GOP Calls for Investigation of Fauci and His Resignation after NIH Admits Funding Gain-of-Function Research

GOP Calls for Investigation of Fauci and His Resignation after NIH Admits Funding Gain-of-Function Research

Let’s take a moment to remember the journalists who deemed “gain of function” funding as “misinformation”

The National Institutes of Health has finally admitted to something many of us Legal Insurrection readers have known for some item.

In a stunning letter, the agency has owned up to funding gain-of-function research on bat coronaviruses at China’s Wuhan lab — despite Dr. Anthony Fauci repeatedly insisting to Congress that no such thing happened.

In a letter to Rep. James Comer (R-Ky.) on Wednesday, a top NIH official blamed EcoHealth Alliance — the New York City-based nonprofit that has funneled US funds to the Wuhan lab — for not being transparent about the work it was doing.

NIH’s principal deputy director, Lawrence A. Tabak, wrote in the letter that EcoHealth’s “limited experiment” tested whether “spike proteins from naturally occurring bat coronaviruses circulating in China were capable of binding to the human ACE2 receptor in a mouse model.”

The lab mice infected with the modified virus “became sicker” than those that were given the unmodified virus, according to Tabak.

“As sometimes occurs in science, this was an unexpected result of the research, as opposed to something that the researchers set out to do,” Tabak said.

I would argue that slapping together bits of virus parts designed to attach readily to human lungs onto pathogens known to cause respiratory disease would lead to a poor result. Clearly, I still practice traditional science, rather than the new science.

As a reminder, “gain-of-function research” is medical research that genetically alters an organism in a way that may enhance the specific biological functions. For example, altering the disease outcome, transmissibility, or the types of hosts that a microorganism can infect.

In response to this revelation, Republicans are now calling for an investigation and the resignation of Dr. Anthony Fauci, who denied the NIH as ever funding this research.

The controversial research involves artificially engineering an animal virus in a laboratory setting to further examine how it becomes more easily transmissible and deadly to humans – a measure that Fauci told lawmakers was not utilized by the NIH.

“For the past year and a half, critical decisions for the whole country have hinged off of Dr. Fauci’s advice and decrees. Two presidents have used his advice as the basis for our nation’s response to COVID-19,” California Republican Rep. Doug LaMalfa said in a statement to Fox News Friday.

“Yet here we have incontrovertible proof that he has been intentionally lying to Congress,” he added. “Dr. Fauci must resign and should face prosecution for perjury.”

LaMalfa’s comments echo sentiments by at least 14 other House Republicans who called on Fauci to resign this summer following reports that the NIH funded controversial animal testing in foreign countries.

Tennessee Republican Sen. Bill Hagerty took to Twitter to voice his opposition and said, “He should resign immediately.”

Meanwhile, it might be a good time to take a trip down memory lane and recall all the media types who said that asserting there was “gain of function” funding was #FakeNews and “misinformation. Here are just a few, as a sample.

CNN’s Brianna Keilar, May 2021: “Nothing brings out Senator Paul’s propensity to act like an ass like a congressional appearance by Fauci, and that is really saying something. . . . Like Elvis’s Kentucky rain, Rand Paul’s COVID BS keeps pouring down, and it’s enough to fill the swimming pool in the Senate gym.”

Washington Post fact-checker Glenn Kessler, May 2021: “We wavered between Two and Three Pinocchios, but decided on Two, because there still are enough questions about the work at the Wuhan lab to warrant further scrutiny, even if the NIH connection to possible gain-of-function research appears so far to be elusive.” Kessler went on to allege that Paul, not Fauci, had created a “false, misleading impression by playing with words and using legalistic language that means little to ordinary people.”

CNN’s Jake Tapper, July 2021: “I want to start with another kind of misinformation, the constant MAGA media and Republican lawmakers’ attacks on health experts, especially Dr. Anthony Fauci. Today on Capitol Hill, Fauci was confronted with an accusation basically from Kentucky Republican Senator Rand Paul. . . . I don’t want to get into the details of what Senator Paul was attacking there and all that, but just the bigger picture here as a health professional we keep seeing this. Trump allies in Congress and governors’ offices and the media trying to make Fauci a COVID boogeyman. This is a 40-year public servant, he received the presidential medal of freedom . . .”

It will be interesting to see of Fauci makes the rounds on the news shows this weekend . . . and, if he does, whether he is asked about the NIH letter.

A trial for crimes against humanity I guess is out of the question so a resignation might be the best we can get.
A admission of crimes against humanity would be nice even if it lead to no jail time.

“Republicans are now calling for an investigation and the resignation of Dr. Anthony Fauci”

Typical Republicans. Calling for “resignation” when they should be calling for “immediate termination and trial for international terrorism.”

    investigation and resignation = coverup

Don’t expect anything from McConnell or McCarthy.

McConnell is a compromised rat, and McCarthy is a milquetoast.

Which you know because you take some leftist mainstream media who hate McConnell, because McConnell stopped everything Obama wanted in legislation and judges (including Merrick Garland) and because he passed 100% of legislation Trump sought into law….

Stop performing operation demoralize there are enough Democrats doing that.

The MSM and tech censors need to admit their mistakes here and elsewhere regarding a controversial question where the answers are not definitive. If the rule is suspension of accounts when ‘misinformation’ is posted then a retroactive suspension is warranted. Especially when the issue isn’t actually definitive but simply cuts against a preferred narrative.

Not likely but the daily drip of information which renders previous statements inoperative is mounting and more people notice. Folks are realizing the extent of the propaganda in the MSM/Official/Party line narrative.

Consequences for Fauci? Not till post midterms and doubtful then, though the d/prog might offer him up as a sacrifice to try and stave off electoral disaster in 2024. Again not likely but possible.

Nothing will happen to him, even if R’s take over Congress next year. Look at what happened to McCabe… they just reinstated that prick’s pension, etc.

McCabe, Fauci and their ilk are nothing but tools… cudgels that the progs use to bash their political enemies over the head. The tools will always be rewarded by the left.

“The MSM and tech censors need to admit their mistakes…”

    No thanks. No apologies, either.

Heads must roll and malignant government agencies must be destroyed.

Dr Fauci goes down all of the Covid scam might go with him so the Democrats, Marxists and their Propaganda Ministry will protect him to the end.

Well deserved. It’s bad enough the Chinese hide information.

Nothing will happen.
Nothing ever does.

According to former British spy, Hollister Irons, Fauci is a Chinese asset. There is a shocking video of a golden shower at the Wuhan Hilton during a seminar visit on gain of function research.

Can anyone explain to me a valid purpose for ‘Gain of Function’ research as carried out at the Wuhan lab on Fauci’s watch other than for the purpose of biological warfare?

“They” keep saying that GOF research is necessary because it allows us to study the behavior of a virus and stay one step ahead of it. It’s supposed to aid in coming up with vaccines for emerging viruses. So far, GOF research has saved ZERO lives. It’s just a way to fund the curiosity of scientists who aren’t mature enough to know when to back off and leave something alone.

henrybowman in reply to Sanddog. | October 23, 2021 at 8:36 pm

Saved zero lives? Now, compare to how many people they have just KILLED with it.

gibbie in reply to Sanddog. | October 24, 2021 at 12:11 am

Nobody asks “them” why “they” thought it was a good idea to fund it in a lab which was not designed for the proper level of safety in a country which is trying to destroy us.

Ben Kent in reply to gibbie. | October 25, 2021 at 10:15 am

They did it overseas to circumvent US Laws which prohibited such research. They did not care about the security level of the lab – just cared about getting their Frankenstein research done.

Fauci’s self-serving blocking of inquiry into the origins of the Virus is CRIMINAL. He was covering up his own culpability in the deaths of millions. When will he be arrested and charged ?

Ben Kent in reply to Ben Kent. | October 25, 2021 at 10:19 am

Fauci started this Frankenstein-like research with viruses under Obama. Supposedly with the intention of finding a way to prevent a pandemic. But they ended up causing one due to insufficient safety measures. Question – did Obama know that Fauci was funding “gain of function” research in China ?

Republicans “calling” for an investigation is like whistling after a stray dog that you know won’t come when you call it anyway.

Anything done by a Communist government has no good purpose.

Fauci should be fired and prosecuted for perjury

Fauci is protected. The teflon Doc. I think he should marry Chris Wallace and have twins.. like Pete and Chastin. That would be just as likely as him actually facing any kind of justice. Admittedly, I am having a hard time believing that we still have a nation of laws. A really hard time.

Swell. More GOP Failure Theater (TM). Failing to repeal Obamacare and rubber-stamping the fraudulent 2020 election pretty much finished the GOP as an opposition party. The chance of a Republican Congress* investigating Fauchi is exactly zero – and all adults know it.

* – the only way Republicans take the House and/or Senate is if they out-cheat the Communists (good luck with that!). The Franz von Papen Republicans’ willingness to collude with the Communist Party will cause the country to pay a steep price. Stolen elections have consequences that can never be undone.

Fauci has likely killed more than a million people with his fake disparagement of therapeutics. Perhaps more.

Let’s add Beagles being eaten alive by sand fleas. Won’t fire him because of GOF, maybe they will because of animal torture.

theduchessofkitty | October 24, 2021 at 12:25 pm

This one will have an effect. You should have seen the disgusted grimace after I told my daughters about this. Put the face of Fauci next to the words “harming puppies” will make many a “bleeding heart” mad as hell.

He’s in trouble. Thank Heavens!
