The gubernatorial election in Virginia is just three weeks away on November 2, and the race is tight. Democrat Terry McAuliffe, who held the position previously from 2014 to 2018, has a slight edge over Republican newcomer Glenn Youngkin.
The race has attracted a lot of national attention due to the battle over the direction of public schools in Loudoun County.
Terry McAuliffe sparked controversy in September by saying at a debate that he doesn’t think parents should have a say in what schools teach to their children. In August, McAuliffe was under fire for saying that life should be made difficult for the unvaccinated. Youngkin has used these moments to his advantage, presenting himself as the candidate who favors choices for individuals and parents.
Both sides see this as a high-stakes race and it’s as close as can be.

Terry McAuliffe – who’s running for his old job – holds a slight, single-digit edge over Republican nominee Glenn Youngkin in a state that President Biden won by 10 points in last year’s election and where Republicans haven’t won a statewide contest in a dozen years.The Cook Report, a top nonpartisan political handicapper, three weeks ago shifted its ranking of the race from “lean Democratic” to “toss up.”The margin-of-error race in Virginia – a one-time key battleground but still competitive state which is seen as a key bellwether ahead of the 2022 midterm elections – has national Democrats on edge as they defend their razor-thin majorities in the House of Representatives and Senate in next year’s contests.”Folks, the Virginia Governor’s race is a big deal not just for the Commonwealth but for our country,” Biden wrote to supporters in a fundraising email. And McAuliffe asked in a fundraising email last week, “Are we blowing this?”
McAuliffe has repeatedly accused Youngkin of not accepting the outcome of the 2020 election, but has been caught refusing to accept the outcome of the 2000 election.
McAuliffe has also been under fire over Critical Race Theory in schools.
McAuliffe must be concerned about his chances because he just announced that Jill Biden, Obama and Stacy Abrams will be campaigning for him in Virginia in the coming days.
Joe Biden will not be campaigning for McAuliffe and I think I know why.
