The Republican National Committee has decided to listen to conservative voters for once and has voted to part ways with the Presidential Debate Commission.
For years, Republican voters have tuned in to a political debate only to see a liberal journalist as moderator, who often ends up arguing with the Republican candidate more than the Democrat on stage.
Anyone who has been following politics for some time remembers the dreadful CNBC debate of 2016, or the infamous debate moderated by Candy Crowley in 2012.
This decision by the RNC is long overdue but better late than never.

RNC votes to withdraw from Commission on Presidential DebatesThe Republican National Committee unanimously voted to withdraw from the Commission on Presidential Debates.The RNC clarified that it is not moving away from the presidential debate format, but is rather objecting to the CPD’s control over the process. The CPD has organized presidential and vice presidential debates for more than 30 years. RNC Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel made the announcement in a statement Thursday.”Debates are an important part of the democratic process, and the RNC is committed to free and fair debates,” McDaniel said in the statement. “The Commission on Presidential Debates is biased and has refused to enact simple and commonsense reforms to help ensure fair debates including hosting debates before voting begins and selecting moderators who have never worked for candidates on the debate stage.””Today, the RNC voted to withdraw from the biased CPD, and we are going to find newer, better debate platforms to ensure that future nominees are not forced to go through the biased CPD in order to make their case to the American people,” she added.
This is still a work in progress, as the GOP still intends to participate in debates, just not with moderators chosen by the CPD.

It remains to be seen what the RNC’s “freer and fairer” debates might look like outside of the CPD, or whether the Democrat nominees will participate in debates that aren’t part of what has been the usual path to the White House every four years.In any case, it makes sense for the RNC to withdraw from a process that’s proven unfair to Republican candidates organized by a group that’s becoming often indistinguishable from the rest of biased mainstream media. The fact that the CPD didn’t even feign a serious look at the issues raised by the RNC made it clear that reforming the current system wasn’t a workable option and going around existing institutions to force a change became the best course of action looking ahead to 2024.

This needed to happen, especially now as the media is no longer even trying to hide their political bias and activism.
