The mother says that greeting cards which may contain cash or gift cards are being targeted for theft and not reaching students.

Mother of Boston University student says mail from parents is being stolenThe mother of a Boston University student is calling for answers to her claim that mail being sent from parents to students on campus is being stolen.Ann Lauristen, of Long Island, New York, said she became suspicious after her daughter did not receive two separate greeting cards mailed to her by family last semester.Lauristen then discovered through Facebook that other parents of BU students were dealing with the same problem.”I’m absolutely sure it’s being stolen,” Lauristen said of the missing mail. “What all those things had in common was that they were greeting cards, and many of them had either cash or gift cards inside and it was a pretty startling pattern.”Lauristen then asked parents of Boston University students across the country via Facebook to send a card to their children living on campus directly from a U.S. post office, and not to enclose any cash or gift cards.The high school math teacher dubbed her effort the “2022 Boston University Great Greeting Card Mail Experiment.” She said that 18 of 44 cards mailed out by parents did not make it to the students.”When all was said and done, the results came in around 40% of the mail wasn’t arriving, and that was alarming,” Lauristen said.In a statement sent to NewsCenter 5, Boston University said the BU Police Department is currently working with the U.S. Postal Service and actively investigating the issue.
