Hundreds of School Districts Now Screening Teacher Applicants Based on Wokeness

“want to ensure that, eventually, all teachers will present only approved ideas and counter any wrongthink children are taught at home”

This is a roundabout way to screen out any political undesirables. In other words, discrimination.

The Federalist reports:

500 School Districts Publicly Declare Only Woke Teachers Need Apply

The woke-o-meter in public schools is about to ramp up. Parents who think they don’t have time to homeschool may soon realize that, compared to the effort involved in monitoring and countering the nonsense from leftist classrooms, homeschooling is the relaxing alternative.

Not all teachers buy into the leftist narrative of race-obsessed anti-Americanism. But leftist K-12 administrators want to ensure that, eventually, all teachers will present only approved ideas and counter any wrongthink children are taught at home. Many of these educrats are now embracing a technological fix.

Trade publication Education Week recently reported that about 500 school districts around the country are rating teacher applicants according to their “cultural competency,” another code for “wokeness.” Many of these districts are contracting with a teacher-hiring company called Nimble, which uses artificial intelligence to examine applications and interview answers to determine which candidates harbor the correct political and cultural attitudes.

A central concern of Nimble and its leftist clients is mindsets about race. The goal is to hire only teachers who are “anti-racist” activists, who will reject equal treatment of all students in favor of discrimination against some (whites) for the supposed benefit of others (racial minorities). Note that under this rubric, Asian students, who as a group work hard and consequently excel, don’t qualify as an oppressed racial minority.

“Now that we’ve become a little more aware of the concept of anti-racism and maybe a little more woke as a culture, I do think that districts have started to emphasize these questions a little bit more,” Nimble CEO Lauren Dachille told EdWeek. “They might be more common, they might be more explicit.”

I’m SO grateful we homeschooled.
When I read articles such as this one, I fear we are living in the Tower of Babel. There is no connection to reality.

I looked at admissions requirements at ed schools more than 20 years ago. I noticed then that they all pushed hard on getting the “right” kind of people. They tried to be a little vague about what “the right kind” meant but made it very clear that they meant leftists.

Fast forward to today and now they’re teaching the people who they previously selected for suggestibility that anti-white bigotry is required.

Honestly, I’m really only surprised that it’s taken this long.

The teachers are part of the problem. They teach Marxist inspired Critical Race Theory because they believe it is true and they want to spread that news.
In 2011 I was a graduate student ina college of education at a Big 10 university. I’m an older, White male. One assignment was to make a poster. My poster received a 4.95 out of 5, which lowered my course grade to B+ instead of A-. Schools weed out those deemed problematic.

Decriminalize school truancy.
Allow GED testing for any student of any age, and award high school diploma. Let student move on with their life.

This trend toward choosing teachers according to their politics is firmly established in colleges as well. Many colleges require applicants to submit a “Diversity Statement”, which gives them a woke score.

Last year at Berkeley, 76% of life sciences applicants were eliminated by DEI bureaucrats based on their “diversity statements” without even reading their research accomplishments.

I guess they’re eliminating the people sharp enough to see through the current research and the grant proposals.

I have mentioned this idea in other threads: if you live in an area that allows citizen draw up propositions for the ballot, start disbanding school districts. Close the bad machinery down

Unfortunately, many of the later states to join the union did so during the Progressive era, and the federal government got to dictate a lot of what their constitutions “had to” contain, or else: No Statehood Soup For You!

Here in Arizona, our constitution requires, “The legislature shall provide for a system of common schools by which a free school shall be established and maintained in every school district for at least six months in each year, which school shall be open to all pupils between the ages of six and twenty-one years;” also, that “The university and all other state educational institutions shall be open to students of both sexes, and the instruction furnished shall be as nearly free as possible.”

    Huge, huge mistake.

THIS is the BEST way to make schools MORE OF A COMMUNISTIC JOKE! JUST USLESS BOVINNE SCAT!

This is the reason that they also try to eliminate any objective measure of academic achievement, lest it reveal the abject failures that these policies produce.
