Liberals Pounce on Snowstorm Traffic Disaster in Virginia to Blame Glenn Youngkin, Who Hasn’t Been Sworn in Yet

Hundreds of drivers were stranded on I-95 in Virginia this week due to a snowstorm and an ensuing traffic jam. Liberals on social media used the opportunity to bash Glenn Youngkin, but there’s one little problem. Youngkin isn’t the governor yet.
This was Ralph Northam’s problem.

Some social media accounts are blaming Gov.-elect Glenn Youngkin for the hundreds of drivers stuck on I-95 due to Monday’s snowstorm, though Youngkin has not been sworn into office.

I’m sorry, but Republican or Democrat, what is the governor going to do when you’ve got people on I-95 in a snowstorm when the roads couldn’t be treated beforehand because they were already wet and it was going to rain before the changeover to snow so any pre-treatment would have been worthless, and tractor-trailers are jackknifing and therefore blocking exit ramps? Ban driving entirely?
More to the point, what is the Governor of Virginia going to do?
Virginia people (most especially the drivers) get Anticipatory PTSD at the first snowflake.
And rightly so, because they can’t handle driving in snow to save their lives.
When I lived in Virginia, the Fairfax County school system once cancelled school on account of clouds (I’m not making a joke). Because they might have had snow in them.
(Full disclosure: I now reside in the Phoenix area, where drivers can’t handle rain. There are many excuses proposed for this. One is that the rain lifts years of baked-in oil to the surface of the roads. Another is that drivers discover that their windshield wipers that have fried for four years entirely unused in the desert sun fail to operate. A third is that the bald tires they’ve been running on just fine forever don’t actually work when wet. I lean towards the second explanation — this is what the trashcan outside our local auto parts store looks like on the first rainy day of the year.)
Not sure how long ago you lived in VA, but I remember when the brand-new Springfield Mixing Bowl interchange opened up in 2008 (I think it was 2008). What happened? Ice storm. Jim Gilmore was the governor at the time and his vehicle was stuck on one of the ramps for a couple hours.
Which was worse in his view? Stuck in the snow, or having to be near the peasantry?
As a Virginian, I can’t support your analysis. We have a ski area near by therefore we have learned to drive in the snow. BTW nobody wants to drive when it’s raining. No reason for that madness.
I recently posted a personal experience of my first year in beltway Virginia, when we drove 15 miles to our first office party, twice (the original one and the postponed one), in the snow (about an inch that was NBD to a New England native), only to find it “cancelled for snow” with no warning both times. I thought I did that here, but I can’t find it… in case I’m wrong, I won’t bore y’all with it again.

I’m born and raised VA but I’ve been around a lot.
We are middle ground for ice and snow.
NoVA is a freak circus when anything weather happens, Western part of the state is pretty good at handling it, and Tidewater where I live is in the middle of those extremes.
It’s very region specific. Also, we handle it wayyy better than the deep South like Floridians or Texans because the white stuff is like sunshine cancer. That said, we don’t handle it as well as West Virginia as a whole or the Northern and Ohio Valley states.
The whole entire area adjacent to the 495 Beltway is a freak circus, of epic proportions. That applies to every aspect of living in that area.
I was born and raised in that area, and I must have pissed someone off because I was stationed there four times after enlisting in the AF to get away from that freak show.
They panic at the hint of snow, with the COVID level “go buy milk and toilet paper until it’s all gone” hoarding that comes with it.
Don’t get stuck on the 101.
What does it matter? If the communists are going to play that game, we need to do it as well. Never get into a fistfight with a street brawler unless you’re willing to get down into the gutter with them because they’ll just low-blow and groin-shot you to death as you try to stay with the Marquess of Queensbury rules. So yeah, it’s Klanhood McBlackface’s fault because the stupid communists tried to blame it on a guy who hasn’t been sworn in yet.
Out west, say Nebraska, Wyoming, and Colorado, to name a few, there are gates on entrance ramps and they close the highway. Someone should have closed the highway. Once closed, vehicles can be turned around and sent back.

Well, the sitting Democrat governor could have closed I-95 to traffic before the storm hit knowing 8 or more inches of untreated snow would close it in any event. After the fact, he could have called out the National Guard which has lots of 4, 6, and 8 wheel-drive vehicles and even tracked vehicles to go rescue stranded people and house them in school gyms and such with hot food also prepared by the National Guard. He could have had his guard to erect large tents along I-95 which warm food and portable heaters at intervals so people who needed to could gather for warmth, lavatory facilities. In these stations he could have posted Guard medical personnel to respond to emergencies.
He could have foreseen various emergencies and worked with his Guard leadership to prepare contingency plans to respond to disasters before they strike and put them on alert when the weather warnings indicated a severe winter storm alert. In fact, FEMA gives the states grants explicitly for this purpose, and such plans would also speak to how to declare a disaster and get federal dollars and assistance if required, such as federal military vehicles, food and shelter from Ft. Belvoir, AP Hill, and Marine Corps Base Quantico.
I could go on.
What?! And bring out voters in the cold just to appease travelers passing through Virginia on their way someplace else?
Let them sit in the cold. No one asked them to drive before a pending snowstorm. What did they think, that they needed to return home from Christmas travel or something?

Several Amtrak trains were stuck for hours. Did Youngkin do that too? Maybe they were waiting for Build Back Better money or some trees fell across the tracks and caused a delay. Apparently Amtrak doesn’t carry chainsaws on trains anymore.

This is Northam’s outgoing FU to the voters of Virginia for voting the adults back into office.
Just recently John Kerry warned of the crippling consequences of global warming. “Ninety-seven percent of the world’s scientists tell us this is urgent,” he said.
Ninety-seven percent of the people stuck on the freeway in Virginia were no doubt prepared for global warming, but very few were prepared for snow on the road in the middle of the winter.
Unfortunately this is going to stick with Youngkin, governor or not. Stupid voters are going to “remember” how he messed up in the snowstorm and hold it against him. It won’t hurt him at the next election because he won’t be able to run anyway, but if he tries again in 2029 there will be people who’ll vote against him because of this.
They’re just mad at Youngkin because they can’t date him.
