Birth of Abortion Tourism: Chicago To Pay for Pregnant Women to Travel to City for Abortions

Birth of Abortion Tourism: Chicago To Pay for Pregnant Women to Travel to City for Abortions

“We are soldiers. We are soldiers prepared to fight.”

Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot: “We are soldiers. We are soldiers prepared to fight.”

Lightfoot pledged to use $500,000 in public money to make Chicago a “safe haven” for those seeking abortions.

In other words, it could become a safe haven for people like Jeffrey Epstein because in Illinois a minor doesn’t need a parent or guardian’s permission to have an abortion.

I thought abortion is a medical procedure and healthcare. If that’s so then a parent or guardian should be involved because medical personnel cannot do anything to a child, except abortion, without that permission.

Anyway.

Lightfoot said: “We are ready, and we are ready to fight. We are ready to organize. We are ready to do whatever it takes. We will not stand idly by and watch our rights disappear like smoke.”

Anyway, Lightfoot used all the buzzwords possible to justify using public funds for abortions. If we don’t save abortions then they’ll take away all of our other rights:

The money will go toward transportation, lodging, care “and, if necessary, safe and legal access to an abortion procedure,” Lightfoot said.

Lightfoot’s pledge comes after a leaked draft of a Supreme Court ruling previewed the overturning of Roe v. Wade, the landmark abortion rights case. Reiterating a concern she first expressed after the opinion leaked, Lightfoot said the case’s repeal could lead to gay and interracial marriages being outlawed.

“The architects of this destruction will not stop at a woman’s right to choose,” she said in a statement released last week, the day the draft decision was first reported by Politico. “The Court’s draft opinion will establish a precedent for gutting the legal underpinnings used to protect against gender-based discrimination overall including women’s rights, trans rights, immigrant rights, and, of course, the right to same-sex and interracial marriage. This decision truly epitomizes the dangers that exist at the intersection of racism and sexism.”

Lightfoot makes it sound like the pro-life side is making these women’s lives miserable:

“This pledge signals that the City will continue to be a safe haven for all who are unjustly denied the resources and opportunities they deserve; to fight for the rights of all people; and to ensure that no person will be attacked, assaulted, bullied or discriminated against because of who they are, the choices they make regarding their bodily autonomy or who they love,” a news release said.

As it relates to reproductive health, the pledge is to “protect and increase access for all safe reproductive, obstetric and gynecological healthcare regardless of the patient’s age, sex, gender identity, race, disability, sexual orientation, socioeconomic status, place of residence or immigration status in order to support the choices of all people to have or not bear children on their terms.”

Then Lightfoot claimed the only people talking about overturning Roe v. Wade are old white men.

Do I look like an old white male, lady?

I don’t know about you, but I long ago crossed Chicago off my list of places that I ever intend to visit again. This reinforces that decision, and I expect that it will for others.

I like Chicago, and intend to visit again some time when this virus nonsense is past us. I’ve been several times and always had a good time. There are a lot of things to see and do.

But I’m not an unborn baby, so it’s relatively safe for me, if I stick to the right neighborhoods. As I understand it crime there is very localized, terrible in some places and uncommon in others. If I were an unborn baby it would be different, but then again I wouldn’t have any choice in the matter.

    Call it “born privilege”.

The violence in Chicago is everywhere , what is wrong with you?

Milhouse in reply to gonzotx. | May 10, 2022 at 9:25 am

No, it really isn’t. Ask someone who lives there. Chicago, unlike NY, is a very segregated city, and while the average violence level is terrifying, the risk at any one location varies wildly.

JimWoo in reply to Milhouse. | May 10, 2022 at 10:38 pm

Milhouse, you are right we are a very segregated city but thugs have cars. I lived here all my life and I’ve never seen it so bad. Even the suburbs are under assault by the criminals. If you visit, stay near the magnificent mile, visit our world class museums but be in your lodgings before dark. And at the risk of being labelled a racist; the vast majority of crime is committed by young blacks some as young as 13 yrs with guns. Is it racist to tell the truth? I have many black coworkers and friends and they in addition to being more likely victimized; are sick of it. One coworker told me she bought a big screen tv and had to disassemble the box and take it to the town dump because if she had put it out with the weekly trash it would have been stolen from her home before long. Good law abiding black people are being traumatized by the thugs who know that our crime coddling DA Kim Foxx will not hold them accountable.

JimWoo, I’m most likely to stay in West Rogers Park, Rogers Park, or perhaps Lincoln Park. According to the map SHV linked to, those are all safe.

When I’m in Chicago I usually get around by public transport. But it’s been a while since my last visit, and my next one won’t be so quick; I’m not going anywhere if I have to wear a face diaper all the way.

Go ahead and say it racist. Black people in black neighborhoods scare you.

Don’t matter what you call it. As long as you use Richard Nixon’s middle name you’ve got the finest white privilege card there is.

In 1962, I lived in a “Changing” South-East side of Chicago neighborhood.

We moved very quickly after someone beat up my older brother.

For some reason, my parents were selfishly thinking about our safety.

WTFO? It’s not her money. Am I the only one who cares anymore?

Hopefully they won’t find a way for taxpayers to pay for abortions. democrats are evil, deceitful, devious, rotten, corrupt and sneaky.

I bet it will the tax dollars at work….overcharges for service, and the balance kicked back…it is the Chicago way….

    Milhouse in reply to dunce1239. | May 10, 2022 at 12:51 am

What do you mean “find a way”? I”m sure Chicago and Illinois taxpayers already pay for abortions. There’s no reason they wouldn’t be able to do that, so they must have already done so.

Pocono Chuck | May 9, 2022 at 9:26 pm

I wonder what the remaining taxpaying citizens of Chicago – those who haven’t migrated to a Red State – think about them paying outsiders for abortions.

As it is in Europe. It gives script-writers a way to show dramatic indecision, boarding the train to Holland and then getting off again before it leaves Paris.
(Spiral 5:1-2)

Sick people.

As usual: look at the tubs in that picture and you tell me what man would participate in a sex act with any of them.

As usual: the women who will never need an abortion scream and yell about abortion.

The rest of you ladies: beware, because misery loves company.

“This pledge signals that the City will continue to be a safe haven for all who are unjustly denied the resources and opportunities they deserve;”

Except if they arrive on any weekend in Chicago where there are 20-40 shootings and 5-10 murders.

“Do I look like an old white male, lady?”

That was no lady, that was a “wife”.

What a shocker. Who could have predicted such?

“2. Should the predicted result come to pass, the marxist states will pay for women from other states to come there for the baby killing.”

If women cross state lines, doesn’t this become interstate commerce? Thus regulated by Congress.

    Milhouse in reply to thad_the_man. | May 10, 2022 at 12:58 am

They don’t need to actually cross a state line for Congress to regulate it. Under current commerce clause doctrine the mere existence of an interstate market for abortion is enough to allow Congress to regulate it. Which means it could ban abortion nationwide, or it could make it legal nationwide and ban states from banning it. Or anything in between.

Ironclaw in reply to Milhouse. | May 10, 2022 at 2:26 am

Gotta have the votes first, and they don’t. If things go as expected in the upcoming midterms, the pedophile won’t have enough votes to wipe his own azz, not that he does so now.

Milhouse in reply to Ironclaw. | May 10, 2022 at 9:33 am

Indeed. They probably still won’t have the votes to ban it nationwide, but in the future, maybe ten years from now, maybe the votes will be there to ban abortion. If by then the supreme court has reversed Wickard and the commerce clause is no longer available, then Congress might try justifying it under the 14th amendment.

CommoChief in reply to Milhouse. | May 10, 2022 at 12:04 pm

IMO, it would still be a bad idea even ten years from now. Instead let’s return to a reinvigorated Federalism on the culture war issues. By all means end federal tax dollars going to any entity involved in abortion or other hot button issues. That has several benefits.

It lowers the political temp nationally by allowing Mississippi to be Mississippi and Massachusetts to be Massachusetts. People can vote with their feet or work to overcome policies at the State level.

This works to further the great sorting we are engaged in. People are already moving based on other issues; taxes, crime, school curriculum or school choice. The result will allow the laboratories of democracy to generate policy results and easy comparison.

henrybowman in reply to Milhouse. | May 10, 2022 at 2:57 pm

Wickard is a rat’s nest. Complicating the case is the fact that that particular farmer actually signed on to the produce limiting agreement and took the federal money, then violated it. At that point, it easily devolves into simple contract law.

Milhouse in reply to Milhouse. | May 11, 2022 at 1:06 am

let’s return to a reinvigorated Federalism on the culture war issues.

Yeah, but this isn’t a culture war issue. I know Holocaust comparisons are way overdone and usually inappropriate, but this really is directly comparable to the Holocaust. The differences are less significant than the similarities. And this has gone on for 50 years, killing ten times as many. If we ever can stop it, I don’t see how we can justify not doing so.

healthguyfsu | May 10, 2022 at 12:54 am

Wasting other people’s money while in massive debt is what dems do best.

JimWoo in reply to healthguyfsu. | May 10, 2022 at 11:09 pm

Right. Recently we had a gentleman Willie Wilson; a self made multimillionaire who owned a couple of McDonalds restaurants paying for gasoline for people. His own money. Being that hes a potential mayoral candidate, Mayor used tax money to compete with him with gas giveaway of her own. Shes a lunatic; constantly combative with everybody and incapable of managing a lemonade stand.

AnAdultInDiapers | May 10, 2022 at 3:50 am

Even I have to reject offering free holidays in return for having an abortion.

“Lightfoot said: “We are ready, and we are ready to fight. We are ready to organize. We are ready to do whatever it takes. We will not stand idly by and watch our rights disappear like smoke.”

Big words from a person who has entirely failed her primary job of mayor, and yet now wants to take on a second major career as a chamber of abortion commerce. Stay i your lane, woman, you can’t even drive properly in the one you already have.

Pikers. California is way ahead in the race. Not only do they encourage abortions up to the moment of birth, they don’t draw the line there.

“Gov. Gavin Newsom and the State Legislature are offering taxpayer funds to help out-of-state residents obtain abortions, as well as legalizing infanticide through recently amended legislation.”

My tinfoil hat gave me a severe twist reading this. Reviewing the article, I see that no such law has been passed. A bill to this effect has been filed by a politician named “Buffy.” Crackpot bills are filed all the time.

Chicago has to do something to replace the revenue lost by Boeing and other businesses moving out due to crime–I guess this is Lightfoot’s answer to that

“Birth of Abortion Tourism?”

Is that the opposite of Abortion of Birth Tourism?

The Mann act was aimed at prostitution but makes it a crime to transport women across state line for immoral purposes. It seems abortion is very immoral.

Lucifer Morningstar | May 10, 2022 at 4:26 pm

In other words, it could become a safe haven for people like Jeffrey Epstein because in Illinois a minor doesn’t need a parent or guardian’s permission to have an abortion.

So what happens if a 15 years-old girl comes in with her rapist for an abortion. Are the alleged “healthcare providers” prohibited from reporting the statutory rape of this young girl to the authorities as required under the mandatory reporting law requirements or are they still required to do so.

And what happens if, and it does happen more often than abortionists admit, the minor girl suffers from serious side effects from the abortion (eg. perforated uterus, uncontrolled bleeding) that requires further surgical intervention. Is the minor able to give “Informed Consent” absent the legal parent or Guardian for those surgical interventions? Or does the parent/guardian have to give that consent.

Abortion on demand without parental/guardian consent. What a legal nightmare.

Now that men can get pregnant I can officially have an opinion on everything. I neverbwanted consequences free sex. Maybe a woman who would make love with me would want a life with me.
