Elon Musk Says He Will Vote Republican for First Time in Upcoming Elections

“I have voted overwhelmingly for Democrats, historically – overwhelmingly. Like I’m not sure, I might never have voted for a Republican, just to be clear”

Elon Musk has been in the news a lot lately, over his ongoing takeover of Twitter, but his recent comments about how he plans to vote in November are sure to generate a lot of buzz as well.

During a recent appearance on a podcast, he said he is planning to vote Republican, possibly for the first time.

Timothy Nerozzi reports at FOX Business:

Elon Musk says he’ll be voting Republican in upcoming election, possibly for first time

Elon Musk says he will be crossing the aisle to vote for Republicans in the upcoming elections.

Musk announced Monday that he would be voting for GOP candidates in the next election cycle after historically backing almost exclusively Democrats. He made the statement on an episode of the All-In Podcast at a Miami tech conference, as first noted by Business Insider.

“I have voted overwhelmingly for Democrats, historically – overwhelmingly. Like I’m not sure, I might never have voted for a Republican, just to be clear,” Musk said on the show. “Now this election, I will.”

The audience reacted to the CEO’s statement vocally with laughter and applause.

“The issue here is that the Democrat party is overly controlled by the unions and by the trial lawyers – particularly the class action lawyers,” Musk explained on the show. “And generally if you see something that is not in the interest of the people on the Democrat side, it’s going to come because of unions – which is just another form of monopoly – and the trial lawyers.”

Watch the clip below:

Musk also took a swing at Biden.

From the Independent:

Elon Musk has compared US President Joe Biden to Anchorman and said he will vote Republican in “this election” despite historically being a Democrat voter.

The billionaire tech founder said Mr Biden was like Anchorman’s Ron Burgundy – who loses his job as a newsreader because he lacks the ability to improvise – during the All-in tech conference in Miami on Monday.

“The real president is whoever controls the teleprompter. The path to power is the path to the teleprompter,” Mr Musk told the conference via Zoom.

“I do feel like if somebody were to accidentally lean on the teleprompter, it’s going to be like Anchorman.”

Here’s that clip:

Musk won’t be the only person voting Republican for the first time.

As President Reagan famously said, ” I didn’t leave the (democrat) party. It left me.

Musk is by no means a conservative, but he loves free speech and is obviously intent on cleaning twitter up.

The news that 50% of biden’s followers are fake should be an eye-opener for the feckless dems. I can hear the liberal tears splashing in congressional offices.

He’s a classical liberal and those are the people whom we need to find common ground with…people who enjoy liberty and tolerate ideological differences. People on both sides of the aisle want the power pendulum to stop swinging like a roller coaster and bang on the walls of the clock every 4 years. It is not that difficult to find a decency and peace in this arena.

Too many on the right (many represented on this site) want to stick their feet in the mud and be the mules that lose elections. They dont’ want to budge from their stance and allow their freedoms to be trampled “on principles”.

Too many on the left (many parodied on this site) want to trample everyone to their way and be the totalikarens that destroy a society. They want to ruin anyone that doesn’t agree with their stance but somehow get all of their tax money and force them to do all of the work in the country for diminished returns.

If the people in the center can come together, we can end this madness, even if we don’t agree with one another. What we need to avoid more than anything is grifters that just want to get rich by moving to the center. There are plenty of those already.

Musk is more of a libertarian though classical liberals also shared respect for debate, free exchange of ideas and free speech. Most of us in the populist right would happily return to an environment where we weren’t constantly labeled is ‘ists’ full of isms’ when not ejected from the modern public square comprising social media.

The left however will not accept free speech. The WH just labeled the entire republican party as domestic extremists and Biden stated he was through with efforts to compromise with Republicans. Whatever else Biden is, he is the leader of the d/prog. None of his actions and language have been even slightly conciliatory or demonstrated a willingness to work together for the benefit of the nation. Instead they choose inflammatory rhetoric and false allegations at every turn.

Respectfully you will need to bring the d/prog back to the center before we proceed. That’s not the center of 2022 with d/prog sprinting to the left and embracing totalitarian tactics but the true political center. People are angry and disenchanted with Biden and the d/prog. Hopefully the d/prog and Biden will be smart enough to recognize the midterm results as a rebuke and will change course by renouncing the politics of tribalism and division.

I concur. I consider myself a classic liberal and never voted for a Republican until Hillary ran for President. I voted for Obama twice, but pretty quickly realized my mistake after he was re-elected and jumped over the leftist cliff.

Abortion is a perfect issue when both sides are polarized, and no one seems to be discussing middle ground. The far right want no abortions at all even if the pregnancy is the result of rape. The far left wants abortions to be legalized up to and PAST the moment of birth. Where are the adults in this discussion?

In the State legislature. The which if the (draft) opinion holds up is exactly where this and many other issues belong under the long neglected notion of Federalism.

Let Mississippi be Mississippi and let Massachusetts be Massachusetts. Different States, different history, different culture, different demographics, different electorates. Allow the States to select a different solution that works for that State.

“Flexibility” is a damn tricky thing.

“The news that 50% of biden’s followers are fake”
    Now do his voters.

I don’t think I’ve voted for a single Dem for the past decade, maybe longer and given the way the party keeps going it’s looking like I won’t for long time. And if the Dems treat Elon he thinks they will over this then odds are he won’t be voting for any Dems for a long time as well.

And if the Dems treat Elon LIKE he thinks they will. Gotta remember to check before you post!

I use my (forced) union’s voter guide to pick my candidates; sanely and reasonably, I reject their all Democrat/socialist recommendations and have voted exclusively Republican, clearly the lesser of two evils.

The Gentle Grizzly | May 18, 2022 at 7:23 pm

See? The African-American vote IS shifting to the GOP.

To misquote Bob Dylan:
You don’t have to be a rocket scientist /
To know which way the shit blows from…

YET… millions continue to vote Democrat, , look at these primaries of late

If they are real votes

“In the past I voted Democrat, because they were (mostly) the kindness party.”

Well, Musk has found a way to make me puke. “kindness party”, sure Elon sure.

henrybowman in reply to Barry. | May 18, 2022 at 9:57 pm

But that IS their brand. “The party of tolerance.”
Loudly self-proclaimed, and amplified by their captive apes in the press.
    “Life goes better with Democrats.”
“Democrats: outstanding… and they are mild.”
“Silly Republican — Democrats are for kids.”
“Let your fingers do the voting.”
The sheeple listen, consume, and comply; listen, consume, comply.

We should extend a bit of grace to those who have found redemption so to speak.

Maybe Twitter (and Facebook etc.) provided the virtual mugging that everyone needed to see straight.

Barry in reply to Dimsdale. | May 19, 2022 at 8:27 pm

I like Musk, always have. I have never thought of him as being any sort of hard core lefty. But if he has been fooled into believing the party of marxists, those murderers of 100+ million, represent kindness, then he is not as bright as reported.

So next I want to see him take a photo with MTG and Lauren Boebert … on on each arm and use it as his profile pic …

Dems were never the kindness party.
