Rampant Crime in Seattle Forces County Govt To Provide Security Escorts For Employees

In the far left paradise of Seattle, crime has gotten so bad that some public emplyoyees now need security to escort them to and from work. Maybe defunding the police wasn’t such a great idea after all.

It’s almost like progressive policies don’t work.

Jason Rantz reports at KTTH Radio:

Rantz: Seattle is so dangerous, King County security will escort employees to bus, train, ferryDowntown Seattle and Pioneer Square have become so dangerous that the King County government will now have security escort employees to the bus, train, or ferry for their commute home. The county’s Walking Bus pilot program was announced internally to employees on Wednesday at the downtown campus, located at the King County Courthouse. Two security escorts will walk employees from the courthouse to the King Street Station and the Colman Dock. Additionally, they will escort staff for several blocks to get to their cars or bus stops safely…The pilot program launches on Nov. 15 and will offer two dedicated security escorts for the group walks. They meet at the 4th Avenue entrance of the King County Courthouse. The 3rd Avenue entrance was shuttered because the homeless living on the street kept attacking or harassing workers and building visitors. An escorted group will walk to the King Street Station once each afternoon. The escort groups to the Colman Dock are offered four departure options.

What is the city doing? Making more cuts to the police department, of course.

Thieves have absolutely no fear.

The current mayor, who is not running for reelection, seems to have finally figured out that this is a major problem, but is being blocked by the far left city council.

FOX News reported:

The current mayor, Jenny Durkan, who did not seek reelection following criticism over her handling of protest autonomous zone dubbed CHOP/CHAZ, also slammed the city council, arguing that its previous promise to defund Seattle police by 50%, its treatment of former Seattle Police Chief Carmen Best and its previous layoff budget has led to an exodus of 325 Seattle police officers over the past two years. She said the council had rejected multiple plans proposed by her and Seattle Police interim Chief Adrian Z. Diaz to address police hiring and retention shortfalls.”Just yesterday, another Councilmember proposed blocking my emergency hiring proposal that has already generated a tenfold increase in applications to 911 dispatch positions in Seattle,” Durkan said. “Continued cuts to SPD and underfunding the 911 center are not a plan for true public safety.”

Why do law abiding taxpayers in Seattle put up with this? Why do they even pay taxes? It’s certainly not to maintain law and order.
