

its delusional to believe that transgender is a biological illness that can be treated biologically.

Those pushing the transgender agenda are basically embracing josef menglee experiments on the mentally ill.

On a plus note, if you actually do want a subway sandwich, there is rarely a line. Even in Portland they are pretty empty these days, which is amazing in that many places are still closed or runnig limited hours. I can only imagine how bad it is for the franchises in places where people more actively act on their values, and let other people know why they are no longer a patron.

On a different, but similar note, the hospitals in Portland must have gotten so ticked off at RedCross that they have now formed their own local blood collection facility. I may give them a try once my own cardiovascular issues are at the point where I am sure that I can push around enough RBC to meet my own extremely local needs.

Rapinoe’s opinion seems to be that trans kids should be allowed to play sports so they don’t commit suicide and their lives are more important than your daughters’ volleyball team.

Non-Spoiler: Time did not ask if that applies to men joining the US National Women’s Soccer Team.

I don’t buy the part about her being greedy because of this. A female athlete’s loss would be a trans athlete’s gain, and why would she care more about one than the other? I’m not aware of a same-sex loyalty pledge, although I know the ultra-feminists continually try to impose one. In either case she played the cards she was given and clawed her way to the top of her women’s sport, taking the spot for herself and excluding many others, as all successful people do.

She should comment on the discrepancy though. Why does she want to deal the cards differently for the next generation?

She’s an activist…their greed fuels their platform of power and influence. She has quite a bit to gain by pushing the leftist envelope.

That’s true of some top level people certainly, like the mansion-owners from BLM. But she got her money the old fashioned way, by a backroom deal that women get the same soccer pay as men. I haven’t seen that she’s more than a front-line troop on the activism front.

Make the team you play on depend on your genetics. If you choose to pretend to be the opposite sex that doesn’t effect the teams you play on.

That seems natural, but it was never enforced as I can recall. No chromosome tests at the Olympics, instead ridiculously forcing athletes to reveal their privates, if that. I guess the genetics argument is a slippery slope, then maybe you could have race specific teams. But this super-simple solution seems to be Kryptonite.

If my kids volleyball team isn’t that important, then why is she trying to force it to accept biological males? So not allowing trans to compete against bio females will negatively impact their lives? I’m supposed to care about that while you are telling me that the negative impact a bio female will suffer because of this doesn’t matter? Really?
