California Gov. Gavin Newsom Makes Sad, Laughable Attempt to Stop Omicron via Mask Mandate

Meanwhile, Colorado Gov. Jared Polis declares COVID-19 emergency ‘over’ despite Omicron.

Following the sad example of New York Governor Kathy Hochul, California Governor Gavin News is reinstating a statewide mask mandate to try to stave off a surge of COVID-19 cases.

The order goes into effect Wednesday and is applicable to all public spaces.

The move comes as coronavirus case rates in California have risen by almost 50% in the last 2½ weeks, and COVID-19 hospitalizations are up by nearly 15%. County health officials across the state say they suspect they may be seeing the start of a winter jump in coronavirus cases.

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention considers California as having a high level of transmission of the coronavirus, the worst tier in the federal agency’s four-tier scale.

“This is a critical time where we have a tool that we know has worked and can work,” said Dr. Mark Ghaly, the California health and human services secretary, on Monday. “We are proactively putting this tool of universal indoor masking in public settings in place to ensure we get through a time of joy and hope — without a darker cloud of concern and despair.”

Unfortunately, San Diegans who have been enjoying the fresh air will have to go digging for their old masks.

Los Angeles and Ventura counties, as well as most of the San Francisco Bay Area, already have their own indoor mask mandates, which were implemented in the summer, but the new order will affect nearly half the state’s population, including San Diego and Orange counties, the Inland Empire, the Central Valley and rural Northern California.

“This increase in case rates is not experienced equally across the state,” Ghaly said. “We have some counties that remain very low — many of the Bay Area counties, L.A. But others are quite high, and we see this in greater percentage in communities and counties where vaccine rates are low.”

The state is also tightening restrictions on large public invents indoors, and toying with a form of travel-test requirement.

Any person attending an event with more than 1,000 people who cannot show proof of vaccination must now show proof of an antigen test within the previous 24 hours or a PCR test within the past 48 hours.

The current rule allows any test within the previous 72 hours.

Ghaly said that window is being tightened because more tests are available and they have faster turnaround times for results.

In addition, the state is recommending, but not requiring, that travelers who enter or return to California get tested within three to five days of their arrival.

I suspect the mandate will be as full of fail as the vaccine drive.

Lest you think that all Democratic governors are jumping on the Omicron Panic Train, I would like to note that Colorado Governor Jared Polis has sensibly declared the coronavirus emergency over.

Colorado Gov. Jared Polis, a Democrat, declared in a new interview that the COVID-19 emergency is “over” and that he won’t be implementing another statewide mask mandate in response to the spread of the Omicron variant, explaining that if people aren’t vaccinated at this point, it’s their “own darn fault” if they get sick.

“Everybody had more than enough opportunity to get vaccinated,” Polis told Colorado Public Radio on Friday. “Hopefully it’s been at your pharmacy, your grocery store, a bus near you, [or at] big events. At this point, if you haven’t been vaccinated, it’s really your own darn fault.”

“Those who get sick, it’s almost entirely their own darn fault,” he continued. “I don’t want to say that nobody [will get the virus if they’re] vaccinated, but it’s very rare. Just to put it in perspective, of the about 1,400 people hospitalized, less than 200 (or 16 percent) are vaccinated. And many of them are older or have other conditions. Eighty-four percent of the people in our hospitals are unvaccinated, and they absolutely had every chance to get vaccinated.”

Given the usual lunacy we have come to expect from the Democrats, this is a pleasant surprise. I am looking forward to comparing and contrasting the approaches in about 6 months.

CDC only 21% of the current variants cases are un vaxxed. Meaning the carries are the jabbed knee takers.

Experts say that washing hands Is way more Important than wearing masks when trying to stop the spread of Coronavirus, Perhaps Calif needs a hand-washing mandate.

Wash with soap to deconstruct the virus before it violates your bodily autonomy. Fecal spread (a la HIV/AIDS) is a primary transmission path for this virus, opportunistic bacteria, and diverse pathogenic substances. The masks have limited effect to mitigate droplet spread when following strict protocol, and have been scientifically proven to increase infections in regular and general (i.e. public) use. They should have advised vulnerable people… persons to wear respirators, and warned that there is no source control.

n.n. knows more about what is going on than Fauci.

Wait. Are you saying it may not be the best idea to force people to strap warm, moist cloth that essentially acts like a personal petri dish, to their mouth and nose area?

      Huh. Whodathunkit.

He’s Kamala Harris without the kneepads.

He must think he’s King Canute

This may very well be the last straw. If enough people simply ignore this mandate, it will either be retracted or the shit will really start flying. I’m talking businesses and individuals ignoring this en masse. How are they going to enforce it? Revoke everyone’s licenses? So business go on without them. Then what? Chaos.

I unfortunately live in Cali.

Nobody gives a fuck what moron says about mask mandates. Businesses make weak requests that you wear a mask but none of them care. 3/4 of people already have no masks and blatantly ignore signs demanding masks – and in fact an awful lot of people openly refuse to patronize businesses that try to actually enforce masking.

At work I wear a ‘mask’ that is a neck gaitor so thin I can literally put it over my eyes and see where I am going.

Everybody except the insane far left at this point knows that masks are bullshit.

“You are a sad, strange little man — and you have my pity.”

So he’s going to stop Omicron just like he did with the first, how many, variants?

These mask-crazy politicians need to be forced to answer two questions:

1. At what point (numbers of hospitalizations and deaths, not just mild cases) can people stop wearing masks? And they must be forced to carry through, and not keep moving the goalposts.

2. This Chinese coronavirus, like the Spanish flu and the Russian flu, will now circulate throughout the world for at least the next century, with a couple of new variants every year. So, even if masks were perfect (which they are not), what will happen when everyone stops wearing the masks? I believe they will all get the bug; so wearing the masks just delays the inevitable.

You’re correct. If nobody wore masks, everyone would eventually “get the bug.” This, coupled with the omicron variant, is a great fear of the authorities. The last thing they want to see is a benign variant that spreads rapidly, and confers immunity on those exposed. I’m sure they were rather hoping for a variant as rapacious as Ebola. But no such luck.

If you live in a blue State governed by the Karenish, finger wagging, scaredy cat type of politician who lust for control then you ate likely stuck until the midterms at least, probably until Jan 2025 and a r POTUS. That’s the federal level pressures and inducements for continued Rona theatre. If a red wave won’t turn out d/prog from your State House and Gov mansion that’s the best you can hope for.

In the interim the differences in Covid policy approach and the impact on individual liberty in Red v Blue States and areas within States will continue to be underlined. At some point anyone who is able to be convinced that lock downs and an authoritarian approach is counterproductive will be convinced. Hopefully that puts the authoritarians in the roll of a minority of bitter Covid clingers who are out voted on election day.

Like a broken record I’ll say it again – “tough shit”.
Move out of California it’s a lost cause. You couldn’t even recall your lawless governor.
They’re never going to give up the sanctioned vote theft which is so ingrained into their elections.
Leave and take your conservative values to Nevada or Arizona and try to make them red as possible.

Weeping Walensky herself declared that the “vaccines” are not effective in stopping transmission of WuFlu nor it’s variants”

No one is even claiming that the masks are effective due to countless studies that have proven this. Masks are only effective for causing illness both emotionally and physically. There are school children who are already becoming emotionally and socially stunted for being blocked from experiencing social interaction without ever seeing the faces of others. Yet the evil tyrants persist with their evil mandates. And we obey.

Stop obeying! How hard is it for us to simply stop wearing our masks! Let’s force them to the next level. Let’s see what the plan is. If they are going to start forcing us into FEMA camps, let it begin ASAP so enough frogs jump out of the boiling cauldron.

Do we deserve to be free or not?

Nothing about it at that link…

Not about the vaccines but the part about fighting evil and, ahem, the Republicans…. We can’t even get in the game in small steps by throwing the masks away. But there IS a path to follow and Meadows is laying it out. Team Trump, the name that shall not be mentioned here. We don’t deserve to win.

I wouldn’t be so quick to assign wisdom to Mr. Polis. He may have just given up because none of his authoritarian edicts have worked, so now he is taking the high road with person responsibility. Worse, he didn’t restrict the counties from acting, so a number of counties in Colorado have gone back to mask mandates. And may I add that at least one of these counties, with a mask mandate, has given businesses an option for exemption from masks if all the employees are vaxxed and if they are willing to become the enforcement mechanism for making sure only those who are vaxxed may enter. So this is what we have come to: the state doesn’t have to make mandates if it can get businesses to do the dirty work for them.

An article about the failure of masks to prevent COVID spread, with many graphs showing the futility of mask-wearing, as a single example of the overall failure/inability to contain an airborne virus. It’s quite astonishing that they continue to reflexively turn to “solutions” that have repeatedly failed. Newsom and his ilk are not leaders, they’re one-trick ponies, but with less intelligence.
