Despite the shellacking they just took in the Virginia gubernatorial race, Democrats seem pretty high (wink, wink) on the prospect of electing more of their own in 2022. Case in point: Stacey Abrams, who has infamously and hilariously refused to concede her 2018 loss to Republican Brian Kemp, is running for governor of Georgia once again. Presumably, it will be a Kemp vs. Abrams rematch.
Nearly a year after her defeat, Abrams issued a non-concession concession:
“I acknowledge that former Secretary of State Brian Kemp will be certified as the victor in the 2018 gubernatorial election, but to watch an elected official who claims to represent the people in this state baldly pin his hopes for election on the suppression of the people’s democratic right to vote has been truly appalling,” Abrams said.“So, let’s be clear. This is not a speech of concession. Because concession means to acknowledge an action is right, true or proper. As a woman of conscience and faith, I cannot concede that. Today’s announcement that she’s running again perplexed some on Twitter.
When you’re Stacey Abrams, you can do anything you want!
Democrats won both 0f Georgia’s Senate seats in 2020, so they may be feeling the governor’s mansion is theirs for the taking. But Abrams is unpredictable, sometimes appears unstable, and is not likely to heed any lessons from Virginia, where a parent-led revolution sent a clear message that politicians cannot use children as pawns.
