Democrat Govs. Drop Mask Mandates as Biden Holds Tight to His Science
I never thought I’d hear NJ Gov. Murphy say this: “We are not going to manage COVID to zero. We have to learn how to live with COVID as we move from a pandemic to an endemic phase of this virus.”
It’s almost time for midterms! We all know what that means! Politicians are all of a sudden “evolving” when it comes to COVID-19.
All of a sudden masks don’t mean anything! All of a sudden we have to now learn how to live with COVID.
I got news for you guys. Oklahoma has been back to normal since last year. It’s nice going out and not having to wear a stupid mask. We have choices here in this great state.
I give Colorado Jared Polis a break. He’s a Democrat, but I’ve always respected him. From what I can tell and remember he’s not a hard leftist. He said no more to mask mandates.
Then Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Wolf decided school districts could choose their own mask mandates after the state’s Supreme Court voted down his statewide mandate.
Today saw a small wave of Democrats caving to factual science. New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy decided to end the mask mandates.
Delaware Gov. John Carney will end mask mandates on Friday. School mask mandates will cease in March.
So what good old Biden? Logic and facts tell us that children don’t need to be masked. Actually, you don’t need to wear a mask unless you have a cold. The mask is supposed to help you not spread a virus. That’s why before COVID doctor offices asked you to put on a mask if you had cold or flu symptoms.
Does Biden think holding tight to his “science” will help his beleaguered party in November? Jen Psaki said this at the press briefing:
PSAKI: “Well, the guidance is very clear, which is that we recommend masking in schools. That is the recommendation from the CDC. It is also true that at some point, when the science and that data warrants, of course, our hope is that that’s no longer the recommendation, and they are continually assessing that. But the guidance is very clear. It is also true that has always been up to local school districts to make determinations about how to implement these policies.”

I’m laughing so hard. I know the majority of those governors changed their minds because of midterms. I cannot imagine how frustrated they are with Biden right now.
The Democrats stand to lose a lot in November. The governors of these poor states loosening their grip on their citizens might help. The biggest help would come from Biden and D.C. I don’t see Nancy Pelosi going against the old man.

Florida is also in the top half of states of fully vaccinated populations, statistically equal with Pennsylvania, yet Pennsylvania has a worse death rate than Florida.

17 out of 50 in the context of one of the most poorly performing countries in the world. Have I defended the states you cite? No so stop deflecting. Top half of states, again thats pretty poor in a context of a low vaccination rate country.
So lets get to the nitty gritty – what is it that DeSantis has actually done to prevent covid deaths? Well the answer seems to be none, in fact you could argue given his actions he has lowered vaccination rates with his rhetoric – thats in contrast with other states with higher mortality rates who have attempted to deal with the pandemic. That is the issue a man who has played politics with peoples lives in order to appeal to a crowd who have bought into a narrative that has quite literally killed thousands of Americans.

I can see another reason why NJ and Delaware’s governors are doing this now: It may be early February, but tourist season is coming up and they want to make sure that the beaches in particular don’t lose out on business from people who are already making vacation plans and could instead choose to take themselves and their tourist dollars to Maryland or further south along the coast.

I think there is a point here with respect to the Omicron variant, its too transmissible for measures like cloth face masks
Omicron is exactly the same size as the original and all the other variants.

The same size? That’s not the issue at all. The issue is the transmissibility of the virus. Cloth face masks had a degree of efficacy with respect to the original virus which meant that they could be justified; given the huge increase in transmissibility in the omicron variant that efficacy is pretty low with respect to the omicron variant.

Yeah, it is the issue, NPC. The Omicron variant is no different physically than other variants. The difference is a mutation, not a change in size/method of transmission. It is the same size, is transmitted the same way. If Omicron ignores cloth masks then so did all the others.

Correct the change is in the form of a mutation which makes it more transmissible. The size of the virus is a subset of issues in relation to transmissibility.

There are numerous studies with varying degrees of efficacy attributed to cloth masks etc. The reality is the mask use is two fold firstly to attempt to minimize viral load being inhaled but primarily 2) mitigating viral load being coughed onto others (in context of social distancing). It is the later respect that cloth masks have found use. Clearly the setting is important so cloth masks in a medical setting would be inappropriate for prevention (1) with respect to health care staff.
