Baby Walt Update: Wild, Very 2, and in Need of Your Prayers

The last time I checked in with a Baby Walt Update was December last year.

If you’re new to Baby Walt (who isn’t really a baby anymore), my son was born with an incredibly rare heart condition. Wasn’t expected to make it through the night. Through what seem like a gazillion obstacles and setbacks, Jesus was there with us. Walter required open heart surgery, but was healed, and his reports have been outstanding and “highly unusual” for his condition.

To fully appreciate the awesomeness of our God and the miracle He has worked in Walter, you can find prior posts here.

Before I get into the medical stuff, the good stuff about my giant baby man — Walter is doing well. SO well. He is huge. Weighs as much as his big sister. Is never without a smile. Truly, the happiest kid I’ve ever seen. He is so good natured and kind. Also wild. Is so very two in the best, worst, and most amazing ways. He can destroy a room in 30 seconds flat. It’s impressive. And finds ways to get into *everything* but has no interest in things that are not horrendously messy and/or calamitous.

He loves to take out the trash, help with the laundry, and “help” feed our growing herds and flocks of animals in what has become our accidental homestead. I’d heard chickens were the gateway livestock. Seems it’s true. He’s especially keen on our bunnies, which he calls “funnies.” The chickens are terrified of him as he’s yet to learn how to gently deal with them, but at least he’s afraid of no animal, which is a great way to grow up. He’s also hilarious and has jokes. So many jokes.

He is a natural caretaker and for being such a little man, is always concerned about my wellbeing and that of his big sister. He’s a sweetheart, if ever there was one. He’s also stubborn as a mule, which he comes by honestly, or so I’m told.

He’s a joy and a delight, as is his big sister. Who is equally as kind, sweet, funny, and exceptionally bright. They are amazing little people and I am humbled and tremendously grateful to be their Momma.

So, the latest on the medical front — A few weeks ago we went to see the cardiologist for Walter’s annual visit. Two of the things they’d repaired during open-heart surgery when Walter was an infant, have grown worse. Nothing is terrible. His vitals are perfect. His health is stellar, overall. It’s just this heart thing. So far, though his heart is malformed, it has continued to function just fine. I went in to the visit thinking we’d get another great report, not at all prepared to be discussing the potential need for more surgery to correct, once more, some of the issues causing his heart not to function as it should.

And so I’m back, asking for your prayers for my son. My little walking miracle. I am standing in faith, thanking Yeshua Hamashiach for healing my son, for the miracle He has already done and the one He will do, once again.

I cannot overstate how faithful the Lord was and has been — remains to be through Walter’s life thus far. Not just Walter’s life, but my own. In every way. Every single obstacle that popped up was dealt with, almost instantly. Every need we had was met with abundance. ALL Glory be unto Adonai who has saved my son and caused him to thrive. I have no doubts Walter will continue to do well and that he will be a walking testimony to the goodness, love, and faithfulness of the Lord of Hosts. All praise to His name.

Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God.” 2 Corinthians 3-4. Seems relevant.

Hebrews 10:23, “Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who promised is faithful.” Always faithful. This verse is with me always and was my plumb line before and has remained so since.

What I wrote in December remains true:

I am humbled to serve a God who is faithful to keep His Word. Who leaves no concern or care unattended. Whose love is so vast and profound that He sacrificed His own son to reconcile us back to Him. And to know the love of His Son who willingly gave His life in our place.During one of the hardest times of my life, so many of you were faithful to pray for us. The Legal Insurrection family is just that — a family. The love, kindness, and support I experienced through that time was truly amazing.

I cherish your prayers. They strengthened me through Walter’s first months with us. Your messages, emails, comments and kindness were incredible support when I and my faith were stretched to the max. When I look back, I never asked the Lord to heal my son, I thanked Him that it was already finished. Finished because of His son. My heart and attitude remain in that place. My faith is stronger now than before. But the process is brutal.

I am heavy-hearted. Typing through tears. To have an infant with such a condition is one thing, to have a wild, active, amazing little toddler facing open-heart surgery is another entirely. The prospect of a life-long affliction is daunting. But my God is so much bigger than all of this. So it’s not with fear and worry that I look to Walter’s next appointment later this year (after all, perfect love casts out fear 1 John 4:18), but I am expecting the report of the Lord. The King of the Universe.

I thank the Lord for you. For the entire Legal Insurrection team. May you be filled with His perfect, complete shalom peace this summer and may His presence abound in your life, in your situations, whatever they may be. That all should work out for the good of those who love Him (Romans 8:28).
