Outgoing NYC Mayor Bill de Blasio went full fascist on MSNBC on Monday morning.
De Blasio bragged that the city will have the nation’s first COVID vaccine mandate for private businesses. We all know that an elected official should totally boast about forcing private businesses to do something!
After all, NYC has a whopping seven cases of the new Omicron variant. SEVEN CASES, Y’ALL. Must instill draconian measures:
DE BLASIO: “Yeah. Mika, look, we just talked about an attack on democracy. We’re under attack a different way right now from the Coronavirus. And we’ve got Omicron as a new factor. We’ve got the colder whether which is going to really create additional challenges with the Delta variant. We’ve got holiday gatherings. We in New York City have decided to use a preemptive strike to really do something bold to stop the further growth of Covid and the dangers it’s causing to all of us. So, as of today, there’s a first in the nation measure. Our health commissioner will announce a vaccine mandate for private sector employers across the board. All private sector employers in New York City will be covered by this vaccine mandate as of December 27th. We’ll have some other measures as well to focus on maximizing vaccination quickly to get ahead of Omicron and the other challenges we’re facing right now with Covid.”

Am I missing something here? I thought Omicron only gave you very mild illness, not much worse than a cold (except for possibly compromised people)? Shouldn’t we want everyone to catch it and build up immunity that might be helpful against a more deadly variant?
I would like to know if people getting infected after being vaccinated get the extra immunity benefit. I don’t hear anything about this. There’s talk that omicron is mild because people are vaccinated, but people are still dying of delta. But not omicron.
Everyone is hoping that omicron will be the mild version that works like a vaccine. Like cowpox.
While we are still talking about this, the next variant (which will gets its name after skipping several more letters of the Greek alphabet) is ready to pounce. But before it does it must check with Fauci to find out how severe it will be.

Why should employers in financial services stay? They can run a bond desk and brokerage from Miami just as easily. Not to mention better weather and lower taxes.

The best vaccine out there is Omicron. It provides stronger protection, it provides longer lasting protection (likely a lifetime), and, by virtue of training the immune system to recognize more than just a single (spike protein) antigen, it provides protection against a wider range of future variants as well.
And the side effects (fatigue for a day or three) are far less than the usual thrombosis, myocarditis etc that the existing vaxxes offer.
