Anti-Semitism A Problem Among College Diversity Administrators

“Our study reveals that many DEI staff are far more interested in Israel than China, and are more consistently critical of the Jewish state than of a repressive communist regime.”

This has come up a few times in the news recently. It’s obviously a real issue.

Jay P. Greene and Jay Paul write at Newsweek:

Antisemitism is a Growing Problem Among College Diversity Administrators

American universities are becoming hotbeds of antisemitism. This is happening, in part, because of the expanding number and power of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) offices that, rather than restraining hostility toward Jews, actually foment it. Their focus on political activism against the Jewish state of Israel clearly crosses the line from legitimate concern for human rights into outright antisemitism, providing encouragement and assistance to others on campus to do the same.

To gauge the extent of university DEI administrators’ antipathy toward Israel, we examined public social media posts by hundreds of DEI staff. We identified Twitter accounts for almost 800 such administrators in the “Power 5” athletic conferences, and searched those Twitter feeds for all tweets, retweets and likes that mention Israel or, for comparison purposes, China. Our method captures only a portion of DEI staff activity; nevertheless, it can shine a spotlight on what many DEI staff believe and are willing to promote.

Our study reveals that many DEI staff are far more interested in Israel than China, and are more consistently critical of the Jewish state than of a repressive communist regime. In total, we found three times as many tweets about Israel as about China. Of the 633 tweets regarding Israel, 605 (96 percent) were critical. Of the 216 tweets regarding China, 133 (62 percent) expressed favorable sentiment.

The comparative preoccupation with Israel is noteworthy, since China has figured far more prominently in the news. And, given the reasons China has been in the news—its role in the origin and spread of the coronavirus pandemic, its brutal crackdown on pro-democracy forces in Hong Kong, its mass imprisonment and mistreatment of the Muslim Uyghur population, its increasing belligerence toward with Taiwan and other countries in the Pacific Rim and its severe internal repression of political dissent and private corporations—it certainly seems that anyone genuinely interested in human rights would have many more reasons to pay attention to China than to Israel.

Comments

When universities schedule graduations on Jewish holidays and refuse to reschedule and issue Covid testing mandates that do not excuse religious observance of the Sabbath, those facts and the anti Semitism documented in DIE staff are indicative that anti Semitism is not just limited to far left student groups and faculty members who are anti Israel and against any Jewish presence on campus such as Hillel and Chabad ,and that DEI staff are actively anti Semitic as well it is clear that anti Semitism is rearing its head on college campuses.

Why piddle around? Call it DIE, not DEI, because that is what they have planned for the country.

Leftists are antisemitic almost by definition. They practice de facto racism with their soft bigotry of low expectation programs for blacks like “Affirmative action” and softened academic standards (see Oregon).

    Correct.

Hatred of all things Jewish runs through and through the core of Leftism like “Blackpool” through a stick of seaside rock.

It is an article of faith to the Left that Jews are irreconcilably evil.

A part of being “woke” is hating Israel, agitating for BDS, and accusing Israeli Jews of “apartheid.” Most American Jews are Democrats and are too “progressive” to oppose these left-wing lies.

DEI administrators are the wokest of the woke. They are supposed to be the White Rabbit leading everyone else down the woke rabbit hole. In most cases, they are hired merely for being the right race and having some kind of degree.

DEI drones have to make it look like they are doing something to earn their pay, but they are not qualified to teach courses. So they have to do the only thing they know how: to agitate. They only agitate against safe targets that no one will have the courage to defend: White people, males, police, the military, and the nation of Israel.

Unless more people get the cojones to defend these common targets, the woke left-wing will continue to hate them and attack them. It would be most helpful if left-wing Jews would wake up and realize that attacks against the nation of Israel are attacks against all Jews.

Is American society slowly changing as creeping, undiluted Islamism takes hold unopposed? Are the ideas permeating the country not broadly reminiscent of what transpired in highly civilized Germany in the 1930s?
