California Gov. Newsom Slammed for Going Maskless at NFL Playoff Game

Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti and San Francisco Mayor London Breed were also photographed maskless, despite rules.

After the weekend’s NFL playoff game between the Los Angeles Rams and the San Francisco 49ers, former Laker Earvin “Magic” Johnson took to Twitter and shared images of leading state politicians who have continuously pushed masked mandates.

These politicians included Gov. Gavin Newsom, Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti, and San Francisco Mayor London Breed.

Clearly, none of these politicians have learned from Newsom’s “French Laundry” incident about hypocritical behavior when such stringent rules are enacted and enforced. The pictures became the focus of backlash from angry Californians.

The post was met with swift backlash from commenters noting that California’s universal mask mandate requires residents to wear face coverings in all indoor public spaces and in common areas of outdoor “mega-events” with 5,000 or more people, regardless of vaccination status. Los Angeles County also requires all people attending large indoor and outdoor events to wear masks, except when eating and drinking.

Earlier this month, state officials extended the mask mandate through Feb. 15 amid surging cases of COVID-19.

Representatives for Garcetti and Newsom said they removed their masks only briefly to pose for the photos, but wore them the rest of the game.

At least three crowd shots captured by the L.A. Rams’ “FanCam” showed the mayor donning a face mask in the stands. Newsom was captured in one shot with a mask dangling from his ear, but two additional images showed him wearing his mask while seated at the game.

But in many ways, the damage was already done. County residents and anti-mask groups seized on the moment to decry the politicians for their apparent hypocrisy, noting that the photos appeared to violate not only some state and county rules but also the stadium’s own mask policy, which allows for masks to be removed only to actively eat and drink.

Quite frankly, I don’t recall the “photo op” exception to the masking policies that have been implemented.

And as the policies clearly haven’t stopped the spread of the virus in its very many variations, perhaps it would be wiser for them to nix the masks and focus on getting early treatment options to their citizens.

It hasn’t been about the virus for a long, long time. If it ever was.

Fay I told him that hair product is just as effective.

Haven’t we figured it out yet? The more votes you capture, the less likely you are to be infected.

Same goes for Likes, record albums sold, movie tickets as well.

But draconian masks will be strictly enforced on school children!

It’s all a scam; all a lie; all a grift.

“It’s all a scam; all a lie; all a grift”

No – it’s political and social control. It’s intended to see who will comply with a government edict, no matter how inane, senseless, and anti-science, who among us are willful followers and enforcers of arbitrary government power, who can be shamed and cowed to submit, and who will not, The later are then targeted for otherization, suppression, and, ultimately, elimination if they actively resist. It’s not more about masks than it was about wearing a Nazi party pin or an armband or snapping out the one-armed salute to the Brownshirts marching by in Germany in the mid-to-late 1930’s.

Outwardly show you compliance and support in public of the fascist state or suffer the consequences.

What they have learned is that our form of government won’t be as easy as they thought to take over. Most, though not all, Republican-led states have refused to go all-in on the pandemic fear porn, and the citizens of these states are free.

Thus the push to federalize everything from elections to a police force to . . . well, you name it. They want to weaken states’ rights, destroy the entire foundation of our Constitutional Republic because as long as there is a DeSantis or (to a lesser degree) an Abbott out there flouting their diktats, there’s trouble in commie paradise.

Yes, they are also learning that far too many Americans are complete morons, eager to be subjugated and ruled, but the bigger lesson is that there can be no central control, no true central dictatorial/totalitarian power as long as states have rights.

Yeah this two + year sociology experiment has definitely revealed where the fault lines are. Hopefully Nov midterms provide the final nail in the Covid mania coffin.

I sometimes wonder whether the socialists will issue an edict requiring all firearms to have a pink ribbon tied to the barrel, just to get a belly laugh as the panicked descendants of once-proud American patriots scurry to comply.

Marxist elite privilege and power.

What all Dems envy and aspire to. Absolute power and privilege.

While correlated with power and privilege, monetary wealth on its own pales in comparison.

Stalin and Mao were two of the wealthiest, most privileged, and most powerful people who ever lived.

Comrade Obama could only wistfully dream about it.

I’m willing to place a sports bet on the results: net damage to Newson – zero. It’s not as if he need the voters anyhow.

Wrong. I’ll bet that Fake Doctor Ferrer will be fired by the LA County Board of Supervisors the next time they meet. These dictators are looking for a scapegoat to throw under the bus and Ferrer is it. I believe Fauci is next.

How the hell they chose that sickly-looking non-physician to be the top medical person of one of the largest counties in the nation is amazing. She sure didn’t sleep her way to the top – unless Willie Brown has lost a good amount of his vision post-Kamala Harris days.

Ferrer is no doctor: she has a Phd in “social welfare”! She is paid $330,847.00 PER YEAR.

Ocam’s razor: she does what she is told, and being she has no medical skills, she likely has no hypocritic oath left to be bought off.

She was imported from Boston and brought along 8-9 of her lackeys who then usurped the LA County Health Department which had a very good record for managing the flu seasons. Pure politics. I don’t know whose idea it was to bring her in though. I’ll bet that would be a revealing story.

It looks like the masks and vaccines tyranny is just about at an end. I haven’t seen it but I am hearing this morning that Johns-Hopkins just released a study today declaring that the vaccines have had minimal effect, reiterating that masks don’t work and that there is zero evidence supporting lockdowns.

And thank you Magic for setting up these hypocrites on national television!

Mrs. Gavin should be way more worried about Mr. Gavin contracting AIDS than COVID.

Shouldn’t Magic Johnson be wearing an N95?

I get that his HIV is in remission, but if anyone should be wearing one it’s an HIV patient.

Once again, you are missing the point. Magic just exposed to the world what hypocrites these tyrants are. Why should HE be wearing a mask? Hello? This was no accident. He is a celebrity and doesn’t benefit by being photographed with these idiots.

EVERYONE IN THE STADIUM was supposed to be masked with rules about eating and drinking and more. And the people who make the rules were shown to be non-compliant. ON NATIONAL TELEVISION! Do you see anyone there wearing a mask?

    What was your question again?

Sorry but your sale revenue from selling masks is about to dry up.

healthguyfsu in reply to Pasadena Phil. | February 1, 2022 at 6:12 pm

No, I didn’t miss the point….there are multiple points here.

Anyone who is immunocompromised or could easily become immunocompromised such as a frickin HIV patient should be extra cautious. They are the few people who actually should be wearing N95 masks (not by mandate but by choice).

A member of my family through marriage deals with HIV every day. She got it from a husband who died of it because he was a firefighter and was exposed in the line of duty unknowingly. In fact, she didn’t even know she had it until he got sick.

The point of the story is that an HIV patient can slip into an immunodeficient state without knowing it. It pays to be extra cautious when living with HIV.

Masks. Don’t. Work. You keep missing that point. And besides, he is recovered from AIDS. And today, the latest Johns-Hopkins study specifically concluded that the “vaccines had minimal if any effect on Covid, that masks don’t work (and point out that everyone knew that) and that the lockdowns were a big mistake.

You really have to get over your fear of Covid. Especially for a guy who uses the moniker “HEALTHGUY”. We are rapidly learning that this has been a HOAX,

healthguyfsu in reply to Pasadena Phil. | February 1, 2022 at 11:47 pm

Oh my god, you are such an ignorant tool,

Don’t you have a fellow conservative to scold about their mocking of your great state of California???

N95 masks DO WORK when used properly….they are literally the only ones that DO WORK. He didn’t recover from AIDS, he never had AIDS. He has HIV and it is in remission. He is not cured. For someone that spouts off at the mouth, you have no idea what the hell you are talking about most of the time.

I’m also not scared of COVID and never said jack shit about lockdowns or vaccines either so get over it and STFU. Wanting it not to kill off the older, vulnerable folks that vote with me is not fear…it’s just intelligence. Try thinking with more than your limbic system sometime!

henrybowman in reply to healthguyfsu. | February 1, 2022 at 6:23 pm

In five years, we’ll all be immunocompromised.
        Well, except for the “purebloods.”
        Be seeing you.

healthguyfsu in reply to henrybowman. | February 1, 2022 at 11:51 pm

I’ll be fine considering I work in a busy area and do so in person. My place of business might as well be a hospital with all the germs around to immunize one’s self to…the immune system isn’t going to train itself!

The only people more immunized than us are nurses (and some doctors, but not the ones that spend very little time in patient contact).

Masks offer viable legal indemnity and little else. The governor holds the People in contempt.

The retracted article from a medical journal back in May 2020 said that masks reduced anxiety and that was about it. It is all about fear, anxiety, and getting the people to fight among themselves vs ganging up on the politicians.

    henrybowman in reply to n.n. | February 1, 2022 at 6:24 pm

Um… the people have bequeathed upon Newsom a teflon tuxedo.
And don’t think he doesn’t know it. This is the proof.

How much did he pay for his ticket, a ticket into a suite for an NFL playoff game ain’t cheap, Same applies to the two mayors.

This is akin to France just before the meeting of the Estates General in May of 1789. Prior to that meeting the “First Estate” [clergy, equivalent to media now] and the “Second Estate” [Nobles, equivalent to those in government now] were functionally above all laws. The “Third Estate” [everyone else] were subjects to all laws and had no real rights against the first two Estates.

I don’t think we will have something as silly as the “Oath of the Tennis Court”, but I do remember what transpired later.

Tested positive for wuflu last week. I’m unvaxxed, it felt like a chest cold. Quarantined for the 5 days. Feel basically the same as I did when the doc said to go for the test. Got a z pak and nasal spray. Took zinc, C, D3 and other stuff.
No fever, aches and no loss of smell or taste. So I guess I’ve gotten over it. Wasn’t bad.

The N95 mask will be ineffective against the COVID virus for two reasons, First, the “N” in N95 stands for “Not Resistant to Oil.” The COVID virus is fat encapsulated. Exposed to soap, it disintegrates. Fats are oils. The N95 works because its mesh has an electrostatic charge that attracts particles to attach to the mesh. Oils (fats) however, are not affected by this electrostatic charge, and so are not filtered by the mask. Second, even if the virus were attracted to the electrostatic charge, the virus is smaller than the mask can filter, that is, the virus is smaller than 3 microns.

Other problems with the mask are they must be properly fitted, and the average person will have no clue how to properly fit the mask to themselves or others. In addition, the electrostatic charge diminishes with the passage of particles, to include your breath. The more your breath, and the more dusts and other particulates there are the air, the faster the electrostatic charge and the filtering capacity of the charge dissipates.

For optimal results, the mask should be worn no more than four hours. It is basically useless after eight hours. It is a one-use device, and then should be discarded. I saw one post from a nurse who said he used his for about two weeks before he discarded them, because after about two weeks they became hard to breathe through. What an idiot.

But all that does not matter, because the oil encapsulated virus will not be attracted the filtration mesh. Again, the “N” stands for “Not resistant to oil.”.

Excellent summary and insight into N95. People need to understand the significance and value of the certification in order to properly orient their behavior and expectations.

Looks like most of the people sitting next to Newsom also weren’t wearing masks. Jessica Alba and the people near her weren’t either.

More Rules For Thee but Not For Me.
